Welcome to The Big Skye Lodge in Valle Crucis!

This unique luxury vacation lodge sits atop a private mountaintop with acres of land on all sides. Walk or hike surrounding trails, soak in the hot tub under the stars with a wood fire burning in the outdoor fireplace, or play shuffleboard with the family. Enjoy programming on the five (5) HDTVs in the house, and enjoy the convenience of being centrally located to all the High Country offers.r>
The main level features hardwood floors, two-story vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings, and custom finishes. A half bathroom/powder room tucked beneath the custom open staircase is accessible at the dramatic entrance. The left wing offers an open-concept great room with comfortable leather furniture and oversized windows centered around the stacked stone gas log fireplace and huge HDTV. The kitchen has custom cabinetry, granite countertops with a leathered granite sink, Viking appliances, a center island with a second stainless sink, and a coffee bar and wine fridge. The open dining area boasts a custom wood-slab dining table that seats eight (8) guests, plus two counter-height bar stools at the dining island, accommodating ten (10) guests.

Directions to The Big Skye Lodge take the guest on a narrow, gravel, state-maintained mountain road in a remote location. The driveway to the house is paved, very steep, with sharp curves, and is about 1/8 mile long. During winter weather, the timing and effectiveness of snow clearing efforts may dictate the renters' access or egress. There is no guarantee that snow removal efforts will be totally effective. There is a gate at the bottom of the driveway where it is steep, which may require exiting the vehicle and negotiating steep terrain to open. The purpose of the gate is to fence goats, donkeys, and other farm animals at the neighbors. It may be left open for the duration of your reservation.

The right wing offers a main floor master suite with a king bed, soaring vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings, a stacked-stone fireplace with gas logs, an HDTV, and a comfy sofa for private lounging. The ensuite master bathroom entrance is a restored 1800s cabin and offers his and hers vanities and toilets, heated tile floors, heated towel bars, an effervescent soaking tub, and a slate tile shower.

Upstairs features a loft-style den with a shuffleboard table, a large HDTV, comfy theater-style seating, and a table for games and puzzles. On each side of the den are two large bedroom suites, each with two queen beds, wall-mounted HDTVs, full ensuite bathrooms with soaking tubs and custom tile showers, and walk-in closets. Each has a washer and dryer. There is a Juliette deck off the den that looks out at the mountain view.

The dramatic front entrance offers a porte-cochere, covered pull-up parking at the top of a long, winding, paved driveway. Custom stone steps lead to the front door. There is additional level parking on either side of the front entrance. The open-air deck wraps around the entire rear and both sides of the house and boasts outdoor dining, a stainless gas grill, a large stone wood-burning fireplace, Adirondack-style deck furniture, and a hot tub. This house also offers central heating and air conditioning, and WiFi internet.

Great property great views lots of amenities..nice house some of the amenities offered weren’t working properly. Grill had no propane tank, couldn’t get the fireplaces to light, only the living room tv worked. Still a great place and would definitely return.

First off the property was great and the home surpassed our expectations. The management company was a nightmare to deal with during our stay for a number of reasons: We stayed during winter and endured a snow storm dropping around 5 inches of snow on the property, when we asked the company what will happen if we are unable to vacate the property at our check out time due to weather, the response we received was we should just leave before the weather actually comes in (no refund would be given or offered with this option and this was Christmas Eve!). Next after the snow storm came the driveway to the property is absolutely insanely steep and probably around 1/4 mile or more and had about 2 inches of ice along with the snow, we had inquired repeatedly with the management company to ensure that the drive was cleared so that we could check out at the designated time of our original reservation. We were told that they would not be clearing the drive unless there were 3 inches or more of snowfall (which there was well over this amount) and that we had to be out of the house by 11 AM as new guests were scheduled to check in later that day. So 11 AM comes and with countless attempts to contact the management company, the drive still is not cleared and we were told that we had to be out by 11 AM no exceptions. So we attempted to leave via the driveway that had not been cleared :(, let's just say this did not end well. With both of our parties cars getting disabled due to the drive being undrivable we had to return to the house. Finally hours later the company sent someone to clear the drive, they informed us that the drive would be drivable later that day (well after the time that the management company told us that we needed to be out). We also were waiting on tow trucks to come to the property to assist our disabled vehicles in the mean time hoping we were able to get out but... the entire mountain was having the same issue but this management company made us feel that this was an isolated issue. Finally we were able to get a hold of the management company again to inform them of the situation and asked what our options were and if we were able to stay the night at the property as a tow truck was most likely not going to show up until the next day. The employee responded that this was not possible as new guests were late but were scheduled to arrive any moment and we had to be out (without the property being cleaned and with us still in the property!), their suggestion was that we call an uber and that their was a LAQUINTA in town that he was sure had availability! Quick Fact: UBER does not even work in this remote area just FYI. Meanwhile a tow truck actually shows up to the property at 7 PM and told us it was too dangerous to pull either car down the driveway as the driveway was still unpassable for what they deemed any vehicle. At this same time, the new guests showed up and attempted to enter the properties driveway, it did not go well and their car slid off of the road and had to be assisted. Also, house cleaners attempted to go up the drive way and informed the management company that it was not safe to enter or exit the property as they as well almost crashed their vehicle. So, after an entire wasted day due to the management company attempting to make us leave in dangerous conditions and risking serious bodily injury and damage to our vehicles we were told that we could stay another night at the property not by the management company but by the guest that had hiked up the mountain from their vehicle. We finally got ahold of someone from the management company to inform them again of everything going on and stressed that without the drive being cleared first thing in the morning we would be unable to exit the home yet again as weather hadn't improved. They assured us that would happen, the drive was not completely plowed yet again and we were unable to exit the property until almost 2 PM that day. The company did not even bother calling us to ask if we had left the property until much later that day. The only thing they were quick to do was provide us a bill for the extra night at Full Nightly Rate. I can not stress how miserably this company failed at their opportunity for basic customer service for their guests in a difficult situation and would not recommend due to the fact of our experience. As a vacation rental owner ourselves, I would be infuriated to find that a management company treated my guests like this on my behalf!

The house is beautiful and the views fantastic. It was a great family vacation!! It was very disappointing to have the fireplace in the main living area not function throughout our entire stay. Coming from Florida it was something we were really looking forward to. We were told by one the workmen it had been known it was not working for several weeks and a part had been ordered. This was not disclosed. We had two mice within the house. One we were able to relocate away from the house. We had issues with flies and wasp like bugs in the upstairs bedrooms every morning. They would gather on the windows. They did attempt to spray but the issue continued. Some basic maintenance issues that should be addressed - The icemaker was not functioning properly, the right side of the griddle would not heat, the master bedroom shower control would fall down and shut off the water while showering on the right side. The wood trim around the master bedroom door needs repaired. We ordered wood for the outdoor fireplace and it was wet and the wood was very difficult to burn. We had to purchase additional fire starter logs in order to use the wood. The rental company provided a credit on our stay and a future discount on a rental.

This house is beyond beautiful, spacious and the view is STUNNING! The kitchen was well equipped with the finest appliances. The beds (especially the king bed) was so comfortable. The only 3 things that were an issue was our main fireplace didn't work, the remote control was confusing to use, and the thermostat probably needed some directions on how to use. Even though the kitchen had a nice trash compactor, a normal trash can would have been nice also. But nonetheless, I would definitely book this again. We loved it!!

A true five-star cabin. By far and away the nicest one we've stayed in, and we've stayed in many. Furnishings, appliances, bedding, kitchen stuff, all amazing. One suggestion, the electronics system was pretty difficult to understand and I'm usually pretty good at this stuff. And we tried. Different menus would come up that didn't seem to make any sense.Maybe an FAQ for the remote would be helpful. And I guess they cannot make the driveway any less steep! Otherwise the place was perfect

We loved this home, and definitely intend to come back. The view was unbelievable, and we saw lots of deer and bunnies in the morning from the deck. The rooms were nicely furnished with VERY comfortable beds and pillows. The house is well made and quiet. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook. The home has a mesh network for the wifi, so our kids could easily do online school with no connectivity issues. The staff at Carolina Cabin Rentals was very helpful and responsive. The hot tub was unfortunately broken during our stay; the staff tried to get it operational for our visit but when they couldn't, we were refunded some of our rental fee. Even though the trip up to the home is winding and steep, it is well worth it! And the trip into Valle Crucis or Boone is easy for meals, hikes, grocery runs, etc. We have rented several homes in the Boone/Blowing Rock area, and this is the one we intend to visit again.

We loved our time at BSL, it was a great week and everything in the house was great. the kids and adults all enjoyed our time in and our of the cabin. The road up to the lodge is not for the faint of heart, it was stepper then expected.
