Stayed Apr 1, 2025My family stayed here for a week for celebrations and a family reunion. The property is stunning and the hosts are kind, welcoming and well-informed on the area and property. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen extremely well-equipped (a vitamix!) The hosts are good communicators and I would highly recommend this place for a big group looking for lots of space in a remote area of Hawaii island. One thing potential guests will want to know-- although we found this place very comfortable, it might not be comfortable for everyone. The ride to the property from the highway is 20 minutes uphill on a bumpy road. There are no shortcuts and if you have a bad back, it might not work for you. Also, there is no heat in the bedrooms. It can get chilly at night, so make sure everyone in your party is well-aware to bring extra layers. I would absolutely recommend Ahu Lani to a group of crunchy travelers who enjoy hiking and cooking together. It's a very very special place.

Stayed Dec 20, 2024It was a beautiful property. We had a wonderful time there. I ended up in the ICU and Kaia took great care of my friends. I would rent this again.

Stayed Dec 27, 2023A stunning and beautiful situation and location. The hosts Garrett and Kaia were so pleasant to deal with and very helpful. They made suggestions as to sights to see and good places to eat, going so far as to even picking up a meal for us. There was plenty of room at this location for all of our family and each member had their own room. Out grand children greatly enjoyed the animal life both domestic and wild. Mahalo Kaia and Garrett.

Stayed Feb 21, 2023The pictures on VRBO do NOT do this property justice. It is amazingly beautiful and peaceful. The family room and kitchen were so spacious that everyone hung out for hours every evening for meals and to play games. We spent a lot of time together on the massive wrap-around porches. The kids loved petting the goats and horses and checking for eggs in the chicken coop. And the whole family laid in the courtyard at night watching the stars. We went to Kona and Hilo to do a few touristy things. But I would have been happy just staying at the house. The yoga studio is awesome. Tanner, the caretaker, lives nearby and took us on a tour of the land. He’s a conservationist and is working to reintroduce trees and protect the Hawaiian ecosystem. He’s very knowledgeable- we learned quite a bit from him. Also, we were celebrating the life of my younger brother who passed recently and he brought 3 trees for us to plant in his memory. It was very thoughtful and meant a lot to all of us. I would recommend buying groceries before you head there (there’s a great Costco in Kona). But other than food, everything you need is there (including a kitchen with all the utensils you need and even beach chairs and boogie boards for the beach). I would also recommend doing the initial drive up the mountain during the day. The road is safe but quite an adventure the first night. LOL. This is the perfect spot for a restful retreat and was my favorite vacation ever. I couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you!!
