Cannigione, Sardegna
3 bedrooms, 3 baths, 3 kitchens, large swimming pool, big terrace, big garden
From the road between Cannigione and Arzachena, a 2km private driveway lined with ancient cork oaks, junipers and maquis leads you all the way up to the house. Built according to the principles of ecological architecture, the house is situated on a hillside overlooking an expansive, partially rocky landscape dotted with the vegetation that is so typical to Sardinia.
With a surface area of 180m2 and featuring a large swimming pool and a spacious garden with numerous seating areas, the house can accommodate a party of six with plenty of room and privacy. Cars can be parked on the grounds.
Here, on top of the hill, far away from the noisy streets, you can truly unwind in peace and quiet. In a few minutes, however, you can reach the small yet lively villages of Cannigione, Arzachena, San Pantaleo and Porto Cervo, the centre and harbour or Costa Smeralda with its colourful markets, cosy cafés and restaurants (you will find recommendations and contact details inside the house), speciality shops and supermarkets, magnificent seaside promenade and charming playgrounds. Sailing and motorboats, as well as bicycles and motorcycles, can be rented in the harbour of Cannigione. Here, you will find the docks where sightseeing boats lie at berth waiting to take you to the 60 islands making up the Maddalena Archipelago. Other parts of this island world are protected by natural conservation laws. Corsica can be reached in only one hour by boat, and Sardinia’s most beautiful beaches with their picturesque coves – where you can go snorkelling, scuba diving or windsurfing – are located a mere stone’s throw away. You can also go hiking or horse riding through rugged landscapes, or explore ancient cities and fortifications, prehistoric nuraghi and excavations. Further north towards Palau, you will run into the world-famous archaeological windsurfing village on the Isola dei Gabbiani peninsula with its many windsurfing, diving, kite and sailing schools for children a well as adults.
Back at the house, peace and quiet await you – and a large swimming pool to cool off in! And on days when the weather is not so pleasant, there are plenty of board games in the house for players of all ages. There is little chance indeed of anyone suffering from boredom here!
Thanks to the integrated home office with free high-speed internet, those who absolutely have to can work here fully undisturbed. The open-plan living area, equipped with a fireplace, provides stunning views over both land and sea. Above the large living area, a small staircase leads to the gallery with a comfy couch and chair where you can retreat with a good book. The dining area is located directly adjacent the spacious, open kitchen and has immediate access to the pool and terrace. Two more bedrooms and two bathrooms are located at the back of the house. (Linen change after 14 days) The large terrace, half of which is covered, features a walled outdoor kitchen with a fireplace and a gas-powered barbecue, as well as an additional dining table – perfect for al fresco meals! From there, you can reach a little sunroom that offers breath taking views. All rooms in the house are provided with air conditioning (optional, according to consumption).
The large pool and shady garden can be reached from the terrace. Both are located within view of the house. The pool is particularly well suited for athletic swimming, while the stunning views over the countryside give you the feeling of floating high above the clouds. Please note that use of the pool is at your own risk. The swimming pool can be used from the beginning of April until the beginning of November.
At the end of a stone staircase inside the house and connected to the basement, you will find the laundry room and the spacious guest apartment. The apartment is equipped with a small kitchen, a dining area, a sleeping area and a bathroom. It has a partially covered terrace and separate access to the garden.
This place is in heavens, 180m above sea level. Amazing views from the terrace and the pool. Hidden from sight, dreamy atmosphere both outside in the garden and inside in the living room. I would want to own such a house. But at the same time, there are some things that are a problem for a 1 week rental visitor. For instance, as mentioned by many the road to get there from the main road is brutal. Narrow and with 20 degree incline. My wife was seriously scared to drive there. The bushes scratched my car on both sides, and I just ended up accepting that as part of the experience. Secondly, since its high up, the wind is strong most of the time, that makes pool cold for kids and not a place to hang around all day. But then again, the view, the atmosphere and the small details make it a special place to stay. If you can live with the limitations then this is the place to go!
My wife and I had a fantastic stay at this property for 11 days with our 6 month old son. The house was spotlessly clean, very well kitted out and the views were stunning. I have to say i don't think the photos of the property on the website do it anywhere near justice for the reality that it is. One word of advice - the property is situated about 1.5km along a private road/dirt track which involves going up a pretty steep incline. If you hire a car, make sure you get one with decent ground clearance and a decent sized engine! 5/5 though and I suspect one day we will return.
Fantastic views of surrounding mountains. Large pool. Light breeze every day. Wonderful tranquillity. The first couple of drives up the very steep twisting 2k track were a bit scary but we got used to it and had a powerful car to help. Beautiful, well equipped house - everything you could possibly need. A great holiday.
