Some of these roads do not have guard rails, so use extreme caution while travelling the area by road.
Western North Carolina is paradise for lovers of nature, especially those who love to explore. Miles and miles of winding streams and wooded trails lead to gorgeous waterfalls and other surprises. In the autumn, the blazing colors especially pop in contrast against the bluish mountains. But there's much more to explore here than the unspoiled lands. Spend time in Cashiers and other nearby communities to sample the indigenous charm and traditions at each stop. In Cashiers you'll find excellent shopping and dining and a full calendar of civic events: the weekly Groovin' on the Green, the Cashiers Designer Showhouse, Leaf Festival, and more. And then there's the Tour de Cashiers, an annual bike race through the elevation changes of the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau on courses that range from 25 to 100 miles.
