Manchester, Vermont
Welcome to our cozy, rustic Vermont barn! It's the perfect spot for couples, families or small groups looking for a peaceful, relaxing mountain getaway, but still want to be close to everything the town has to offer. Our custom-designed two-level space is decorated with natural wood and authentic, local antiques and sits atop a private road with 12 acres of woodlands out back you can explore. Only 15 minutes to Bromley and 30 minutes to Stratton, we have everything you need for a memorable stay!
✸✸ THE SPACE ✸✸
Our barn is designed to serve as your home away from home. Although the layout is non-traditional, it is completely functional and perfect for your stay. We have listed it as a two-bedroom, as the two levels essentially become their own bedrooms, each with a separate sleeping area and bath, when the door is closed. During the day, the openness of the space provides a great atmosphere.
On the first floor, there is a living area with a half bath (sink/toilet) and a daybed that pulls out to two twin beds. There is also a semi-private bedroom area with a full bed. Although the layout is open, it is separated by the hanging white shutters (see listing photos). The floor is concrete, which can be a bit chilly during the winter, but there is supplemental electric heat on this level and we leave space heaters just in case you'd like it even warmer.
Upstairs on the second level, you'll find a dining area that comfortably seats four, a queen-sized bed, a full "all-in-one" bath, and a kitchen area. The "all-in-one" bathroom is unique, but is very functional. The French doors in the kitchen lead out to an expansive deck with tables, chairs and a grill. It's the perfect place to have your morning coffee or a pre or post dinner cocktail. And if you need to take care of some work during your trip, not to worry. Despite being tucked away in the mountains, the internet is strong, so you'll be able to take all your Zoom meetings without any issues.
✸✸ GUEST ACCESS ✸✸
You'll have the whole barn to yourself! There is a fire pit out back, a nice back yard for your use, and a HUGE deck with tables, chairs, and grill. There is a main house on the property, which may or may not be rented during your stay, but there is a generous amount of space between the house and the barn.
We have a driveway for parking that's plowed. The road is also plowed but please note there may be slippery conditions in the winter as it is fairly steep and, since it's dirt, some residual snow remains after plowing. During snow storms, the road is plowed at noon, 5PM, and 7PM.
Access to trails: There is a private driveway that runs behind the main house (197 Windsor). This goes to 221 Windsor and you'll see a maroon and gold sign at the end of the 197 Windsor driveway. If you walk behind this sign into the woods you'll find yourself on a ATV/logging trail that traverses up the hill to the left. The trail is on our land but it's really just that sliver for a little bit. Continue on that trail for about 100 feet and you'll come to a little landing with a driveway on your right that winds up the hill. Continue to your left at this point, following the same trail you've been on. In about another few hundred feet the trail turns right and starts to head up the mountain. From this point forward most of our acreage extends outward, up the mountain, in an upside down triangle pattern. You can keep following that same trail up and it is the side of Mt. Equinox. If you go really far our land ends but it's just all mountainous woods to explore no matter how far out you go.
The trails are great for hiking when there isn't snow and snowshoeing in the winter. If you have a backcountry skiing setup it's steep enough to skin up and ski down and there are some nice natural glades way up (if you do this, ask us for more info).
NOTE: Trail access is at your own risk! Please be safe and bring a phone and/or go with someone.
✸✸ THE LOCATION ✸✸
Windsor Road is the quintessential Vermont neighborhood in a quintessential Vermont town! We're situated high atop the town on the end of a private, dirt road. There are some other houses on the road but the location is very quiet and private, yet offers easy access to downtown via a 5 minute drive (about 2 miles).
✸✸ ADDITIONAL THINGS TO NOTE ✸✸
1) Please be aware that the house is situated on a dirt road at a high elevation, so is prone to winter weather elements not typically found in more urban areas. There may be snow or ice on the road, driveway, and walkways, so we recommend a four wheel drive vehicle or snow tires for access in the winter. Our driveway is plowed right up to the entrance but depending on how many cars you have and when the plow arrives you may have to shovel a short path to the driveway and dig cars out. There will be shovels, sand, and salt on site for your use. If there hasn't been a lot of snowfall the house is easily accessible, this is more a warning for times when we experience significant snowfall.
2) We do allow pets, so if you have allergies we can't guarantee that all allergens will be completely cleared before your stay. Our cleaning staff does an amazing job, but if you have severe allergies there is a potential for those to act up if pets have stayed before you.
If bringing a pet, there is an extra cleaning fee of $100 per pet per stay (not per night). We LOVE pets, but have had a really hard time with pet hair after stays. PLEASE keep pets off of all beds and furniture, especially the living room couch, during your stay.
3) You may hear some minor creaking when running hot water. This is due to the pipes expanding and is completely normal, but just want to make you aware.
4) If using the trundle beds on the first level, you may have to dress the bottom one. It's tough to slide out so we leave it undressed for access. Extra bedding is provided in the gray box to the right of the daybed underneath the side table.
- If bringing a pet, there is an extra cleaning fee of $100 per pet per stay (not per night). PLEASE keep pets off of the beds and furniture during your stay.
- Guests agree that use of trails is at their own risk.
- Please make sure to remove shoes upon entering. The rugs are light and easily stained.
- Please keep noise down after 10PM, especially if outside. Our neighbors aren't super close but noise travels very well throughout the neighborhood.
- Checkout is at 10am. Please be punctual as our cleaners need as much time as possible between stays, especially with extra sanitization for Covid. Unless a late checkout has been previously approved, there will be an additional $250 late checkout fee with an additional $100 for every hour after 12pm.
- Guests are responsible for covering our property manager's hourly rate plus all shipping costs for any forgotten items that need to be retrieved from the property and shipped back to the owner.
