La Jolla is situated on the Pacific Ocean. Our house is a 10 minute walk from all the attractions. Along the dramatic coastline lies Scripps Park, where families can picnic throughout the summer, while enjoying Fourth of July fireworks and concerts under the stars. Just south of the park is the Children’s Pool, where a seawall was originally built to protect kids from incoming waves, but has been long taken over by a local seal colony. At some times of the year swimming is no longer permitted, but you can walk out along the seawall for a close-up view of the wildlife.

La Jolla is also home to Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography and plenty of cultural attractions including the La Jolla Playhouse and the Museum of Contemporary Art, all situated in close proximity to The Village, and our house. The University of San Diego, which hosts the popular Geisel Library and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, are both located in La Jolla as well, a short car or bus ride up the coast from our house.

La Jolla's biggest draw for locals and visitors alike are the beautiful beaches. During the summer and autumn months, the surf is relatively gentle, with warm waters in 70s. Swimmers, snorkelers, scuba divers, kayakers and surfers can enjoy the golden sands of La Jolla Shores, the Cove and Windansea, all within walking distance of the house. And be sure to keep an eye out for migrating whales off the coast as they travel to and from Baja California.

A short 10 minute drive to Pacific Beach, La Jolla Shores, downtown San Diego, San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park 20 minutes away
Walk to beaches, restaurants and shopping in the center of La Jolla. UCSD, Salk Institute, Scripps Oceanography Institute a 10 min drive away.

The setup for our dog was excellent, she enjoyed both the front and back yards. The kitchen was well stocked, the home was cozy and the king sized bed was comfortable. It was an easy walk to the beach and the surf could be heard from the house in the early morning hours. The host was great, she responded quickly to our questions and was most helpful.

We loved staying at Rita's cottage. She was a great host and we were very comfortable. It's located in a quiet residential area but you can walk within minutes to many great restaurants. We especially appreciated being able to walk to the Sunday farmer's market. It is 4 blocks from a quiet local beach and while it was a bit chilly for swimming we enjoyed sitting on the beach and watching the surfers.

The property exceeded expectations for my family's vacation stay. Location was perfect. Close enough to walk to Marine St. beach, into the Village, many restaurants, and the grocery store/ pharmacy; but far enough away that there was very little traffic or noise to be disruptive. Property was as-advertised. House was beautiful, clean, and well stocked with plenty of everything we needed for our stay. Backyard was great for relaxing in the sunshine. Communication with the owner was very easy and check-in/out was a seamless process. Definitely would consider staying here again in the future!

Love the location for walkability to restaurants, stores and beaches. Cottage had lovely landscaping in front yard and yet allowed our pet.We also enjoyed grilling in the shaded back yard. This location allowed us to explore La Jolla.

I can't say enough about how adorable this property is. It had an amazing yard and was so easy to navigate. I have a long history in La Jolla and the location is the best. I'm hoping to be back in a few weeks. I also love the neighbors.

We loved the location of the house as the ocean was just down the street. We didn’t cook or hang out much in the house but if you wanted to cook, the kitchen was nice. The bed was very comfortable, there was cable TV so we could watch the daily news which was a nice change from streaming apps. Rita provided lots of beach equipment and beach towels. The backyard was beautiful with a huge magnolia tree blooming. Rita was a lovely lady and we truly enjoyed chatting with her when we saw her. It was our 8th anniversary trip and we filled it with as many things we could, ending our week going to a Bacon Brothers concert in San Juan Capistrano that was awesome as always.

What a wonderful stay. Rita is a fantastic host, checking in on our needs the first night and responsive to any questions throughout the stay. Her recommendations were spot on ( in fact we went back a second day to the taco place she recommended… it was that good). The property was cute, cozy, immaculate and close to so much . An easy walk to the beach and local restaurants and about 15-20 minutes to drive to many attractions including Sea World which we unexpectedly ended up visiting 3 times with our fun pass as our youngest was 2 inches above height restrictions and able to ride all the roller coasters for the first time. We packed in so much fun throughout the week. The girls are already asking when we can go back.

We had a fantastic holiday in Rita’s cottage. Rita has thought through what is important in a holiday home and provided it. Easy access to a Sandy beach, restaurants, bars and supermarket. The cottage has a lovely homely feel. We’d try to book here first if coming back.
