I arrived early but I didn’t pre arrange early check-in. So, I hung out in the area till my 4PM check-in time. At 3:30 PM I get a call that the place would not be ready till 5PM but I could drop off my luggage and return at 5PM. Vacasa offered me dinner on their dime however, I had prearranged engagement and I could only apply the offer for that day. First impressions: I loved how the property was secluded but driving up there was a large overflowing trash container 10 feet from the front door (not a good look) As soon as I got out of my vehicle the stench from the trash can was horrid. Once inside the open floor plan was welcoming the kitchen was spacious with newer appliances and the unit was a 7 on a 1-10 scale. The ceilings in the bedrooms were very low and many of the curtain rings were off of the curtains. One bedroom had the smoke detector hanging down from the wire and another needed a battery change and chirped every 60 seconds which was annoying.
Upon arrival, it was 83 degrees INSIDE with a VERY strong stingy smell (New paint??). Had to open all windows and wait outside for 40 min., luckily, we brought fans which helped. No AC or screens on doors. Outdoor front door light and TV did not work. (Need HDMI cable from box to TV?) BR Lamp was plugged in with no light bulb. With the beautiful kitchen, we were surprised at the lack of basic utensils and appliances. They DO NOT have the following: spices, vinegar oil etc. (If you will be cooking - bring your own) No knives, cookie sheet, serving or mixing bowls, toaster, hair dryer or cleaning supplies. I like to keep my rentals clean so a bottle of cleaner would have been nice. Oven evidently new, but still had cardboard inside of it and DW was smelly. Did not use either one. Beds comfortable but they all need mattress and pillow covers for sanitary reasons. Plenty of towels and even beach towels which was good. While inside of house is lovely as shown in ad, we found bits of trash scattered in yard. Fire pit is a tall bunch of concrete blocks in front yard with NO outdoor seating. Suggest they add a patio/ deck with a grill and outdoor seating which would be appreciated by future renters. Neighborhood not as nice, right behind hospital and in the flight path of large planes. Hospital sirens and Ferry horn at 5:30 a.m. While it is centrally located, would not stay again because of issues noted. Fire alarm in Queen bedroom went off two nights waking us up at 1:30 am. Called and texted owner - Vacasa Mgmt Co. to solve issues on the 1st day. Quick text reply assured their local team would respond. NO PHONE CALL/RESPONSE/ VISIT FROM “THE LOCAL TEAM.” despite several attempts over 2 days. Decided to leave a day early because of their lack of response, safety concerns with fire alarm and other issues. We hope Vacasa will address these items and improve their communication. Every other owner we have rented from previously, was on top of all concerns in a timely manner. A call from a real person on our first complaint would have helped immensely. VRBO somewhat helpful but also very bad at communication. A simple call to follow up on status of our complaint put us on hold for a total of an hour! Eventually Vacasa did credit us for the one night which we appreciated, but still never corresponded or called. Hope they will up their game.
The house is quite modest and appeared to be recently renovated. We visited during an especially hot week, which made it uncomfortably hot and humid in the house. The listing did not promise air conditioning, but the house really should have at least a few window units. The lack of airflow and conditioning also left a strong musty smell throughout the house. I assume it came from the basement but it wasn't pleasant. Otherwise, the house had the basics covered and could be perfectly acceptable with a few minor improvements to the HVAC situation.
