Yellowstone National Park has been a top tourist destination since its opening in 1872. And your WorldMark West Yellowstone is the perfect location for seeing the park's hundreds of geysers (including the world-famous Old Faithful), pools of boiling mud, and an amazing assembly of wildlife, such as bears, wolves, bison, and elk. Yellowstone's west entrance is just one block from your resort.
While the national park is certainly its top draw, West Yellowstone (pop. 1,177) is also an ideal location for skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. The area's backcountry and telemark skiing is considered tops in the nation. You can also discover the town's gift shops, galleries, and specialty stores, and take in a show at the Playmill Theatre downtown.
For inquisitive minds, there are two museums that should not be missed. History buffs should head to the Museum of the Yellowstone, which depicts the area's early days. And The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center-right across the street from your resort-gives you the chance to learn about these animals up close and personal.
Helpful Hints: Please review park "Gate & Road Closures at Yellowstone National Park" prior to booking West Yellowstone.
Popular Attractions
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone, America's and the world's first national park, is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Within its 3,472 square miles are the geyser Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, hundreds of geysers and hot springs, and abundant wildlife.
The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center
A not-for-profit wildlife park and educational facility, the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center has eight grizzly bears, two packs of gray wolves, and six birds of prey that are all unable to live in the wild for different reasons. Learn about the animals through exhibits, as well as by observing them.
Museum of the Yellowstone
Housed in the historic Union Pacific Depot, exhibits on the U.S. Cavalry, trappers, cowboys, and Native Americans show the area's early days. Displays and videos about the region's largest earthquake in 1959, and devastating fires in 1988 tell a darker story. The museum is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Annual Festivals
March: Snowmobile Expo
August: Rod Run, Mountain Man Rendezvous
All Summer: Music in the Park
Great accommodations - the room was spacious and very clean. The front desk staff and manager were extremely friendly and helpful. The only downside was that we were not notified by Expedia in advance that the pool and hot tub were down for maintenance.
We were in town for a Nordic ski race. Location was close to the Rendezvous trailhead. Also right by the entrance to Yellowstone Park where you can ski in the main road or beautiful Riverside trail.
Booked mostly because we wanted a room for a large family (8adults, 2 children) with a pool for the weekend. Upon check-in we were told the pool and hot tub were closed because of fear of roof collapsing, because of snow. Really? A bldg in West Yellowstone, MT not built for snow loads?? Frustrated that we had to load up go to other hotels to use their pools, especially with a 7 mos. old and handicapped adult in our group. But the establishment itself was clean, staff was nice, and even the Murphy bed was comfortable. The seating in the living room area wasn’t enough for a condo that sleeps 8, and neither was it comfortable. But we made it work. One instance was a bit disappointing; on first night, son and wife had fussy baby at midnight. They took baby out of room to walk her to quiet her so as not to wake the rest of us. So they went down to the activity room, which was empty and away from other rooms. However, the lady who was on the night shift, told them they couldn’t stay there, and made them go into the lounge on the 2nd floor. When DIL discovered they didn’t have a room key, she went and asked the front desk if they could get another one. The lady refused, said they needed ID, which of course they hadn’t taken with them. It’s midnight!! DIL gave her their names (which I’d had to write down the names of all occupants in our room at time of check in) but lady refused to look it up, and said she would escort them to the room to get their ID. The whole reason to get another key was so they wouldn’t have to wake any of the others to get back in the room. This lady acted like they had just walked in from the street and were up to no good. DIL had to text me to slide a key under the door. She was furious with the front desk. But despite this and the pool situation, our family made the most of it and enjoyed our stay.
