Vallecito\/Bayfield, Colorado
Welcome to our humble abode! Enjoy refreshing breezes and beautiful views of the lake, with plenty of spaces to gather and to find privacy. Every year we make upgrades to the modest furnishings. We hope that you, your family and friends will be comfortable.
From upstairs, you see the spectacular lake. Look down to the gravel road, your 10-minute walk to Vallecito Marina. You can reserve a variety of boats, life-vests, fishing gear and paddle boards to rent. If you drive downhill, it is a one-way road for vehicles. You simply return on County Rd 501 back to the house. In a few minutes drive, there are food markets, liquor stores and more restaurants to the North. You are close to wonderful hiking and horse trails, following active creeks all around Vallecito.
You can drive 20 miles to Durango with antique shops, breweries, outdoor gear, health food, specialty shops, breweries, restaurants, the historic train to Silverton and events. Or 10 miles to Bayfield for gas stations, grocery store or farmers market, cafe's, brewery and restaurants.
Relax on the main deck with BBQ grill or watch a movie on a smart TV. Two dishwashers make for quick cleanup, whether you dine upstairs with cathedral ceiling or outdoors on the main deck. It is not a fancy place but at bedtime, you can rock a child to sleep on the porch or give them a bath.
To stay cool inside, we open the windows at night and close them in the morning. We also set up a window a/c in the kitchen upstairs and the entry level living room. "Must love wood-peckers!" (LOL) Don't worry they go to bed early.
Here are reviews we received before joining Vrbo:
"This is a very comfortable property in an excellent location with three stories of fantastic views over beautiful Vallecito Lake and surrounding mountains. We couldn't have asked for a better family retreat with nearby access to boating, hiking, and good food. Cool breezes through open windows even in the height of summer made for some excellent sleeping, and two living areas and multiple decks offered several comfortable spots for relaxing with books, games, and movies. We didn't end up cooking much, but the main kitchen was very well stocked and even the outdoor grill came with an excellent view. We were in the area for a wedding, and the hosts anticipated all our needs including setting up two irons and ironing boards. They were also very quick to answer texts and even mailed us a computer charger that we accidentally left behind. Long story short, we will definitely be back when we have a chance to be in Colorado again. Great vacation, highly recommended place and hosts."

“The lake house is such a special place. Vallecito is a stunning rare gem in Colorado, with trees all around and the mountainside striking up from the water. We came with our two little kids, ages 3 and 15 mos. We ate every meal out on the massive deck. The house stayed very cool and breezy which was perfect. Views out every window. We brought our bikes and biked around to the other side of the lake. We’ve traveled all around CO and lived in the Denver area for 6 years. Vallecito is very unique and magical. Don and Emma have infused their radiance into every inch of this lakeside retreat. Bring the family, bring friends, prepare to surrender to the lake effect of deep relaxation. "

"This is the perfect retreat for a family reunion, or any get away. The views are amazing. The sunrise over the lake is unforgettable. When our friends saw pictures of our stay there, they asked, "Why did you come home " The area is peaceful, yet so much to do- cycling, hiking or just walking around is a treat. We found friendly restaurants, and grocery stores in the immediate area. Anyone will find Bayfield or Durango great day trips. The honey store is a must. The lake house itself is very comfortable with lots of room to spread out."

"My adult children and I had a wonderful weekend at the lake house. My girls were thrilled by the property. They were pleasantly surprised by the multi-level house with large windows on every floor. A treat both for the views and all the natural light. We enjoyed cooking our meals together in the well-equipped kitchen. We brought our kayaks and hiking shoes and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area. There are very nice hiking trails close by and a boat ramp, right down the street. I look forward to returning this summer."

"I stayed at the lake house, this past October. It was "heaven on earth." Felt completely safe and secure. I love to take pictures, and the views from the house to the lake and around are beautiful. The scenery on the drive up was amazing, so many different shades of fall colors. The big kitchen had everything I needed. I was cozy warm with the fireplace and comfy bed. It was full moon that weekend, which was an extra treat. Don and Emma are caring and trustworthy. They want anyone that visits their lake house to feel like you are at home...and I did...Enjoy!"

We were there with our adult kids for some memory making time. This home did not disappoint. The kitchen table was large enough for games, along with two sofas close by, so conversations could be had by all easily. It was all also open for food prep time. The deck has a great view, afternoon shade, and also plenty of room for all to gather. We were also walking distance to the marina, which had ample rental availability when we were there. The brochure at the house of the trails offered complete discriptions and helped us narrow down our top picks, as All Trails can sometimes be too much information. Great communication with Emma as well. Thanks!!!
It was a lovely house! The host was so very concerned with making our stay the very best! A great trip!
My family and I stayed at this place and we were amazed on how clean this place is. Whoever does the cleaning should get a bonus. Thay had everything we needed and more. We are definitely staying here again. Communication with owners was also great, they answered all my questions. Great location as well.
We had a great couple of days celebraring birthdays and boating on the lake. Great space to come back to after a day on the lake.
This property was perfect for our family group of 13. Lots of beds, lots of bathrooms, and two kitchens! This was a perfect base for exploring the Durango area.
We had a lot of fun! The pontoon boat and fishing were incredible, with several rainbow trout caught for dinner! Train ride to Silverton was a lot of fun and the girls went horseback riding while the guys went zip lining. Highly recommend this house for its location and setup!
Obviously the location in wonderful and Emma and Dons home fit perfectly for our group. Would recommend to anyone that needed accommodations for a larger gathering!
Emma is a great host. The house is spacious enough for our family of 11. We enjoyed our stay everyday surrounded by mountain, lake, forest...
My family and friends had a really good time at Emma and Doug’s place. It has lots of space and wonderful views of the lake. The interior is not fancy, but there is everything you need, including a well-stocked kitchen and nice bath products. I recommend it highly. Hosts were helpful and communicated clearly.
