Walking distance from Jamison House is a well-worn path into the Plumas National Forest. Upon request (and if available) Host Leslie will cheerfully guide guests to some of her favorite locations - dubbed namesakes like Juniper Portal, Stargazing Plateau, and the Leaning Tower of Treesa - all of which are sure to become treasured spots for visitors as well. A 10 minute walk lands vacationers at the stunning Feather River, an awesome place for waterway exploration. At Jamison House ~ wildlife abounds, hidden swimming holes await, and wide open spaces simply beg guests to BREATHE IN the High Sierra mountain air.
Enjoy hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and a multitude of winter activities (snowshoeing/snowmobiling/sledding) at Jamison House. Guests are encouraged to check out Plumas County/Lost Sierra websites to get an idea of the many local offerings - in addition to experiencing the great outdoors, folks will soon find there are a wide variety of special events catering to all sorts of hobbies and interests. See Lost Sierra Chamber of Commerce for current calendar.
Jamison House specializes in nature-immersion, sustainable living practices, and farm-to-fork offerings...there simply is no place like it in the surrounding area. Amenities are spa-like ~ the home is equipped with Himalayan salt lamps - air diffusers with essential oils - a noise simulator that plays "thunderstorm," "stream," and the like - a Bose Sound System throughout - and yet all towels and linens are line-dried when nature allows. The Jamison home is truly a cut-above the rest in the vacation rental category, and is on its way to becoming a niche-type private sanctuary retreat. For this reason, guests are encouraged to book early for their 3-night minimum stay getaway - a time period purposefully and specifically selected by Leslie to allow ample time for unwinding and gentle reflection. Having hosted for several years, her experience has been that folks need at least a few days to settle in and really relax, which is Leslie's goal for each visitor.

The recently remodeled Gold Rush inspired Jamison House is a great place for two couples or a family of four to getaway in luxury surrounded by trees and small farm animals (goats, chickens, pigs.) Leslie happily gives farm tours and invites visitors to harvest from what is available in the H.O.E. (Heaven on Earth) garden. She planted 40 apple trees in 2021 and grows strawberries and herbs prolifically - it is from these fruits and medicinals that she stocks a wide variety of value-added products in the Farm Stand located a few hundred feet from the Jamison House.
Jamison House is an animal lovers paradise and 100% dog-friendly. When guests opt to bring their favorite 4-legged friends, they will be surprised by all the luxurious canine offerings! Orthopedic dog beds, water/food bowls, extra food and gourmet treats, plus loads of toys are sure to keep dog friends wagging their tales. There is also a 10x10 outdoor kennel attached to the vacation home in the back yard in case visitors would like to explore the area, sans pups.
At Jamison House, forest and farm merge together within the property boundaries to really offer guests a unique Plumas County stay. There are greenhouses, farm animals, garden spaces, and a Farm Stand...all surrounded by pines, junipers, and fir trees. Wildflowers abound, an ephemeral stream crosses in front of the home during the months of Spring, and peace and quiet reigns in all seasons. Come explore The Lost Sierra ensconced at Forest & Farm!
Very nice house and very well stocked. Leslie was great to work with too.
Walking into The Jamison house felt like walking into my own home - it was very attractive, spacious, very well equipped and we wanted for nothing! The bottle of wine and fresh eggs waiting for us were so appreciated and delicious. This property is hands-down the best rental property I have ever stayed at for having everything we might want - from every hot drink you can imagine to olive oil and spices for cooking; from great towels to an amazing clothing steamer (?); from a great ceiling fan to effective central AC. Super access to hiking trails, the mountains, Nakoma Resort (1.8m away!), Portola and Graeagle. In short, we love this place and hope we have a chance to visit in the winter!
The host, Leslie anticipated our needs. Traveling with a dog, there was a bed, food bowls, treats and toys available to keep our little one entertained. Communications was prompt and friendly. Even offered recommendations for restaurants and local sites. The forest and farm house was very well stocked with coffee and tea options. The bed and bedding was super comfortable. Walking around the property to visit with the goats was fun too.
I would only have one suggestion: hand bar/railing for bathtub. It is extremely slippery and dangerous.
Leslie made us feel welcome from the moment we booked. Her Forest and Farm spot is lovely with comfortable accommodations and cheerful decor.
A pleasant experience! Farm fresh eggs and garden flowers were a plus! There’s a wonderful farm stand at the edge of the property also!
We stayed here during a family wedding. It was perfect. The home has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The house is cozy, clean, and well equipped. The owner is excellent at communicating and very welcoming. Would recommend the Jameison house to anyone needing a place to stay near Portola.
The Jamison House was well supplied with anything you could think of, hot chocolate/coffee, dental floss/soap, comfy/cozy bedding, wood for the wood stove, treats for the dog, the farm fresh eggs and a wonderful bottle of wine upon arrival. Leslie has quite the personal touch that everyone will love. It was magical waking up on Christmas morning 2021 to the fresh fallen snow. It was the perfect get-a-way. We are looking forward to coming back in the warmer months to the check out the farm and the town of Portola. Great place to stay for some peace and quiet.
perfect place for a family or friend gathering. well furnished and comfy. wish we could have stayed longer
This house is lovely, inviting, well-decorated and has all of the little amenities you'd want. Very thoughtfully put together for a comfortable stay. Fresh eggs from free-range chicken with a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine greet you upon arrival. Though our host was away for the weekend we had good communication when the power went out and we needed guidance. Lovely stay overall. We'd like to return with our 2 children in the summer. Thank you!
Leslie is a wonderful host. Communication about our stay was excellent, making us feel very welcome. She gave us suggestions for hiking and must sees in town. Leslie pays attention to detail and goes the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable, including comfortable beds and linens, snacks, filtered and bottled water, coffee, chocolates and kitchen basics. We had the most relaxing weekend and we’ll certainly be back!
We spent a wonderful week at Jamison House. Leslie and Tim are such welcoming hosts. They gave us great tips for local hiking and restaurants, and the fresh eggs and sourdough bread were fantastic! They were very responsive to any questions we had. The pictures of the house don't quite do it justice. It's a lovely home that was very comfortable for us, our daughter and our german shepherd. It was well stocked, and there are so many nice touches (e.g., dog toys and treats) that made it feel special. It was also exceptionally clean. We were there for a change of scenery during COVID, and we still had school and work to take care of. The internet was spotty on occasion, but we made it work for our needs. We hadn't spent much time in that part of CA before, but we definitely want to go back. We hope to be able to stay at Jamison House when we return.
