Stayed Jun 15, 2024Such a lovely house which was perfect for our extended family group (6 adults aged from 20s to 60s). The house provided absolutely everything we needed, with comfortable bedrooms and plenty of living space. We thoroughly enjoyed both the heated pool and the games room, and the table tennis table was the scene of fierce competition throughout our stay! It’s a perfect location for visiting the many attractions of the Dordogne and the Lot, and we will definitely book again for our next visit. Thank you Nitya!

Stayed Jul 16, 2022A stunning property with wonderful views and a much-needed pool - the weather was hot... over 35 degrees most days. The house is very comfortable and there was ample room (and more) for all of us. Everything was ready for our stay and there is more than enough to do and see. St. Cyprien is very close with a wonderful Sunday market which is well worth visiting. Lucco is the BEST patisserie! Other great places nearby including Beynac and La Roque-Gageac. Castles are superb (Beynac, Castelnaud, etc), as are the gardens and views at Marqueyssac. BOOK EARLY for an evening meal at the Belle Etoile in Beynac and go on a Gabarre trip. Canoeing on the Vezere from Les Eyzies was much quieter and relaxing than the crowds on the Dordogne. Sarlat is amazing, as is the Gouffre de Padirac if you're happy to drive and are not worried about crowds... Overall a great place to stay.

Stayed Jul 27, 2019As a party of 9, age ranging from 14 to 75, the house was perfect for us. The kitchen was well appointed, dining room and outside dining areas comfortable. The teens loved the games room. We all loved the pool and the many inflatables. All beds comfy, although bedroom 5 has a very soft bed! We had a few niggles with bed set up and a leak, but they were sorted quickly and easily. All in all a beautiful property in a very quiet area. I would recommend for a large group. Thank you

Stayed Jun 15, 2019Le Maroutel is a spacious, clean and well equipped house, perfect for us as we are two families. The pool was excellent especially as we stayed during a heat wave. The owner , Nitya , is helpful and easy to contact. The house is situated in a quiet rural area but St Cyprien is only 5 mins in the car with a supermarket and a visit to the market on Sunday mornings is a must. We have stayed in many French holiday homes over the last 15 years and Le Maroutel certainly rates as one of the best. We would certainly return the next time that we visit the Dordogne and would highly recommend this property.

Stayed Jun 23, 2018What an amazing retreat the family has created! The pictures don't do the property justice...from the moment we arrived, each new corner turned left our mouths agape. The view of the pool surrounded by blooming lavender and a well-tended to garden, overlooking the fields and nearby woodlands was magical. The house is beautifully restored and offers an opportunity to step back into time - with all of the modern conveniences. The beds were very comfortable and sheets soft - a welcome benefit after long days of sight seeing, swimming, and eating much too much. The kitchen is well-equipped to make dinner at home...and like every home-kitchen the basics of olive oil/seasonings/etc. were all there (though may need to be replenished based on the previous guests). It was hard to leave the idyllic manor, but the surrounding destinations were too interesting to pass up and for that, the location was perfect: close enough for us to make near-daily runs to St. Cyprien for groceries or morning pastries, and close to some beautiful old towns to investigate. We recommend nearby Le Bugue (Creperie L'Abreuvoir was a lovely find in the old part of town), Sarlat-la-Canéda, and Monpazier (drive through Belvès to make the most of a day trip). If you have children Roc de Cazelle is a great compromise that allows kids to run around while also being interesting for adults (albeit a little cheesy with their re-enactment scenes). We couldn't have asked for more and strongly recommend this Dordogne home!

Stayed Jul 14, 2018The house is tucked away in a small valley down the end of a small track. We found everything we needed in the house and the heated pool meant we spent every free minute in the pool. It is very rustic and typical of French houses in the area. The wifi worked perfectly and meant the kids could stay connected to friends although the pool always won out. St Cyprien is only 7-8 minutes drive away, with a Carefour supermarket that had all provisions. Sarlat is 15-20minutes and has a bigger E.Leclerc. The market at Sarlat is a must BUT staying at the house for 2 weeks we went twice and the market was a fraction of the size the second week. Not sure if it's massive only once a week. The area has an abundance of things to do a small drive away from visiting troglodyte dwellings, old forts, prehistoric sights and canoeing on the Vezerre. You will not be disappointed if you rent this property.
