Walker, Minnesota
Beautiful historic home within Walker city limits, right on Walker Bay of Leech Lake. Blocks to Heartland and Paul Bunyan Trails, as well as the public lake access beach park and all of Walker's shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Private access to sandy lake bottom with crystal clear water that is great for swimming off the dock. Breathtaking views of the lake from almost every room of the home!
Large rooms and open spaces throughout this historic charmer with original hardwood floors and fireplace facade. The main floor includes the kitchen, half bath, dining room, large living room (one pull-out bed), and den (one pull-out bed). Head upstairs for two lake-facing bedrooms, two additional bunk rooms, and the main 3/4 bath.
There are multiple outdoor spaces to relax around the home, with a grilling deck, covered porch, large deck above the lake access, and a beautiful dock complete with a two-person bench, swim ladder, and bumper poles.
Bring your own boat or rent one just down the street - either way, the dock is available and there's still plenty of room to safely swim when a boat is tied up!
A few notes to be aware of:
*The home has a mini-split air conditioner in the kitchen on the main floor, but does not have central air conditioning. The upstairs can get a bit warm on very hot summer days; however, 3 of the bedrooms have ceiling fans and 3 additional room fans are provided. We find that open windows and lake breezes make for a comfortable night's sleep.
*There are 2 pull-out couches on the main floor; however, all private bathrooms and the shower are on the second level and require using the stairs. There is no shower or bathtub on the main level.
*The home sits at elevation above the lake, which provides breath-taking views; however, this means there are multiple stairs down to our dock at lake-level. There are 2 landings along the way to break up your trek, and the sandy lake bottom and dock at the bottom are worth it - but something to keep in mind.
*The main floor TV is a smart TV; however, the upstairs TV is not. Both TVs are connected to DVD players and there is a wide assortment of DVDs (including children's movies) available; however, we do not provide cable or satellite television.
The inside of the house had character, homey, and cozy.
Great
Our family had a wonderful time. Very quiet nice neighborhood. Great location to be able to walk or bike into Walker and enjoy the shops and dinning. Beautiful lake views. House was very clean and spacious. It had everything you needed and more was provided. Very nice to have the extra life jackets for the little ones.
This house was perfect for our Family of 10! Lots of room, lots to do. We really enjoyed our stay. Pictures were a little outdated which was a little misleading but it didn’t affect our stay at all!! I would stay there again!!!
The stairs down to the lake were manageable but the last 5 steps are treacherous. I feel an accident waiting to happen. We were unable to use the dryer, it tumbled but was extremely loud, I checked the drum, it was cracked and has a hole. Since the upper floor is not air conditioned it would have been nice to have screens on all the windows so we could have opened them. We still enjoyed our stay with the hickups, quiet neighborhood until work on the next lot was done on our last day. and it's location to town is really nice.
Great place to stay. Loved the house and the location. Three blocks from and coffee shop and Reeds! Dock was very nice and has a boat hoist which is a big positive.
The house was bigger then I expected, which was perfect for our party. The listing accurately describes the approach to the water and the lake access was very sandy and clean. The only thing to note is the cleaning fee seemed high, but it may be a reasonable price when staying more than one night.
This was an older home but a nice place to spend family time together. There was plenty of room to play games and just be together. There is a nice view of the lake. There are quite a few steps down to the lake which are manageable but be careful of the last few steps. They are very steep and get slick when wet.
This was our 2nd year here. Older house but works great for us. Provides us with plenty of room. Love being able to watch the fireworks from the dock.
Great place to stay!
Very clean location. Fun story, we found out that a family of feral cats were living under the house during our stay. The non-stick pans should be replaced, they were found to have a lot of scratches and we wouldn't recommend using those. The TV has zero service so all you can do is watch the DVD selection. Internet worked well though. The stairwell down to the lake is steep and the last section to the dock was a bit treacherous. It's off center and sloped with a bit of moss build up so it's slick when wet. Despite a these few observations, we enjoyed our stay in a quiet neighborhood and it's location to town is really nice.
Just as we expected from the pictures the house was a vintage gem in an older quiet neighborhood. It was clean and well equipped. The location was awesome for a mix of fishing and shopping and such. Owners even added a leaf to the table to give us room to eat meals family style. I would love to stay here in the future.
Great getaway in the heart of Walker. Spacious house, slightly outdated, but can’t beat the location.
The house and location worked great for us. Short walk to the stores in Walker or even to the park to watch the fireworks. Enjoyed it so much that we're coming back next year!
Location was ok and certainly great view of water. Dock wasn’t in, old furniture, no curtains, spoiled food in cabinets. This was not a luxury get away but more like watching your grandparents house for the weekend and your grandparents love to collect things from garage sales.
