Also a great winter or academic rental.
The location is ideal. It's quiet with a beautiful view. The house is very old and doesn't have central ac. The window units kept it cool, but were very loud. The bottom floor is very musty and damp. The moccasin made up for a lot, but it is very expensive for what you get.
Booking, communication, location & affordability made this booking smooth as silk! After a very challenging right months of medical issues that nearly claimed me, a quiet weekend fishing with family & friends was in order. We look forward to staying again, if we don’t move to Stonington permanently!
The Stonington house was wonderful, it was just as the listing noted, location and views are awesome, and I really appreciated the very well-supplied kitchen, including ice maker! The space is great, separation of floors gave us all some space to spread out. Furniture and appliances are new, mattresses are excellent. Thank you so much, we are looking forward to another visit!
We were up there for a wedding. Had plenty of room, great views, and very comfortable. My parents, brother, wife and I would highly recommend this house!
We had a wonderful family vacation, it was just what we needed. Picturesque views right off the living / dinning area. We were fortunate enough to see the super moon over the weekend while sipping drinks on the front deck. Very close to everything you need. Would definitely stay again.
We were disappointed with the overall appearance of the unit. All the trim was peeling and the deck needed staining. Curbside appeal was lacking. The ground floor level was very musky despite constantly running the dehumidifier. We immediately advised planned guest to stay away. They would have been sleeping on the lower level. All windows other than the two picture ones needed cleaning badly. All doors were difficult to open due mainly to humidity resulting in swelling. The screen door to the deck was missing a roller and very difficult to maneuver. The stairs to the main floor were steep and for us in our seventies, to be safe, required side stepping to descend. AC worked, but the inside standup units were very noisy and had to be running since most windows were difficult to open. We were disappointed with this rental, however we did enjoy stay because the view and location was good.
We arrived after dark and the porch light was not on, which made the house difficult to find. Not a huge deal, but when we attempted to turn the light on ourselves, nothing happened. We thought maybe a light bulb had just recently burnt out, but the nest in the light fixture says otherwise. The downstairs/entry level was much warmer than upstairs and muggy. The higher temp was OK for me, but the other guests would not have been able to sleep on the lower level (even though there were tall oscillating fans in both bedrooms). We believe there was a third portable A/C unit downstairs, but we did not discover it until the day before we left, as it was in a corner between/behind couches. The downstairs shower did have great water pressure, but a slight leak. I just kept a small towel on the floor and it wasn't a safety issue. The downstairs dehumidifier beeps loudly and a Empty message blinks when it needs to be emptied. It is easy to remove the tray, but emptying the tray could be challenging for some as the tray is not light when full. It does need to be emptied often (every 6-8 hours) so that it runs continuously. Even with it running continuously, we did notice a damp/musty smell. We did not have a bug issue. There was a washing machine and dryer, but the dryer was $1.75/load. Our group was three adults and a toddler, and we stayed a week. There were four bath towels (total) provided in the bathrooms; we did not see any extras on sight anywhere. However, we also did not reach out to the owner for additional towels. To reach the main floor, there is a narrow, steep, full flight of stairs. The handrail does not extend the entire length of the stairs, as there is a storage closet at the top of the stairs. The handrail (a 2x4?) is attached very close to the wall, making it harder to use than normal round handrails. Would not recommend for seniors. Although the temps were mid-70s to mid-80s during our stay, the upstairs needed the two portable A/C units ran continuously to keep the level cool. One of the A/C units stopped working and the owner brought a repairman within a few hours. Turns out it was just a blown fuse. There was plenty of tableware and cookware. Additional tupperware, tin foil, and baggies would have been nice for saving excess cooked food. All doors to the outside stick, so we used as few as possible. So while this location had a great view, we only enjoyed it from the inside.
The house is exactly like the post. It’s in a nice spot, saw a beautiful moon rise over the bay. House is older in avg. condition. Pay laundry was chintzy.
Overall the location was fantastic, very close to all the touristy hot-spots but far enough to be pretty quiet. Awesome little seafood shop is just a 5 minute walk. We had a fantastic clambake during our stay. The kitchen has everything you need for a week's stay. The upstairs (bed, bath, living room, kitchen) were very clean and comfortable. The downstairs (bed, bath, family room with tv, bunk bed bedroom) was very musty and damp. There was a dehumidifier in the family room that wasn't running when we got there. We turned it on and emptied it periodically, which helped some, but it really should be running all the time. The downstairs shower stall leaked water onto the floor no matter which way you pointed the shower head. I would recommend bringing towels and linens. The listing says they are provided, but we were only left 4 sets of towels and we clearly registered 5 people for a week. So we had to buy more to get us through the week. Also, there is a washer and dryer, but it has a pay dryer. So if you're going to need to use it, bring quarters. We also bought bigger sheets for the queen bed. It was very comfortable, but probably needed deep pocket sheets as they kept coming off. Overall, it's a cute little house in a great location. It just needs a little attention to those details mentioned above.
We usually rent in Maine over the summer but due to travel restrictions we decided to stay closer to home for some seaside time (we're from New Haven county). Nice, older home in super quiet neighborhood, beautiful views-- would regularly see 3-4 heron from deck. We like to cook and Sea Well Seafood market just across the marsh was convenient and had a fantastic selection of fresh seafood at very reasonable prices. Property was great home base for Mystic, beaches and Watch Hill. Will return and stay longer next time. Thank you!
