Our chalet is a 20 minute drive to the Skyline Drive and Appalachian Trail. Warren and nearby counties have historic Civil War sites, public golf courses, fruit stands, flea markets, and antique shops. Summer, Spring, and Fall are festival season in Front Royal, which has an amusing visitor center in the old train station. Linden Vineyards and Fox Meadow Vineyards are less than 5 miles away with other wineries and pick-your-own farms and orchards nearby. Horseback riding and rafting are available from private companies. In winter, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is suggested for snow and ice. Linden is an easy drive from Washington DC or Dulles Airport via Route 66 to exit 13. There is a steep concrete driveway from the road to the house (chains recommended in ice and snow). A staircase with 13 steps leads from the driveway/parking area to the front door -- the house is NOT wheelchair accessible or suitable for persons with mobility limitations.
Some personal amenities are included, including paper products, cooking condiments, dishwashing detergent, soap, shampoo and usually, a few beers or a bottle of wine. Guests can replenish these items and multiple grocery & convenience stores in town. Virginia guidebooks, road maps, discount coupons to local attractions (when available) and other “extras” are in the house. We have about 30 movie videos and a DVD player, or you can watch tv with your Apple TV. For long leases or if the service has been put on hold between guests, we arrange TV cable/satellite service at your cost.
Warren County prohibits short-term rentals (less than 30 days) - our minimum lease period is 30+ days. We consider discounts for longer stays except in high season (September - December) and during holidays.
Rates vary with the number of guests; the rate shown is for 1 or 2 persons. We do not accommodate minors because of risks (wildlife, walking on rural roads without sidewalks, falling, swimming and/or other hazards). Accommodation of minors and/or more than the agreed-upon number of registered guests is cause for termination of the lease without refund. We charge a security deposit which is refundable if the home is vacated without damage. We recommend you purchase travel insurance to cover risks of no-show, illness or other causes over which we have no control.

We had a delightful visit to Front Royal for a nearby wedding. The Nest was the perfect comfortable home away from home for the 2 of us (although the house has 3 BR), tucked into a tranquil forested hill. Lee is the consummate hostess, leaving us thorough information about the house/community, wine/snacks in the frig, and an open invitation to enjoy their lovely property. Very clean and well-furnished with all you need. Location is near north entry to Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park where we enjoyed hiking.
We stayed at 'The Nest' for a week and had a relaxing and rejuvenating time there. The nest has all you need for a family get-away, amidst tranquil setting , Dears grazing around .. It allows you to share the city fun in closeby D.C and also other activities like wine-tasting, canoeing , golfing etc. Thumbs up to Lee for providing and managing a great place!
Lee and Hugo's nest is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The location atop High Knob hill adds provides a quiet, refreshing and rejuvenating retreat. You will be greeted by misty mornings and occasional deer sightings everyday. The house is extremely well kept and very tastefully furnished. The Nest was spacious enough to accommodate our party of 7. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in visiting the Shenandoah National Park as its just a stone throws away from the Northern entrance.
