We were looking for a place to get away from our busy everyday lives and this was a great place for that. Nice and simple, but with all the necessary updates. Bit of a musty smell, but overall nice.
The home was tidy and quiet, with everything we needed. We enjoyed trips to Frankfort (only 20 mins away), Beulah(adorable place), Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, golf, wine. There's a wonderful marsh walk only half mile from the house in Arcadia - saw SO MANY birds. Really loved that.
We found that there was a significant musty, “old basement” smell. The house itself is dated but appeared clean, however the house is full of the owners personal items including clothes, toiletries, etc. A few concerns arose during our stay. When we arrived we found that the owners truck and boat were parked in the driveway. This would not have been an issue except the owner contacted my husband to say that he MAY be coming to retrieve his boat on Saturday of our stay and would be in touch. We returned to the home that Saturday to discover not only had owner moved boat, but also obviously entered the house without any notice. He again later returned while we were there getting ready for dinner and requested we move cars so he could park his second vehicle and leave with boat to go fishing. We did and went to dinner. Came back from dinner to find owners second vehicle and different trailer parked in grass and unsure if/when he would be returning. Owner had obviously, again entered the house without notifying us. At this stage half our group decided to leave. My wife and I went fishing that evening. We returned from fishing around 1030 that night to see owners car still parked in lawn. At this point we decided to pack up and leave as to not be disturbed at night. Owner did return while we were packing up, to leave his boat and car and leave with second vehicle. Being half packed and unsure if he would be returning early Sunday morning we left after him.
Overall, our family had a great week but wanted to give pros/cons to help future renters. We have rented many VRBO houses over the years, so we have a lot to compare. Pros: -The house has a huge lawn which our family really enjoyed. -The kitchen was very functional and well appointed. -The A/C worked well. -There was plenty of hot water. -Close to beach (public and private) -Good WIFI. Our cell phones got good reception (Verizon). Cons: -There were no smoke detectors in the house. The description of the house states that there are smoke detectors. When we contacted the owners about this, they said that they had previously installed smoke detectors and attached them with adhesives and didn’t know what had happened to them. We bought a couple as a quick fix and the owner reimbursed us. She said she plans to have an electrician out to get one placed in each bedroom. -No deadbolt or (working) ping pong table as stated in listing -When we walked into the house, it smelled damp, maybe like mildew. It improved somewhat over time as the dehumidifier ran and as long as we kept windows open/aired out the house. -The mattresses on both queen beds were worn out and need to be replaced. -The owners have personal items throughout the house. Not sure if VRBO has a policy about this, but it made me feel uncomfortable and is not normal. -We had to request check-in instructions the day before arrival; we never received checkout instructions.
Great location, especially if you have a group playing at Arcadia Bluffs! We stayed there for the weekend as we were playing all of the courses and the proximity to the courses/casino was excellent. House was well furnished and had all of the amenities that were needed. Would stay here again in the future.
We had a great week-long summer vacation here! The house was comfortable, quiet, and was located close to many of our daily excursions (Sleeping Bear Dunes climb, Frankfort eateries, Crystal Lake, Crystal Mountain, Traverse City, etc). It was equipped with everything we needed. A big thanks to Mark and Nadine for a great home base!
Everything was excellent, we wanted to spend time on the beach and that place was perfect for us, beach, sun, walking trails, that was everything what we love ?
Very nice and private home, everything that we needed was at the house. Very comfortable, I would stay there again in a heart beat. We had a couple questions while there and I talked to the owner who was AMAZING and very responsive. I wish every owner was like him.
Spent a week in the area and this home was a perfect base for our family. Short drives to Frankfort and Traverse City. Easy access to beaches and if you want to play golf at Arcadia Bluffs it is a short 2-minute drive. Mark was a tremendous host and was easily accessible to answer questions and provide great insight into the area.
The location of this house is amazing! We rode bikes, jogged, walked, took days trips to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Manistee, overall having a relaxing fun filled vacation. Mostly we rode bikes across the street to the beach and walked, swam, and found petosky stones on a beautiful shore. This was a magnificent location for a relaxing getaway.
We have relatives with a home in Arcadia and wanted to stay close by. This property was well-located, very safe and secure, spacious and open. We've stayed in a number of vacation rentals over the past decade + and this one had by far the best kitchen layout and supplies of various kinds, which was particularly important to my wife. The property is very close of good Lake Michigan beaches, Arcadia Dunes and the C.S. Mott Preserve with hiking and other activities, Arcadia Bluffs golf courses, the Arcadia Marsh (which was extremely interesting) and other things of interest. We tend to go to Arcadia annually and would willingly return to this property.
