Naturally, the clear blue waters of Crystal Lake beckon you to be out on the water in the summer. Fall color tours, hiking, and wine tasting are fun pastimes in the fall. Winter is for skiing at nearby Crystal Mountain (8 miles away) or snowshoeing on any of the numerous trails in the area.
The 27 mile long Betsie Valley Trail offers plenty of hiking and biking opportunities. The trail stretches from Frankfort to Thompsonville and runs along the Betsie River. Access to the trail is literally steps from your back door.
Be sure to visit nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes and find out why the area has recently been voted the number one vacation place to visit in the U.S.A !

Great location on Crystal Lake and walkable to Beulah
I picked this place for a vacation for 2 families, envisioning the adults sitting on the porch while the kids (ages 9-11) frolicked in the lake right in front of us, and we did! The house is quite literally right on Crystal Lake and an easy walk into downtown Beulah. The water in front of the house is very shallow, making it ideal for kids. Beulah is very small and doesn’t have the best selection of restaurants, but there are some options there, and more in nearby towns within a 10-15 min drive. We also enjoyed being able to walk right on to the Betsie Valley Trail just outside the home. The entire house is one floor, with the “bunk room”, a queen BR, and a full bath on one side and another queen BR, a king BR, and the other full bath on the other side (along with living and dining). The two sides are only connected by a narrow galley kitchen, which is not ideal, but workable. The house was well stocked with kitchen gear (the only thing we couldn’t find was a kettle), linens, towels, and some paper products. Beach towels are not provided. You’ll also want to bring life jackets if you want to use the provided 2 single kayaks and 1 double kayak. We also enjoyed using the fire pit (buy your own firewood locally). The general area is great—you’re within 30 minutes of lots of great beaches and cute towns on Lake Michigan, lighthouses, Crystal Mountain, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and more.
Cottage was as advertised. Plenty of room and great location. Hope to return next year.
At first we were surprised to pull through a small RV Park next to the home. It was a small and quiet RV Park with obvious long term summer residents. Very nice and not an issue at all. Privacy fence separates the property. House was great. Updated rooms and bathrooms not shown in pictures.
I can't say enough about this place. We were there the week before Memorial Day and it seemed like we were the only ones on the lake. I spent most of my time sitting out on the back deck, reading and listening to the water lap against the shoreline. The house was beautifully furnished and there were plenty of dishes, pots and pans, and silverware. About the only thing we couldn't find were crackers for the Maine lobsters we had delivered while we were there. Also loved that there weren't signs all over the house telling us what not to touch, which towels we weren't to use, or not to sit on the bed comforter, etc. I've been to places like that, and it hardly promotes rest and relaxation. There also wasn't a ton of instructions on what we needed to do before we left the cottage. I had time so I went ahead and washed the sheets and towels and turned on the dishwasher before we left, but it wasn't required. There are lots to do and cute towns nearby to explore. If you have the chance, you have to try the homemade mushroom soup at Platte River Inn. It was so good, we took a quart to go! This property was so fabulous we are already planning our return trip.
Beautiful home, beautiful lake. Owners so easy to work with. Home is much larger than it appears and we had everything we needed for a wonderful family vacation week.
This was a great place to stay. The pictures do not do it justice. My family, my sister's family and my parents (10 people) stayed here for a week and the place was great. The house is much larger than it appears in the pictures with a bunk room that can easily hold up to 6 kids. We had a great time and would stay here again, we had no complaints, very well maintained!
