Stayed Sep 19, 2025We enjoyed our stay. Had a little glitch with the VRBO app that made communication challenging. There were a few things that needed tending to. We plan to stay again. Lots of wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces.

Stayed Jun 13, 2025We loved the charm and space of this property. We were here for a family reunion and Boxwood did not disappoint. Especially since we knew the family that lived in this house many years ago, we loved seeing the old pictures and art. It is a special place. The pool, hot tub and lakefront living room were popular with our group!

Stayed May 15, 2025We had 7 adults come together for our daughter’s graduation and this home could not have been more perfect. Plenty of room for everyone with room to spare. The grounds were incredible and the pool was a welcomed way to cool down on a warm day. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Stayed Apr 4, 2025First, the good stuff; the location is enchanting. The house itself is full of history and charm - there was even a secret staircase! Everyone in our group was enchanted by the lower level of the original house. From the cozy study to the spacious living room and all the other unique rooms, the house had character. And if you're into photography, you'll love how photogenic the place is. So many perfect places to take pictures. We had a large group of 25 people and the house accommodated us comfortably. There was plenty of bedding for everyone, plenty of refrigerator space, and more than enough cookware to prepare meals for a crowd.Parking wasn't a problem either - there was more than enough room for all of our vehicles. We visited in April when it was still a little too cold to use the pool area. Now for the not so great parts. The house is clearly aging and in need of some TLC. There are visible signs of water damage in certain areas, and some rooms had a noticeable musty smell. We also encountered a fair amount of bugs - stink bugs, spiders, etc. (This was disclosed in the listing, so it wasn't a surprise, but it's worth repeating). Dead bugs piled up in window ledges. There was peeling paint and general wear and tear in several parts of the house, which detracted from the overall experience. The list of beds on the listing isn't entirely accurate either. The listing pictures are also several years out of date, but are mostly accurate.

Stayed Nov 26, 2024Our group really enjoyed the stay at Boxwood. There were tons of different rooms and space for us all. Some of the older family members really enjoyed learning about the history of the property as well.

Stayed Oct 24, 2024We were in town for a wedding, seven of us. We had plenty of space to get ready and stay. Some of our family came over the day after the wedding and we enjoyed the property, the space, and the rooms accommodated some additional people to stay the night. It is an older home with amazing charm and awesome for group photos. Like they said, not a 5 star hotel but it makes up for it in amenities, location and space. We loved our stay.

Stayed Aug 23, 2024Eric was a great host who was helpful and transparent in accommodating not only our large group staying in the house, but single day guests visiting for the afternoon. He was up front about all costs, security deposits, and requests for keeping this classic home in ship-shape. The house itself is enormous and slept 21 of us with ease. It also provided ample room to eat, sleep, play, or lounge. We loved having the pool separated from the main home with a large pool-house nearby as an additional bathroom, kitchen, and dining area. Any downsides to the home are again very transparently laid out in the description. Yes, it is almost 250 years old, so it's a bit creaky with some broken doorknobs or screens, but for the most part we found the charm of the history of the house outweighed those minor issues. Yes, there are some pests. We killed a few spiders and found some gross stuff in the closed hot tub (the other one worked fine). We also got some mosquito bites, but bug spray solved most of our problems the second day. All in all, we really enjoyed ourselves here and definitely plan to come back in the future. Part of it is that the house itself is great for large groups. The other part is a host who is accommodating and up front about expectations. Appreciate the stay, Eric!

Stayed Jul 11, 2024This place rocks! Our family gathered for my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary, 9 adults, 8 teens and teens. All age groups loved the place. The grounds are impressive and vast. The house is old, like the description says, but it has character and a lot of space both inside and out. Multiple cooking areas, so no problem making meals for large groups. The owner was diligent in answering questions before we arrived, and there was an onsite property manager to answer questions and make minor repairs when needed. All family members said we would rent this place again.

Stayed Jun 27, 2024It was an enjoyable stay for my entire family of 25 people. We ran out of rooms and had to make do but it all worked out. We had 21 adults and 4 kids (6-8). It was a spacious house with an open dining room area, leading into the big living room which contained a bar. The pool was a bit dirty and was cleaned after 2 days of already staying there. The pool received a lot of leaves and debris from the trees so I understand that it will naturally happen. I guess the pool maintenance is on certain days. There was no firewood next to the fire pit so that was a negative. I was told to go to another location on the property for the firewood, which was damp and dried out. Check in was an issue because my last four digits from my phone number were not uploaded before arrival. We waited a half an hour outside waiting for Geoff to call us back. He gave us a new code. While the stay was great, and everything worked out, it bugged me a bit that no one was available to help us when we tried to check in at the designated time. That would be the time that someone should be readily available to help. Other than that, it’s a nice place, big grounds, big pool, and fun amenities. It was solid communication before check in and and during the stay. So I kept the star rating higher. Just keep in kind, any additional guests over a certain number, you have to pay extra, and you can only have 8 cars in the driveway so as to not block the other residence on the property.

Stayed Jun 14, 2024We had a great stay. The house is well maintained and was big enough to allow 9 adults and 1 toddler enough space to retreat from one another.
