Mountain Dale, New York
Beautiful home on family farm, sleeps 20. Unique home with private areas - perfect for groups.
Explore the farm, feed the animals, hike our trails or the Shawangunks, pick blueberries, swim in the local community pool, visit Legoland or an indoor water park. At night visit a Casino, attend a concert, dine in town, cook smores over the firepit, enjoy the country night, lay in the grass to view the sky full of stars.
This house is located on a country road. It is a great place for walking or bike riding, although it is hilly.
The nearby town, Mountaindale, is 2 miles away. It has several bars and restaurants, a wine and liquor store, a cheese and gourmet food store, a deli and a small grocery shop, and several small shops. Mountaindale has the best pizza in the Catskills, live music on the weekends, and an incredibly chic stream-side bar.
There were 15 of us, and the house accommodated us comfortably. It is spacious and clean — just right for a large get together. Close to a lot of great outdoor recreation.
Our family had a great time at Blueberry Mountain. We organized 10 cousins in their 20’s and 30’s stay in the house while we celebrated their grandmother’s 90th birthday all weekend. The rest of us visited and feed the animals, walked the wooded trails, and played football on the lawn. The house was perfect for a large group.
We had a very nice time at Blueberry Mountain Farmhouse. The house is very spacious, with plenty of room for everyone in our party of 14. Lots of room for games, reading, yoga, etc. Never any problem with bathroom availability or kitchen space, due to there being several of each. Lots of plates, dishes, flatware (except for spoons), glassware, etc. although you may be short of glasses if you have over 15 (although there may have been more in one of the other kitchens). Ample cooking equipment as well, but you should bring a blender if you want smoothies. The only problem with cleanliness was a few dead insects that a couple of members of the party commented on. Several people did have problems with phone call reception and even texting, but the latter was intermittent. We could never get Siri and Apple Maps to set up directions on the phone until we got into Mountain Dale -- be sure to pull over in town to let it get connected. You need it with all the country roads! The yard is pleasant and we spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon in it playing games at the picnic table and sitting in the many lawn chairs talking and looking at the clouds rollin by in the beautiful blue sky. The walk from the parking area to the house does take a few minutes. While it is on flat ground it got a little tiring taking four or five loads of things between the car and house on arrival/departure. Post Hill Road was great for biking, although the hill back up from Mountain Dale was a challenge for those without electric bikes. Wonderful Rails to Trails path right at the bottom of Post Hill Road in Mountain Dale. We didn't take enough advantage of local outdoor opportunities other than biking as we went to NYC twice. A bit of a drive unless you are from the midwest and don't make it there often. Some people were annoyed by the roosters crowing throughout the day but others enjoyed it. Everyone had fun feeding the sheep. When the number in our party dropped significantly in advance of our arrival, Susan and Joseph graciously refunded the Additional Guest Fee that had been charged, which we greatly appreciated! Be prepared to drive 25 minutes to Monticello where there is an Aldi and a farmer owned store with excellent produce. The supermarket in Woodridge is quite expensive and doesn't have a very good selection. Overall we were very pleased, and wish we had been able to stay longer and take more advantage of outdoor opportunities in the area.
