Portland, Maine
Welcome to The Morrill Mansion Inn! This 1800's era townhouse has been meticulously restored to its original Italianate elegance. Formerly the Morrill Mansion Bed & Breakfast, we recently dropped the breakfast to serve Airbnb & VRBO guests near and far as a boutique hotel.
Each room has a private ensuite bath, queen sized bed, smart TV (no cable but YouTube TV account), white noise machine, a reading chair (or couch depending on the room), mini fridge, & one parking spot for *compact cars* only.
The space:
This historic home was built in the early 1800s for one of the founders of the B&M Factory (the M stands for Morrill). Up until 2021, the B&M factory had been exclusively making B&M beans and their infamous smoke stack was a staple in the Portland Skyline. What started as a single family home, the Morrill Mansion saw many other uses before morphing into a bed and breakfast in the 1990s, and recently dropped the breakfast to serve Airbnb guests near and far. Architectural details that make the home unique have been restored and modern amenities have been added to make your stay in Portland comfortable.
With just eight guest rooms, our inn offers a peaceful stay satisfying social guests or those seeking solace. Each private room, with private ensuite bath, is furnished with a queen sized bed, television (not your traditional cable, we have a smart TV with a YouTube TV account which offers live channels), white noise machine, a reading chair (or couch depending on the room), and a mini fridge. During the summer months (May through October) each room has a window AC unit and during heating season each room has their own Rinnai heater which allows you to control your own heat.
The guest rooms share the sitting room located on the first floor which has a coffee station and luggage nook for guests who need storage before and/or after check out.
***WINTER PARKING: If we should have a snow storm, the day after the storm, we are required to remove all cars from the parking area so it can be properly cleaned out. From 9am through 3pm cars must be moved. Closest street parking with no time restrictions is about a half mile away so its a good time to explore the sites downtown or in our neighboring cities! The host will message through the Airbnb website/app the day of snow removal and any car left in the parking area will be charged a $100 fee***
Other things to note:
From November through March, we will be completing light renovations between 10am and 5pm. During this time you may hear hammering, chop saws, thuds, etc.
We loved our stay at the Morrill Mansion in Portland. The mansion is located in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by beautiful, historic, old homes. There were several restaurants and bars within 0.5 miles, walking distance. The mansion has one parking space per room; the spaces are numbered. The parking area is 'cozy' but completely manageable as long as everyone parks properly. Katrina sent me an email with excellent, detailed instructions on entering the mansion and our room. They were easy to follow. I was delighted to see that the historic decor of the mansion had been maintained. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom was beautiful with a tiled shower (no tub which was explained in the online listing). My husband has a sore knee so we drove over to the Old Port but it is within walking distance. The bed was very comfortable and the TV had YouTubeTV. On the first floor is a beautiful sitting room with a little kitchenette providing coffee, tea, ice, and glassware for drinks. I recommend Morrill Mansion as a comfortable place to stay in Portland.
Property location is not ideal for a first time visitor who does not know Portland at all. Long walk to Old Port and Eastern Promenade. Room had updated furnishings though peeling wall paint. Hallways need updating. Parking is nice to have but very tight even for a compact car (make sure to back into spots!). Check-in time is reasonable but 10am checkout seems very early - also, 60 day cancellation policy is strict so have confidence when booking!
Beautiful property in a really good location. We walked almost everywhere we went, which was great. The room itself was clean, bright, and included everything we needed. The inside and outside of the property looked incredible. We would stay again. Definitely listen to the host and rent/bring a compact car. Makes parking easier for everyone!
Great house, lovely bright room , good location for walking into town and Katrina responded to queries very quickly and was very helpful.
