Luray, Virginia
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall
It doesn't matter what season it is there is plenty to do at Jackson's River Hole. Located in Luray, Virginia just an hour and a half from Washington DC, Jackson's River Hole sits right on the Shenandoah River. Spend your time tubing down stream, visiting local wineries, skiing the slopes or just relaxing around a bonfire.
The space
At Jackson's River Hole you have access to plenty of board games, decks of cards, river tubes, kayaks, fishing rods (please supply your own bait), a ping pong table, corn hole board, a charcoal grill and rustic fire pit with plenty of seating.
Other things to note
Please note that charcoal is not provided for the grill but can be purchased at the nearby convenience store 1 mile further South on 340. Wood for the fire pit can be purchased there as well, or feel free to forage for downed branches and limbs in the wooded washout area before you reach the home. ***Please do not take cut firewood or downed tree limbs from neighboring lots.***
Great house with riverfront access. Large porch that is great for relaxing. The house is in awesome shape and the hosts have thought of it all. The basement is an awesome bonus with games for rainy days and river toys for nice ones. The amenities send it over the top.
I will rate the house as a 3 star property. It was spacious and the game room and kayaks were great amenities that we really enjoyed. The house didn't have enough place settings for party of 7 and the kitchen ware was not good quality. We had a bug problem. Wasp, stink bugs and other critters were around the windows and bathrooms when we checked in. The first aid kit is useless and everything is expired so make sure you bring your own supplies. Unfortunately, the low rating was not so much the house but the negative experience I had with the host. After checkout Valencia told me that a few things were broken. I wasn't aware and I promptly paid for it with my apologies. I asked about the extra cleaning fee, which was 1.6x the rate she charges to clean the entire house. She said they had to pick up the bean bag filling (why couldn't they vacuum it?), one frying pan was left outside dish washer, and the cleaning crew had to come back again due to the insect problem. She accused me of subletting the place for spring breakers but couldn't give me any details on how I trashed the place other than the 3 broken items, which I said no problem; I'll pay for them. I paid her an additional small fee to hand clean the frying pan and the extra time to vacuum, but didn't appreciate the accusations and trying to charge me 1.6x her daily cleaning fee for those minor things.
