I the apt was clean and well cared for. In a nice neighborhood. I would describe it as shabby chic. Pretty “antique” furniture in a 1950s era apt. Kitchen is outdated but fine for snacks and breakfast. Would be difficult to do much cooking though. Host weals very nice and attentive to our requests. Check in was very easy.
This was my first experience staying at a Vrbo. Had I known I could cancel in the first 12 hours, I definitely would have done that. The hostess was kind and welcoming. However, I feel it is important that a potential renter be aware of what the place is actually like. The apartment was dark and dank. The hallway was smelly. There were safety issues such as: only one entrance and exit on a two story building and a hot water heater inside a closet with no ventilation In addition, there was a ladybug infestation in the bedroom, a rusted washer with dirty towels inside, a dryer with a black tar melted inside, a refrigerator that leaked on our food (I should have known because there was a towel placed on the bottom inside the refrigerator) There were holes in the walls, the kitchen floor and the stove top were dirty. The outlet on the kitchen counter was duct taped. I believe the kitchen was the original (1952) and was in desperate need of updating. There were broken handles on the drawers, chipped counters and everything was painted over in an effort to improve the look. The kitchen sink drained slowly. The owner brought up a bottle of bleach and used the plunger from the bathroom!!! to try to clear the drain. The bathroom had a decent sink and toilet. However, the tub had a shower curtain with mildew and there were holes with patches around the faucet. The heating vents were dusty and rusted and the living room and dining room were the sort of place where you don't want to put your feet on the carpet. I have pictures to share if needed. As it turned out, were were able to check out three days early, but again, if I had know I could do it sooner I would have. My purpose for the visit was due to my mother's illness and I really did not have the time to be concerned with finding another place and I didn't want to lose the money I had paid. I did reach out to the owner and asked to be compensated for the inconvenience (not being able to use the washer, the leaking refrigerator...etc and the overall dread) but she has not responded. I wish her well in her efforts to make a go of her business, however, her idea of luxury and my idea of luxury are world's apart.
We enjoyed our stay! It was a roomy apartment furnished with antiques & a 72 color TV. It is upstairs. The owner & hostess was very friendly and accommodating. It is very close to everything in Montgomery!
