Niobrara, Nebraska
Grand views await you in this well-appointed vacation home. Close to golf, water recreation, fishing and hunting.
This property is a true piece of American History. The home was built in 1900 for William Bear, who stood with Chief Standing Bear to challenge the Federal Government in Court. It was moved to Niobrara Village, added onto and updated in 2008. There are 180-degree views of the Missouri River with the Standing Bear Bridge to the East, from every part of the home.
Entering through the front door is the original main level of the house. The wood floors, doors and accents built in 1900, remain intact. Adding to the beauty of the parlor is a Diamond Willow staircase built by Keith Eckmann in 2008.
The location of this home provides year around opportunities of sporting, recreation, and family gatherings. Ample opportunities for water activities in the Niobrara, Missouri and Lewis and Clark Lake.
For security, there are two outside cameras on the property. One shows the front porch and front door. The other captures the driveway.
This was a comfortable place to rest and relax after a long day of hunting. We would definitely stay again. Thank you!
Everything was perfect.
This is one of the most beautiful properties. The view of the Missouri River and the bridge over the river is stunning. As you enjoy the big deck off the kitchen there is a vast view of the area. The bedrooms were all wonderful and spacious. The kitchen was very well stocked. Everything was very clean. Book it!!!!
Great place for a weekend getaway.
We came for peaceful, quiet stargazing and certainly weren’t disappointed! This home is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Kitchen has everything you could need and the beds are super comfortable. We all loved our time here! Thanks for sharing this beauty with us!
We were all so impressed with the property from entering the beautiful house to studying all of the history and artwork to admiring the amazing woodwork to sitting on the deck with breathtaking views to soaking in the clawfoot tub. Life doesn't get much better than this!
What a beautiful home and amazing location! Unfortunately, the three days we were there were a few of the hottest days of the summer and the AC couldn’t keep up with the 100 degree temps so the basement was the only cool location most of the time. The host was very responsive to communication and requests. His housekeeper brought a couple more fans and had someone come look at the AC unit which made a difference. Would love to rent this in the fall and enjoy time on the beautiful deck.
Just loved the house and the renovation that was done on it!!
The property is very beautiful and clean. We loved it. It did get a bit warm upstairs but still overall great stay. We would stay again!
We loved staying at this historical, art and personality-filled home. And the views! Sitting out on the deck was our favorite place to be. The endlessly changing sky! Birdsong! It is a very comfortable, beautiful home.
We loved the house, it's been beautifully restored! We enjoyed the view from the deck and having lots of space to grill and relax. The state park is close by but we didn't spend much time there. Niobrara is a quiet little town if you want to get away for a few days. There isn't much of a recreation area anymore, however. The place for tubing is several hours away in Valentine, NE and there are some websites that make it sound like Niobrara still has that. Our family loved the movie room in the basement, the large deck, and the overall vibe of the house. The kitchen is very nice if you enjoy cooking like I do! The bedrooms upstairs are very nice, and the claw foot bathtub was wonderful!
Very clean and relaxing
Beautiful home with an amazing view. A great location for a relaxing, low-key getaway. Great state parks very close by. Young kids enjoyed playing on the beach/river. Every meal was eaten on the back deck as you can't beat the fresh air, slow pace and view.
It is a very nice place to stay. No issues with anything at all. Very comfortable.!
The Bear House is a welcoming place to stay. Everything you need to enjoy your time there. Comfortable beds, plenty of space, a wonderful kitchen and just overall great accommodations. And the deck! We spent both evenings out there and the views and space couldn’t be beat! We spent time exploring the Niobrara State Park along with kayaking. Our group had such and enjoyable time relaxing and enjoying the weekend.
Beautiful historic house, stunning views. The deck was such a peaceful place to be. Very tiny downtown, but it’s minutes away from the Niobrara state park which is gorgeous. We had everything we needed for a relaxing long weekend away.
Beautiful house in great location! Really enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful home! We frequent the area and will be booking again.
This property was perfect for our group of four's weekend stay for our golf trip to Tatanka.
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your wonderful home! Gorgeous scenery, beautiful decor, and lots of room!
We really enjoyed our stay The house fit my family perfectly When we were there we spent most of our time on the deck. The air conditioning was a problem. It was working great when we got there but in the evening it started to warm up in the house. We adjusted the thermostat some but it didn’t seem to help. So we went to bed. In the morning it was working fine again. When we got back from our event that afternoon it was starting to warm up again. We went to eat and came back later and it was getting warmer in the house. I tried to find a way to contact somebody but your app wouldn’t let me. So we spent the evening on the deck and when we went to bed it was a pretty uncomfortable night for some because their windows didn’t open My son finally shut down the air conditioning because it was running but no air was moving and he didn’t want the unit to get ruined. In the morning we turned it back on and it worked again.
The craftsmanship of the home is beautiful and the view of the river valley is gorgeous. Loved looking at the stars from the big deck
Beautiful home. Enjoyed our stay.
Great place to stay, everything was very clean, only bad thing is all the stairs are dangerous for small children and the elderly.
Had a wonderful time, beautiful scenery, seen lots of deer and turkeys
Breathtaking views. We used the deck most of the trip but the inside was just as amazing as the outside. Home is a diamond. The craftsmanship was beautiful. If you are into historic homes you have to stay here. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Would be a great escape for a quiet weekend! We were in town for a wedding and it worked out perfectly!
But, no locks on bathroom doors
The house has a great story. The deck offers amazing sunsets. The state park and streams near by kept us occupied.
Very easy to access and ask questions.
