It is a short walk to Ganges village on beautiful Salt Spring, the largest of the Gulf Islands in the Pacific Northwest.
We welcome our guests with a bottle of West Coast wine to enjoy in the cozy sunroom overlooking the bamboo grove and fir trees or outside on the deck with a lovely view of the boats in the harbor and the Pacific Mountains in the distance.
Guests will appreciate the fully equipped kitchen and dining room as well as two bedrooms and
2 baths. Relax in the unique cedar sunroom and enjoy breakfast at the glass topped bamboo table. In the wintertime, the wood stove creates an ambiance that feels like a warm hug upon entering! Similarly the gorgeous 'Heatilator' fireplace in the living room makes for cozy evenings "where peace comes dropping slow" (from one of Yeat's poems).
The dining room features seating for six for family dinners. The cupboards are full of unique casserole dishes created by various Salt Spring potters and there are many other lovely items for your use. There is even a Mix Master if you feel ambitious after picking blackberries and want to make a pie!
Enjoy the new Smart TV and tune into Netflix or listen to your favorite You Tube music videos!
Since we own an antique/collectibles store, you will find furnishings that are mid-century chic and vintage items throughout the house.
Feel free to pound away on the piano. We were the founders of Erie Music in Southwestern Ontario that specialized in vintage instruments, and believe that music is part of the fun!
Or perhaps you will enjoy playing several board games including Chess, Scrabble (special edition set that features a board that rotates for up to 6 players), Pictionary and many more.
The Mid-Century Teak Suite in the second bedroom features a luxurious pillow top mattress and the master bedroom boasts fabulous '60's vintage dressers and bed frame.
All artwork is original and most of the artists are Salt Spring based: Jill Louise Campbell (hallway ), Kay Caitlin (sunroom), Steven Patterson (dining room), Pat Wright (blue bath) and John Jaques from his "Spirit of Saltspring" exhibition (the fireplace). Other well known arts are Ontario watercolourist, Pat Fairhead, (entrance hall) and South African sculptor, Russell Morris (dining room buffet).

The Neighborhood
We live in an established neighborhood and people are quiet and respectful. There are dogs and cats who make their homes with humans but they are all living in fenced yards. We are a short stroll from Bishop's Walk, which affords some of the nicest views of Ganges and the harbor. This is where you will see the Ganges Trail that takes you into the village within 12 minutes. There is another connecting path that meanders through the woods and where you will often see and hear rare double horned Jacob sheep in the fields. When you reach Drake road you can cross and continue through beautiful paths in Mouat's Park (see photo).
In July and August you will have many opportunities to pick luscious blackberries along the way.
We enjoyed our stay the Aerie Sunset House and our time on Salt Spring Island! The location was perfect, close to Ganges and central to all island locations for hiking, sight-seeing and meals out. Susan is an excellent host, very responsive and provided a wealth of information about the island. Nearby Beddis Beach was wonderful for sunrise and hiking in Ruckle Park along the coast was spectacular.
Aerie House was everything we hoped for and more. The host , Susan, does an excellent job of communicating, and there were many little thoughtful touches to welcome us. The location is perfect - peaceful, close to Ganges, and we were thrilled to have a local deer family of mother and two fawns as regular visitors to the yard, in addition to a multitude of birds. We also enjoyed exploring Salt Spring Island, and the bounty of the Farmers Market and all of the little farm stands that we encountered along the way. Great spot for a holiday, and we would definitely return!
This was my third stay at Aerie Sunrise and I look forward to returning! There are so many wonderful things to mention: the incredible artwork and distinctive furniture, the spacious and sunny living room areas, the patio from which to savor the natural beauty, and the generosity and kindness of the host, Susan. The location is convenient for doing things on the island, but one could just as easily stay in all day at Aerie and have a wonderful time as the atmosphere is calm, cozy, warm, and inspiring and supplied with everything you might need. Aerie Sunrise is a truly special and charming place to relax and feel restored - and to connect to nature and art. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here. :-))
What a wonderful property and host. Every single detail was perfect. The house is a short walk down a beautiful trail to the town but far enough away to be quiet and serene to enjoy the wonderful view and avoid the crowds of a busy weekend. The space was perfect for two couples. From the welcome wine to the advance check-in instructions, to the well equipped kitchen, everything was spot on. We will be back.
We loved the cottage. The sense of space and light made for an enchanting stay.
Susan’s place was a perfect place for the four of us to stay. Very spacious, comfortable and well equipped and only a short walk down to Ganges. Susan was also a very helpful host. Highly recommended.
Three longtime friends met in Canada for a week of fun and friendship at Salt Spring Island. The house was very clean and comfortable for the three of us. We saw just about everything on the island. Everything was close or an easy drive away. Fun shopping, great restaurants, lots of artist studios to visit. We really had a wonderful time and were very comfortable! Thanks Susan! We’d like to come back some time. Lovely home with beautiful view.
Landlord is very friendly and welcome. Home-stay feeling experience
Removed shoes at door and enjoyed our slippers! Followed by enjoying the comfort and quietness of the home while making new memories with our family. View from Sunroom was full of different shades of green foliage and beautiful views of the mountains and water. Susan was very kind and available to us if we needed her. Thank you for sharing your peaceful environment.
Beautiful and quiet residence, nicely appointed and cosy. Susan welcomed us and was very accommodating with all of our requests and made us feel at home. The location is extremely handy, 5 minute drive to Ganges and shopping. Highly recommended
I had a lovely winter stay (complete with snowstorm!) in the Aerie Sunrise House. It's a very quiet neighbourhood. Beautiful views from the living room out to the ocean, a nearby path (Ganges Trail) that takes you into downtown Ganges in minutes or to the wooded Mouat Park. The house is spacious and nicely appointed with vintage items and furniture and a great fireplace that made a winter stay very cozy. It's also ideally located for shopping the Salt Spring Saturday market, eating out (Moby's Pub was good), or browsing the shops downtown. The kitchen is well-supplied, the bedroom and living room very comfortable. I even played the piano! Susan was a very helpful and attentive host and her kind gift of wine and chocolates was very appreciated. Whether you want to relax or to explore all that Salt Spring Island has to offer, this house is ideal.
The host was attentive, left bottle of wine, half/half for coffee. Great view from deck. Pretty much everything needed to cook and enjoy my time.
Great property and location. Susan was a great host who accommodated my request for an extra bed and had some goodies ready for our arrival.
