Built as a 19th-century homestead near the mouth of the Eel River, this redwood home in Ferndale is steeped in local history. As part of an organic, working dairy farm passed through five generations, this is a place to find relaxation among beautiful flower beds, a vegetable garden, and serene pastoral scenery.
This home was originally built in the late 1800s, from old-growth redwood, on a piece of the Lost Coast Headlands, now overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. The Eel River is just up the road, and Centerville Beach is less than six miles southwest. Ferndale boasts several small-town charms, including America's tallest living Christmas tree, great concerts at The Old Steeple, and the Humboldt County Fair - all within a three-mile drive. This home makes the perfect base for excursions up and down the North Coast, whether you're planning to explore the redwoods at Humboldt Redwoods State Park about 23 miles south, visit Cal Poly Humboldt 28 miles north, or backpack the Lost Coast Trail: Mattole Beach is 37 miles south. You'll return to lovely gardens planted with flowers and vegetables and a sweeping view of the surrounding dairy farm and valley each afternoon.
The two-story interior is full of simple country charms, from the shiplap walls to the woodstove that warms the living room. Enjoy an open kitchen with every essential, a dining room table where you can gather for dinners and board games, and a TV with cable and streaming capability for family movie nights. Large windows beautifully light the bedrooms, and a Pack 'n Play and baby gate are provided for your little ones. You'll also have a private washer/dryer, forced air heat, and complimentary WiFi for your comfort and convenience.

I thought the house was beautiful on the inside. It was very clean. I enjoyed my stay until I used the water. It had a bad odor of cow manure. My family were the groomsmen in a wedding . We hadn’t seen some of our family in years and traveled over 400 miles. I tried to get a late checkout and offered to pay for it. The lady was very pushy and rude. We had tons of rules to fallow. My brother the groom came to say goodbye to us and she called me 3 times because of traffic so it was just unbelievable stressful and very uncomfortable. I would not recommend staying in this home. I didn’t want to walk down the aisle smelling like poop. It was terrible. W
Our family really enjoyed our stay out in rural Ferndale. The house has been nicely updated but retains its historic charm. It was well stocked in and we appreciated all of the amenities for kids: high chair, small folding toddler table and chairs, kids dishes, and toys in the kids room. Our extended family of 4 adults and 4 kids ages 2 - 10 were all very comfortable! Loved seeing the sweet cows, deer, ducks, and chickens on our drive in. Absolutely picturesque!
Thank you for having us in your beautiful farmhouse. We all felt really comfortable especially with the wood-burning stove! My only criticism would be the management company's check-out time of 10:00 a.m. Every rental house or hotel I've ever stayed at the earliest check-out is 11:00. It's a bit unreasonable especially for a town like Ferndale where there isn't an influx of renters banging on doors to check into a farmhouse. But other than that I have no complaints. Thanks again.
