Stayed Jan 9, 2022We stayed at Ahwatukee Mountain View 1/9/2022 to 1/23/2022 and had a great time. We are birders and chose the house partly based on the fact that the owner mentioned putting out seed and attracting birds to the backyard. We also liked the location next to South Mountain Park. This was our first trip to the Southwest, and we got many lifers (25 for me, 37 for my wife), including some in the backyard of the house upon our arrival. In addition to the seed on the ground, there are two hanging sunflower seed feeders and a hummingbird feeder by the kitchen window. The hummingbird feeder attracted mainly Anna’s Hummingbird. but during our stay we also saw the occasional Costa’s Hummingbird. During other times of year, I suspect you’ll see other species. The regular “ordinary” visitors were Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, House Finch, and House Sparrow. More interesting visitors every day were Gambel’s Quail, White-crowned Sparrow, Curved-billed Thrasher and Abert’s Towhee. There were also occasional visits from Rosy-faced Lovebird, Inca Dove, and White-winged Dove. Other visitors seen in the tree or from the yard were: Gila Woodpecker, Gilded Flicker, Eurasian Collared-Dove, Verdin, Ruby-crowned Kinglet (once), Dark-eyed Junco (once), Northern Mockingbird, and European Starling. Seen once or twice over the park from the yard were Common Raven, Red-tailed Hawk, and one flyover of an Osprey. A Western Screech-Owl was seen occasionally at dusk in a cactus across the street from the house driveway. Access to South Mountain Park is literally next to the house and offers many trails. Some of the birds found in the park were: Black-throated Sparrow, Cactus Wren, Great-tailed Grackle, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Loggerhead Shrike, Northern Flicker, Western Screech-Owl (another cactus location), and Yellow-rumped Warbler. My main “miss” was Rock Wren, probably because my knees didn’t allow me to hike deeper into the park to find that species. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s close to the main highways, so it’s a good location for birding daytrips, which we did. If you’re new to the Southwest, I highly recommend hiring a guide to take you around. The guides know the birds and where to go, and I estimate we probably saw double the lifers we would have seen “on our own”. The owner is very friendly and accessible, and if there is anything you need, he’ll do his best to accommodate you.

Stayed Nov 18, 2021Our family went down for an event at the Arizona Grand. This house was very close to the event and anything else we needed. Loved that it was right on the South Mountain park/preserve. David's travel pictures and stories were fun to look at. House had everything we needed for our stay. Was clean and well stocked. Would definitely look to see if this house is available next time we are in the area.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This was my first time in Arizona. The house was great. It backed up to a trail that allowed for early hiking with no travel time. It was also in close enough proximity to other places to hike early (we drove to hike the Hotshots Memorial State Park). It had everything I needed to cook all the meals I wanted. And was a good place to hang out in the heat of the day. The days we were there, from the backyard, we saw all kinds of birds, javalina, rabbits, and many other ground critters. On top of that, morning hikers are so friendly and that was also very enjoyable. This house was a total gem. Thank you so much, David.

Stayed Nov 6, 2019At night we sat out on the upper deck to watch the sunset. Later in the night we listened to the coyotes sing. In the morning we feed the desert quail from a tub of birdseed thoughtfully left for the guests to engage with the birds. Peaceful. Great nights sleep

Stayed May 20, 2017We stayed in the house for 2 1/2 months. It's a great location right next to the trailhead. The house has everything you need to make your stay and wonder. Everything was in good condition and has all the amenities of home. We will definitely be saying again!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This home was in a convenient location and provided us with everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped and offered an amazing view of the desert mountains. There is a hiking trail just steps away from this home. This was so much better than a hotel! The home owner was responsive and easy to work with. I would recommend this property.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Had a great weekend of golf, hiking and relaxation. Hiking is literally out the back door. My grandson was in a golf tournament close by so didn't explore a lot of other golf in the area. Location is very handy to shopping and airport. This is an older property but clean and well equipped and comfortable.
