My husband and I stayed on the house boat Aug 18-21, and it was an awesome experience. Manuel met us on time at a predetermined location, (behind the Islamorada Library) with a motor boat, and took us to the house boat. He showed us how to use all the amenities, as everything is solar powered. He also showed us how to use the motor boat. My husband and I are both familiar with boating and RV’ing, so that was a big help, as the house boat is basically a floating, off-grid, RV. Manuel was very polite and extremely easy to get ahold of via text and facetime when we had a question. During the day time, we had the AC off and the doors open (it was very breezy), allowing for the solar batteries to charge up. (You have to be conscious of your electrical usage) At night the AC ran without issue. The boat has a working microwave, stove, TV, WIFI, and fridge. We got food from the Publix at the top of the island and had breakfast and lunch on the boat. In the evening we took the motor boat to the mainland and had dinner. Never had an issue landing the motor boat of getting it started. (There is also street parking available, and since we were there in the off season, spots were always open for our rental car.) There’s an awesome roof deck where I laid out and read while my husband fished for pretty much 3 days straight. He caught a ton of different snappers, and we were able to see nurse sharks and dolphins on 2 occasions. There are 2 beds, both were clean and comfortable.
