Wells, New York
This cabin was built in the 1920's and slowly over the years came to be a true Adirondack beauty. As you drive down Griffin Road you come to 128 where you will see a nicely kept lawn and a beautiful rock wall surrounding the cabin. A recently added covered porch with large cedar columns adds to the outside beauty. You'll pull in the driveway to the rear entrance and enter up a few stairs to a lovely sunroom that is furnished with a pullout futon that can sleep 2 comfortably. You then enter the main cabin and to the left is the bathroom that has a granite boulder carved out to a sink and la led lightes shower. The stand up/sit down shower has bluetooth and radio so you can listen to your favorite music. When you look straight ahead is a large Elmira cookstove and matching refrigerator. Designed to resemble the cookstoves in many of the historic Adirondack Camps this stove is fully operational with 2 ovens and a warming oven. The cabinets in the kitchen were hand made by my dad in the mid 70's. My great grandfather was a stone mason as you see the large fieldstone fire place that goes from the ground to the ceiling. On the right is a granite countertop with an adjacent food bar with actual original hand hewn beams from the Orr Farm on the other side of lake Algonquin. You will notice as you enter the living room many animal mounts of the native animals of the Adirondacks. The bear came from Mt. St. Helens in Washington State and the deer are from the mountains out of the back door. You'll see the bobcat on the front of the fireplace that are plentiful around wells. The sunroom as we call it has a queen size leather pullout couch that can sleep 2. Looking back in the main living room you will see two doors to the first floor bedrooms. The right door is the main bedroom with a queen pine bolstered bed with the best most comfortable Serta Perfect sleep pillow top mattress set money can buy. To the left of the room you will notice the private sliding glass door entrance that opens up to the thermo Spa Hot Tub When you look back toward the entrance you will see the 45 inch flat screen TV. The master bedroom has roku which your welcome to move around the house to watch other TV's. The other first floor bedroom has a queen size bed and can accommodate two adults or a few children. The Cedar log stairs to the loft are a bit steep so be watchful. There is a counter balanced hatchway leading to the loft which has a super soft mattress and will sleep 2 adults comfortably. There is a single bed on one side of the loft for sleeping as well. Its best to go down the stairs backward and then look around the living room to see a 65"
smart TV that has Netflix.
The porch's view speaks for itself just sit down look around and enjoy. The 6 person fire table makes the night come alive as you watch the flames dance. There is a weber gas grill and an outdoor couch. The Team Menace Bar as its called is a great place to sit at in the morning while you sip your coffee or at night while you enjoy the view. The Newfoundland Moose mount up above give you the mountain feeling. The antler chandelier over the deck and bar inside were hand made by a Vietnam era Navy Seal from Schroon Lake out of antler sheds found in Wells. The Moose horns are from Maine.
Go down the front stairs and to the right straight ahead is the basement Arcade There is a shuffle board bowling game and a pinball machine (currently off line).
Down the driveway and across the road is over 200 ft of lake front for use along with a stairs and dock with some notice can accommodate boats jet skis kayaks or party barge should you wish to bring. (With prior notice)
I have 2 kayaks and some life jackets that can be used as well.
Life in the Adirondacks couldn't be better than at Camp Menace..
Gore Mt is awesome for a great day of skiing only 19 miles to the east on route 8. Oak Mt is a great place for a family as it has skiing and a tubing park that is 10 miles to the North .
Camp Menace is located on the main artery of snowmobile trails where riding is limitless from beginner to the expert.
Deer, bear and every wild game imaginable are literally in the back yard. It's a perfect retreat for all facets of hunting. Turkey hunting in spring starts May 1 and the big toms can be heard on many mornings right from the back door.
Lake Algonquin is stocked with Brown trout which provide summer long action. Numerous other species such as small and large mouthbass as well as perch and pickerel are plentiful. Only your imagination can guide you to the activities available all from the back door.
Please treat our house as you would if you were spending a night with your relatives. It is our home and not to be treated as a motel room on spring break. Ask yourself how would I treat my grandmothers home. It's not a motel with a repair staff it's a 100 year old mt lakeside home. There is an outdoor camera mounted on front porch that looks out only! Thank you! FYI propane runs the fire table and gas grill and is not provided depending on how much the prior guests use may or may not be full. It is sold at both stores in town and is not provided by owner. The Hot Tub is working great!!!!y

This cozy cabin was just what we needed for a nice and relaxing weekend. The owner was able to assist and was readily available for whatever we needed.
It was absolutely everything we were looking for, and everything it claimed to be, in a weekend away with the boys. Would definitely scoop this up again in the future as an excellent getaway that's not to far removed from the rest of civilization.
I had a great time here and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a unique spot off the beaten path.
This was my second time staying here and we once again had a great time celebrating and enjoying the views!
Pulling up to property was not what we expected. We expected it to be more secluded and on the water. To access water and amenities for the water you had to use the property managements yard and dock across the street. Your instructed to access the the house in the rear of property. That was up some stairs and at the top of the landing you had to push pulled up trash bags that had been there a while. We never used that door again because there was too much there. Once in the house, it could have been a lot cleaner. Your paying a cleaning fee for a reason. Amenities that are list, not as they are. Dishwasher has been broken for a while. Nothing there to do the dishes by hand. The game room they offer, not working. The mold and mildew and smell down there would make you sick. Even if it was clean they don’t tell you to bring quarters. The hot tub the first night wasn’t prepared for use. It wasn’t working and once we did you it, the amount of chlorine in it burned your lungs. The spa in the bathroom, well that could use a good power wash. Not clean. Nothing provided in the bathroom except towels. If I haven’t said it yet, you need to bring EVERYTHING to this property. The rest of the house was dirty of dust and cobwebs in every animal you see in the pics. (Above the stove a skunk full of dust) who wants to cook looking at how dirty it is??! The whole situation was uncomfortable. I really think the Vrbo ad needs a revamping for this property.
It was great Dana the owner was a great guy and very helpful. We loved this place it was very cozy and all the taxidery was so kool. The jaccuzzi was a big hit. The front porch was amazing to sit on at night with the family. If we go back to that area again we will stay here for sure
Very nice house, we really enjoyed our time over there. :)
This place was amazing. Huge covered deck was our hang out due to rain almost our entire 3 day stay but it was awesome to have that outdoor space. The covered hot tub was awesome as well. The only disappointment was the game room was not what it seemed. It’s located in the basement and was dam and mildew smell due to the rain. The loft area was very tight and very low ceiling leading to the full sized bed up there. Dana was an amazing host! Always very prompt with any questions/concerns.
Everything was Marvelous . We want to come back soon
Lovely historic cabin with stunning craftsmanship! Tranquil lake view, incredible deck area! The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, available for anything we needed, and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing! The hottub was very well kept and super relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. We would love to stay again in the future.
One of a kind cabin that had everything you would expect in a cabin in the Adirondack Mountains! The hot tub was a perfect addition on a rainy day
We absolutely loved loved loved the front Deck that is where we literally spent the entire weekend. I was a little disappointed that he pictures did not share the front of the property in VRBO or did not share the size of the bedrooms this is a very small property and listing says it would sleep 10 there is no way. Only children and teenagers can sleep up in the loft noway adults should be going up there.
This I a fantastic and unique cabin. We had a blast and plan on coming back!
We had a lovely time.
Property was nice but smaller then expected. Bedrooms are very small and loft is hard to access for older adults.
We had such a great visit here! It was very relaxing and beautiful. We saw deer multiple times a day. The host was also very responsive. We'd love to book again.
Host was responsive and very nice. Great location and the property was clean and beautiful.
We enjoyed our stay, were comfortable and got a kick out of the all the taxidermy animals!
Gorgeous location with all the amenities one could hope for. Spent the weekend with friends and had a great time swimming hiking and just enjoying the view off the front porch. Highly recommend!
I needed to find a rental in Wells, NY to be near my friends’ cabin so this fit that requirement. Cabin was okay, but I’m glad we were only there a few days. We had to supply our own toilet paper and paper towels after we ran out. 4 adults, 4 days? Seems pretty cheap. Shower was complicated and we couldn’t find instructions. It was advertised as a spa shower with sauna but no way of actually using it as more than a shower. Drains were clogged. Two bedrooms are downstairs with the other beds up a steep ladder in the loft area. I don’t recall the loft area being mentioned, but if it was, it definitely didn’t include the part about the super steep ladder.
Views of the lake were great, bed was clean comfortable and hot tub was nice to relax in at the end of the day
Every summer we vacation with our friends, which consists of 4 adults, 6 kids ages 4-10 and 2 dogs. The house, and location, were great for a week of fun. The kids loved the taxidermy, and there was more than enough sleeping space for everyone. The steps up to the loft are very steep, so needed to keep an eye on the little ones, but was otherwise fine. The dock was great, although a couple of boats parked there limited our usage for the first few days, but the owner rearranged things after realizing and freed up the room we needed for the kids to swim freely and safely. The lake is very deep, about 12 feet, so life jackets were needed but we always bring them anyway so it was not a bother. There were a couple of kayaks we were able to use, plus what we brought ourselves, and each day we would paddle about a half mile up to the Wells public beach. It’s a little sandy beach, just around the bend in an inlet and was absolutely perfect for the kids. There was a diving board, life guards and even a little charcoal grill where we made lunch. When we were done, we’d paddle back and hang out at the dock for a bit longer before dinner. On the day it rained, the covered hot tub was a great benefit. The owner lives across the street and could not be more helpful or nice. He took our garbage each day and we chatted whenever we had the chance.
Dana is great.
