Architecturally remodelled and renovated village house

Alan was a great host and was very helpful throughout the booking and check in process. The house is in a great location and is beautifully decorated and equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need.

Nice house in a beautiful village. It’s great being so close to some good amenities. we hired bikes a 2mins walk from the house which again had really helpful staff who spoke good English and were very fair about the pricing (two people left earlier so they reduced the price) We found the people on ill de re to be the friendliest we have ever encountered in France and we have been many times! The house itself is very modern and comfortable the roof top terrace is a particularly lovely place to relax. Alan was always very good at responding quickly with information to any queries. Two people slept in the garden room ( we were 7 adults) this a nice room with en-suite but no fan/window so there was a lot of excess moisture after showering and warm at night with the only option to leave the sliding doors open. As the house is right in the main square you can hear the church bells all night so difficult to leave the window open so I think if there in the main summer months you would need a fan in the room which I didn’t spot anywhere. But these minor problems did not spoil our time in this lovely village and I would definitely stay again.

The house is just off the main square of Ars, close to the shops for early morning croissants and the beach for an early morning swim. The daily market is a short walk or cycle ride from the back gate. The interior is modern and well designed and the house is very well equipped. The outdoor eating and sitting areas are excellent. Large comfy beds and good bathrooms. Light sleepers may have to keep the windows shut in the front bedroom as two lots of church bells ring throughout the night! We think Ars is the best base from which to explore the island - not far from the best beach at Les Conches and within easy cycle ride of the wonderful all-day shellfish restaurants and St Martin.

Ideal location. A dream holiday home with good restaurants within walking distance.

The house is very nice and comfy. We stayed with seven people and it did not feel crowded. The Ile has a lot to offer we look forward to come again.

The home was perfectly located in best part of the island. Comfortable and well appointed with every thing you could possibly need for a perfect vacation. The kitchen well stocked, beds comfortable, clean and stylish, and the outdoor spaces were so carefully thought out to ensure the best vacation. We really had a great time and appreciate the very responsive communication for the owners. We highly recommend and would gladly stay here again.

Very well appointed home in an excellent location in the town centre. Convenient location to explore both sides of the island by bike. Communication with owner very good. A thoroughly enjoyable stay!

We loved the comfortable leather seating areas, modern furniture, extensive lighting fixtures and objects of art. La Retraite was fully equipped, with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. The large screen tv with Sky features and English channels was a plus for morning news and late evening programmes. The location of the property was perfect just off the main square (with bakery, restaurants and shops) in a quiet cul-de-sac. Access to the Ars-en-Re harbour restaurants and market is only 5 minutes away on foot. We loved walking to the beach (15 minutes) in the evening to watch the sun set as the tide came in, with a cold drink from the beach bar. Cycle paths are in abundance and easily accessible from the property to take you across the salt marshes, through vineyards and chic Re villages and onto the picturesque marine coastline, with it's uncrowded beaches. The property was super clean maintained with linen included in the tariff. You could not ask for better hosts. They provided excellent communications right from the initial booking process to completion of our stay. LA RETRAITE accommodation comes with our highest recommendation.

Top of the list of the homes we have stayed at on the Ile de Ré. Amazing location... right in the middle of Ars - yet the quietest place you can imagine. No cars, bikes, or people walking by. Plenty of room in the house with three rooms wth three nice baths.... They have also stocked the house with everything you need. So many places never really have everything. This one does ! The big bonus is the outside Terrace which they have built above one of the rooms. There is just something very special about being up there at any time of the day.
