The Prospect was erected in 1858, a testament to the bustling gold rush era that once define Beechworth. The name The Prospect pays homage to both its original custodian, pharmacist William Witt, a founding member of the Beechworth Prospecting Association and to all the hopeful prospectors who flocked Beechworth in search of gold.
