Stayed Jul 17, 2025We had an amazing family vacation staying at the Sunset Bay Lodge. The beach and dock area was a highlight for our group. We spent plenty of time hanging out at the water; sunning, playing and fires. The paddle boards and Kayaks were a VERY nice inclusion. The hunt for sea glass was a constant adventure. The house was very spacious and accommodating for large groups. The extended dining table is great for everyone to eat together. There are plenty of cups, plates and silverware. The massive fridge and freezer were perfect for our large group. The house boasts plenty of room to hangout indoors on those rainy days. We were thankful for the pile of wood the owners supplied for the outdoor fire pits. That is a very nice inclusion. One item to note is that guests are responsible for removal and disposal of their own garbage via the town recycling center just down the road. The center is only open certain days, so plan accordingly. The cost is 5 per small white garbage bag and 10 per large black bag. Thankfully we brought a few large black bags as we were able to fit 4-5 white bags in each black bag:)We will definitely consider staying at the Sunset Bay Lodge in the future.

Stayed Aug 24, 2024Lots of room and we had everything we needed. We loved the beach and paddle boards the most! The water was cold at first but warmed up. The beach is sandy in parts and stone in parts. We found some sea glass. We went on the Apostle Island Tour, captains narration was so interesting. Some of the appliances and lights have snafus, Beautiful cabin and area. We saw a deer and a bear driving in.

Stayed Jul 20, 2024This is a wonderful property for a large family to gather. Loved the rustic architecture and the wooded setting, plus the dock and beach area were perfect for our crew. We were lucky enough to have warm weather (and warm water) which is not always the case up north. The kitchen functioned well and it was great to have space for everyone to eat together. Kids really got into ping pong and watching the loft tv. We did see black bears but they didn't bother us, and the neighbor said that as long as you don't leave any food outside they'll stay away. We enjoyed the island and appreciated the quiet. Unfortunately we had thought to spend more time in Bayfield for restaurants, etc, but the cost of the ferry entered in to our decisions. Our meal at the Pub was very good, plus the Beach House and Grandpa Tony's were good options as well. Sea Cave Kayak with Trek & Trail, who could not have been better. Hiked at the State Park. Did not get to trail bike since it would have meant an additional ferry ride. We did our big grocery shopping in Ashland (about 30 min away) on our way up which worked out great. The local Bayfield store was ok for a couple things we forgot. We had a great time and were grateful to Ashley & Tim for all the information, and for letting us use their beautiful home!

Stayed May 26, 2024Very nice lodge like property West facing on Madeline Island. Wife and I stayed for 10 days and it was enjoyable. Pros: -Great views (sunsets) and water access -Larger than the pics indicate, actually is 2 different buildings with 3 separate living areas, could easily accommodate multiple families -Very close to town -The owner was very responsive Cons: -Doesn’t have a washer or dryer -You have to be careful of ticks as they are definitely in the long grass on the property
