Stokenham, England
Island House boasts an enviable position in a beautiful rural location and a large fully enclosed garden with a patio. The property was tastefully and thoroughly renovated in 2014. Island House is set in the popular picture-postcard village of Stokenham, with its thatched cottages and overlooks the child friendly village green. The nearest beaches can be enjoyed less than a mile away. The South West Coast Path, the longest footpath in Britain, passes close to the village and provides superb walking through stunning and dramatic countryside.
Nearby Kingsbridge is a busy market town distinguished by fine Tudor and Georgian buildings, with a largely Elizabethan colonnaded Shambles. A summer ferry runs from here to the sailing and holiday resort of Salcombe, whose calm waters are strewn with small craft, with the ruined Fort Charles at the entrance to the harbour injecting a touch of romance. Just east of Island House approximately 1m away is the lagoon of the Slapton Ley nature reserve which supports herons, terns, widgeon and great crested grebes.
Less than ten miles along the coast is Dartmouth, which is one of the most popular and picturesque tourist destinations in Devon, as it's not only close to the sea, but it's also situated on the River Dart.
Further afield is the unique resort of Torquay, where the small marina can seem almost Mediterranean, especially at night when coloured lights festoon the harbour.
The ground floor of the property is all on one level and comprises a hall which runs through the property. The hall provides access to new kitchen overlooking the rear private garden. The dining room can be accessed through double doors from the kitchen or from the Hall. The sitting room is comfortably furnished and includes a flat screen TV and DVD. The bathroom has a full size bath with shower over.
The two front bedrooms which both have a sea view have double beds. Whilst both rear bedrooms are arranged as twin rooms, one of which can be set up as double. All four bedrooms are well appointed and a good size. The first floor is completed by a WC. There is a further put up bed that can be used to accommodate a ninth visitor if required.
Bedding and towels can be provided but this is subject to a £45 laundry charge.
We loved it so much- beautyfull place and a lot of nice people and beaches and a lovely garden behind the house….thanks a lot!
A beautiful homely cottage situated in a gorgeous village with amazing views from the windows. Beautiful village pub with amazing food. Walks from the door to the breathtaking South West coast footpath and beaches. Couldn’t recommend highly enough!
Lovely well equipped home for our 3 generation family holiday. Perfect location. Many thanks
We had a fantastic stay at Island House. This property is close to the beach and shops (short drive) and a 2 minute walk to a wonderful pub. Spacious and comfortable house with everything one would need. Fantastic!
A great property for our two families to enjoy a lovely stay in south Devon. The children loved having the green so close that they could regularly go over and play and the local beaches are not far and lovely.
We had an amazing time and the photos certainly do not do the property justice and the location was brilliant for walking and exploring the coastline. Lovely pub down the road (The Tradesman's Arms) who went out of their way to provide help and assistance plus amazing food! Thank you.
Fab property, with everythingyou need to self cater. Lovely garden although very steep steps for our 1yr old grandson. The 3 children loved the park right opposite the house. There are lots of amazing beaches really close, and the village has 2 lovely pubs
The property was perfect for our purposes with two double beds and four single beds. It was clean and tidy and had all the facilities and appliances that we needed. The village was small and picturesque with two excellent pubs that provided good food, either as takeaway or eating in. Both were careful with covid rules. Everyone in the village was friendly and the beach was a walk away.
The house is absolutely lovely. The views from the house are stunning. Bedrooms are large and comfortable. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need. The garden is an added bonus. We loved our stay.
What a holiday the village the house and area all stunning. With three small children everything was easy and the house PERFECT. The kitchen facilities are particularly good for a rental property, with everything you could need. The garden, common, pub and beautiful church just makes everything easy. The best asset is the house’s location great for Dartmouth Salcombe the surrounding countryside and the start bay inn. Thanks for putting this place on homeaway.
