This craftsman home in the mid Berkeley Hills is a great place to enjoy the Berkeley lifestyle! The home is peaceful, quiet, integrated with nature (windows, breezes, hot tub, views, a balcony and a manicured outdoor space). We ate great food, did great yoga, went to great restaurants, and walked the hilly neighborhood. The host, Aglaya, is beyond hospitable and organized, and was simply a pleasure to interact with. She has great taste and knows how to set the home up so it feels like yours and is comfortable. The views, the comfortable and spacious home, and the hot tub in a virtually private garden were all pluses. Those who enjoy craftsman style will particularly enjoy the architecture. Interesting features were the wide plank outside, the corner and casement windows; the hand-pegged oak floor, the long window seats below the windows, the setting of the home on a desirable lot with privacy, a view, and more open space you would find elsewhere. We enjoyed walks, the Tilden steam train, Berkeley food (incredible but a LOT of pizza!), sunsets from the home, daily hot tubs in a fresh and clean hot tub with a view, watching the wildlife (deer, hummingbirds). The neighborhood offers street walking, parks, and lots of steep foot paths to get up to Tilden Park more quickly. You will have to walk, drive or Uber to get groceries, enjoy downtown. The stay was a good value, and although we only live across the Bay in San Francisco, we may come back.
We had a wonderful time living in this spacious, comfortable, and well-thought out home for a little over two months. We loved it. We extended our stay. We would return in a heartbeat. The house is an authentic craftsman home with unique and artistic period detail. It has been relatively recently and tastefully renovated, and has every comfort, including Nest-controlled heat on each floor. The house is spacious, minimally and tastefully decorated so as to be refreshingly uncluttered. The kitchen was spacious and well appointed. The hot tub was fantastic. Above all the service, professionalism and extraordinary communication skills of the highly organized and pleasant host were nothing short of remarkable. The home had everything we needed in reserve, and the host made it a priority for us to feel and be truly welcome to enjoy as our own. We had a relaxed and pleasant Berkeley life while staying here, with pleasant though hilly walks to neighborhood parks such as Indian Rock and the Berkeley rose garden, long hot tubs outside to warm up and enjoy the view, and spectacular glasses of wine on the balcony with the full bay view at sunset (or indoors). This is no contractor home… obviously designed by an architect who like the integration with nature, view, air. It is an older home that needs to be treated well, but very comfortable and updated in all the important ways (kitchen, baths, heat).
Wonderful views from every room in this refurbished in modernist home. Clean and comfortable, with Aglaya providing excellent communication via email. We had one glitch which was that the fridge stopped working after our first 5 days. We took care of the problem(found repairman, got it fixed) and aglaya was very generous in compensation. We hope to return next summer!!
