Man O War Cay, Abacos
Situated on a high hill with views of the reef, ocean and Harbour. Large kitchen, lots of space, large, screened-in lenai perfect for hanging out with family or reading a book, full wrap-around porches and pleasant sea breezes. Steps to private beach. Dock will accommodate 40'+ boats. We have new furniture and a new bunk room, with 4 twin beds in AC.
Man O War is quiet, and the Eastern Harbour is the secluded section. Our house is set high on the hill with incredible views. Both sunrise and sunset are unmatched - you will relax in a way you didn't realize possible before.
We came from Florida by boat so it was nice to have a house where we had access to a dock as well as a great view of the ocean. The house is spacious, and well stocked with essentials for your stay.
This house was great and exceeded our expectations. It was more spacious than the listing indicated. House is in good shape considering the past Dorian Hurricane. Many houses on island are is disrepair. Amazing sunrises each morning over the ocean from the master bedroom suite. Equally beautiful sun sets over the harbor from the dining and living rooms. New kitchen stove, washer and dryer came on handy. A welcome additional plus was the outdoor hot and cold shower. Surprising how secluded the house was which was good. The dock and mooring came in handy for family visiting on sailboat. Did not need AC at all with many screened widows and doors. Renting a golf cart is a must to get groceries and go to beaches. Great snorkeling. If you want a vacation with restaurants, lots of people, noise, night life, alcohol, do not come here. If you want a peaceful relaxing quiet place, this is it. Hosts and caretakers were right on top of things and helpful. We would love to return to this house someday!
We rented the property and chose not to stay at it after arriving and viewing it. If you want to step back in time this is your place. It has a few newer appliances since Hurricane Dorian but many are still there and do not work. Nothing in the house has been updated for 20 years, the linens, the bedding, the furniture, all need to be updated. The only AC was in the master bedroom, even in August AC is needed throughout the house. Two of the bunks in the bunk room did not have mattresses. The only thing the house had going for it was the view of harbor and the ocean. It was also very spacious with many screened windows. The house next door (15feet away) was destroyed by hurricane Dorian. It has not been cleaned up and remains a hazard and eye sore. I would fear if children were staying at the house that it is a hazard to have next door. The house had a musty smell that lingered even after being opened up. It may be the perfect rental for someone that doesn't care about newer amenities but just be warned.
Definitely stay again! The best house on the island!
Great
This house is sitting on a gorgeous piece of property which stretches from Harbor to beach, and it has a functional dock. It had some damage from the hurricane, however, and is in need of additional repairs. The dock is a bit twisted looking, but it is solid and held our boat and another just fine. The AC does not work. There are handwritten notes throughout the house about other items that do not work. Besides the AC, we got along just fine without the things that didn't work. The most glaring project which needs to be done is the removal of a junk house which sits about 15 feet off the kitchen. The roof was knocked off this structure, which used to be a guest house I suppose, and it is literally full of broken and damaged items. I don't know why it has not been bulldozed yet, but it needs to be. My biggest problem with the rental was that I did not get any arrival information about the location of the house from the owner. I emailed him several times, but he did not respond until the night we arrived and were already in the house. We only found the house by luck. We were literally looking on google-earth and happened to see a man out on his dock who was able to direct us to the house. The Property manager had fortunately left it open for us, but he was a bit surprised that we had not arrived on the 4:30 ferry, although I had emailed that we were renting a boat, not taking the ferry. Aside from that confusion and the lack of AC, we ended up having a wonderful week. We enjoyed the great views, the private beach, and the sprawling layout of the house. The house has a lot of positives about it, and rentals are scarce right now in the Abacos. If you plan to spend most of your time fishing and snorkeling and such, the house may be great for you. Just be aware it needs a bit of work.
Perfectly situated on a highpoint, Lyme Hall gives you the idyllic harbor view on one side and a commanding view of the Man-O-War channel and reefs on the other. Swimming off the Lee dock is excellent. Comfortable and spacious house with plenty of room to spread out and chill. Pretty sure my blood pressure went way down after the first day of relaxing and being in awe of the views and where we were! The house and property are a good value, but staples on the island are a bit pricey as everything has to be brought in, so bring plenty of grocery money. Credit cards are accepted and Bahamian money is one for one. Island life is at a slow and relaxing pace. The people are all very friendly and helpful, recommend renting a golf cart and a boat so you can explore the neighboring islands and get around the island. Hopetown is a must! A great value for what you get and we cannot wait to go back for another visit. The house is a great base of operations if you want to scatter and explore, or a quiet oasis if you prefer to stay put and just chill. If you want any alcohol, you need to provision up before you take the ferry over. The food in the local Dock and Dine was great each time we ate there, and I am now on the search to find where I can buy some Kalik beer in Dallas. William and Kate Wallace Dallas, Texas
We thoroughly enjoyed Lyme Hall. The cottage is nicely laid out with plenty of room for families. Sitting high on a hill over-looking both the Eastern Harbour and the Atlantic, we enjoyed the privacy it provided as well as the quiet end of the island! The caretakers were very attentive, picking us & our luggage up on their private dock on the day of arrival, and delivering our luggage to the ferry dock on the day of departure. Looking forward to a return trip!
