Trenton, New Jersey
Built in 1775, this 10,000 square foot mansion with 10 beautiful acres of land provides for a luxurious vacation. Amenities include a private lake, swimming pool, tennis court, jogging and biking trail, children's playground, nature trail and more. The inside of the house includes a full bar, two large children's play rooms, a greenhouse, an office, a library, theater, parlor, and formal and informal dining areas. This old home is maintained by a cleaning company, property management and landscaping service to preserve its history. Guests should not expect a brand new facility or a 5 star hotel. Guests should look elsewhere for that type of stay such as a large hotel chain. Guests appreciate this home for charm, space, history and amenities.
The house sleeps up to 20. However, approval and additional payment is required for groups of more than 9. Since larger groups do require more maintenance of this historic property, there is a $30 per day charge per guest after the 9th guest.
This is a large house. There are 14 beds. The second floor has 4 Queens, 2 Kings, and 2 singles in 4 large bedrooms and 2 smaller bedrooms. The third floor has two bedrooms with a total of one bunk bed (2 singles), 2 singles and one King sized bed. On the 1st floor we can set up a temporary bed which has been useful for those who cannot climb stairs. Cots may be available. There are 7 bathrooms (One is in the pool house). (Due to a VRBO glitch, the description on this homepage indicates only 2 bedrooms but there are in fact 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.)
My group arrived and we were greeted promptly. We enjoyed our stay and the property had so much to offer! We did have a hard time getting responses from the property manager but the property owner was quick to jump in and respond quickly. There are other tenants living on the property and I think we were expecting a more secluded pool/lake. Overall, it was a fantastic place with lots of character and I would definitely stay again.
The house was very comfortable and accomedating for a large group with many spaces to gather. The grounds, especially the swimming pool, were helpful in keeping children entertained. The house was well equipped with sheets and towels and other amenities. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The location was convenient to several places we went. The best feature during the heat wave was the air conditioning.
We stayed at the property with a group of friends and enjoyed the pool and grounds thoroughly. It was a unique stay with lots to offer close to the city. The property and house are spacious.
The place is amazing and relaxing we were only company of 3 so we did not need much, however just saying since it is not mentioned the house is right on a main rd so the noise from trucks train and traffic never stops, also while sitting out the first night noticed cameras everywhere so we felt a little weird, again it might be for emergency reasons but you can never be your self like you would like since someone always watching. Also there is a family living in the house and when the place gets booked they move to the house next door so you really not in private as described. We wanted to do some laundry and when we open the dryer there were cloths in it so we decided not to use it still had a great time since all i wanted was a pool for few days, would i come here again? For sure not.
More than we ever could have imagined! Our vacation here was perfect! I would love to come back again some day. Our whole family absolutely loved it!
Overall happy and satisfied Lovely home and grounds Would stay here again
I stayed with two friends and family at the property for a college reunion. The pool saved us when the heat index hit 100 degrees. The property is clean and well-kept. Some in our party did not have cars and I would recommend a car if you stay at the property. The property is an oasis in the middle of a densely populated area. As an 18th century house, the layout is unique and I would also recommend looking at the bedroom layout if you plan for a large group. The history of the American Revolution is at the doorstep of the property if you have forgotten the details of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware.
Our group of 10 had a great stay. We enjoyed the heated pool and cozy bedrooms, used the kitchen and hot tub. Kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, dishes, utensils.
We had a fantastic weekend at Boxwood. It was a great place for a gathering of our extended family of 10, ages 8 to 70. I’ve never rented a property with such a huge family room and dining area with a beautiful view to the pond and backyard. Plenty of space inside and outside for us to spread out and to come together. We couldn’t have picked a better place for our active family. Several brought bikes for a long ride along the canal path that runs behind the property while others used the bikes that were available here. The joggers found it to be a terrific jogging path. The tennis court could use resurfacing but we still enjoyed knocking around some balls each day. Other than a drive to New Hope and Lambertville one day and grocery runs, we barely left “home.” The kitchen in the house isn’t big but it opens to a big dining area with one long farmhouse table. The chefs in the family were glad to find so much refrigerator space and another kitchen at the pool house. We visited in early spring so the pool wasn’t open (the Jacuzzi was), but we were able to grill at the pool area, a beautiful private setting. Everyone wants to return in summer when the pool is open. Plain but comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. Really spacious home and property. Eric the owner answered our questions promptly before we decided to rent and later told us about the Boxwood’s fascinating history (1775!). Jeff the caretaker was very friendly and helpful. Thanks. We’ll be back! 5 stars.
