The Resort
Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort (KBR) is a gem among Kauai hotels and resorts. It has class, style and genuine value alongside the many more expensive choices available on Kauai. KBR is a former Hilton resort renovated and converted into a 4 Star condo/hotel resort. Outrigger Hotels and Resorts recently purchased majority ownership in KBR and manages the resort for the KBR homeowner’s association. They are in the process of continuing renovations, repairs and updates to the property with funds provided by the members of the homeowner’s association.

There are many resorts, hotels and condominiums on Kauai. Unlike most others, that overlook other resorts, hotels and condominiums, Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort overlooks the natural beauty of Hawaii.

The resort is surrounded on the north by a beautifully kept public golf course, and on the south by Nukoli'i Beach Park consisting of only native Hawaiian vegetation (this is the view from the room). To the west are the beginning ranges of the mountains that make up most of Kauai. On the east is the majesty of the Pacific Ocean which is visible from the room’s lanai (See Photos).

The resort’s central location on Kauai’s Coconut Coast fronting on Nukoli’i Beach, a 3-mile long white sand beach, makes it the perfect starting point for day trips and excursions to Kauai’s majestic geographical wonders and a multitude of activities unique to Kauai. It is halfway between Hanalei town and Hanalei Bay on the north shore and Poipu on the south and on the west Waimea Canyon and Port Allen (take off point for Na Pali cruises). The resort is only 3 miles from Kapaa on the north and 3 miles from Lihue on the south, the two biggest towns on Kauai. They both have an abundance of shopping, restaurants and activities.

The resort’s rooms surround a central garden which contains four pools, two hot tubs, waterfalls, a 75 ft water slide and a sand bottom pool surrounded with sand and beach lounges. Overlooking the sand bottom pool and ocean is the Driftwood Bar & Grill. Relax in the sun on the beach lounges, or cool down with a shaved ice, a Hawaiian tradition from Ko Shave Ice and Treats. All this is just a 30 second stroll to the beach and 30 seconds to your room. There is a rock garden island with waterfalls that meet in a lava cavern. In addition, there are two hot-tubs/jacuzzies.

The resort has three onsite restaurants plus Ko-Shave Ice and Treats and a Starbucks:
• Naupaka Terrace, the hotel's signature restaurant, with outdoor seating and ocean view
• Shutters Lounge, with nightly live music, has indoor and outdoor seating with fire pit
• Driftwood Bar and Grill, located in the pool area with ocean view

Check-in time is 3:00 PM / Check-out time is 11:00 AM. If you have an early arrival or late flight, let me know well in advance and I can sometimes arrange for earlier check-ins and later check-outs. Last minutes requests are difficult to honor because cleanings are scheduled well in advance.

The resort charges their guests a resort fee of $64 per day, which includes the parking fee. The resort charges me when I stay and my guests $40 for parking, if you have a car, but you do not have to pay the rest of the resort fee, that’s a $24 per day savings.

The resort has two restrictions; no-smoking except in designated areas and cooking is not allowed in the rooms. However, they do provide access to a microwave in the lobby building, so I provide plates, bowls and utensils for any restaurant leftovers and any cold food or food you might prepare in the resort’s microwave.

The only fee we charge is a $150 cleaning fee which is a part of VRBO’s “All fees included” payment, but we pay the resort’s $100 check-in fee.

The Hawaii tax on visitor accommodations is 17.962% which is also billed with your VRBO payment.

Our Hawaii Tax number is TA-064-042-8544-01

The Room
The room overlooks Nukoli'i Beach Park and has a beautiful ocean view from the 100 square foot lanai (See Photos). The room is in one of the few areas on the resort where you can hear the ocean 24 hours a day without the artificial pool noise in the garden area. You have a tranquil, romantic, direct view from the lanai of the ocean with no distractions. Just the sun, the waves and natural vegetation of Hawaii. The air-conditioned room has a comfortable king bed, a power recliner sofa, a Keurig duo coffee maker (K-cups & carafe), large mini-fridge with freezer, free Wi-Fi and a large smart TV. The bathroom includes a tub with fixed and handheld shower heads. It is appointed with travertine tile and marble countertop. The room has been renovated, carpeted and painted. The room is on the ground floor of building three, so No Stairs or Elevators to slow your 30 second walk to the beach or pools. We have a second room next door (Vrbo# 1811141) if you have a party of more than three. Book early if you want both rooms for your group.

So you don’t have to waste precious vacation time and money finding beach gear, I have provided:
• A wheeled cooler and smaller cooler with shoulder strap
• Two backpack folding beach chairs and umbrellas
• Two sets of snorkel equipment and two boogie boards
• Four beach towels and beach mats.

The Beach
The resort fronts on Nukoli’i Beach, three miles of pristine open white sand beach with no other resorts to disturb your view. While the beach is scenic, it is not considered a swimmable beach as it has quite a bit of coral and lava. However, the coral and lava make for some beautiful breakers. The surf can also be pretty challenging for most. It does have plenty of soft sand for wading; however, it's best to go to one of Kauai's famous beaches for swimming. Lydgate Beach, just north of the golf course, is the closest to the resort and has great facilities for picnicking, a children’s playground and protected beach areas for swimming. You can walk the beach to Lydgate State Park and Beach from the resort, about 2 ½ miles, or drive, about 3 miles. You will also want to visit other popular Kauai beaches which include Poipu Beach, Anini Beach, Kalapaki Beach, Shipwrecks Beach (great hiking trail), Waioli Beach Park on Hanalei Bay and many more.

Mahalo for considering my little piece of paradise for your visit to Kauai

Lovely stay even with all the rain. Ate breakfast everyday at the restaurant and George was our server~we fell in love with him. He was always smiling and so friendly and gave us some great ideas on places to go. All of the staff was very accommodating and friendly.

The room was great, as advertised. The hotel itself could use some fresh paint and love. The lobby was being redone during our stay so there were not many options to hang out during rain etc. the location was central to get around anywhere on the island. Had to pay for parking a rental car which we were unaware of, it was $320 for eights days.

The resort is beautiful. There are a couple of pools and a hot tub. We didn't use these, but appreciated walking on the beach and watching the sunrise from there. The resort's restaurant is excellent! We had dinner and breakfast there twice. The resort has a laid back vibe, staff was excellent.

It feels so difficult to be leaving 3 stars on this properly. I was really looking forward to this stay and have saved all year to come to Kauai and visit. There was a lot things that were unexpected. Although the host gave helpful information about things to do on the island I found it very frustrating finding out the day before we had to pay $40 dollars a day for parking. After tax we paid almost $300 to park our ca for the week not to sound cheap but that was a lot for me I had saved for this trip and we budget everything out to make it work, if I had known sooner I wouldn't have book this property no where on Expedia did it mention a fee. The other reasons I book this property was for the laundry facilities, gym and hot tub/pool. It turns out we were there during construction the laundry facilities and gym were unaccessible and the hot tub and pool were constantly having out of order signs on them there was never a point the staff was apologetic about the any of the being out of order. It was over all just such a disappointment vacation and I feel really emotional and honestly just stress about the money we spent for the stay we actually had to

Michael was an excellent host. He provided detailed local suggestions shortly after booking and communicated through the process. The unit was well appointed with amenities like beach chairs, body boards, cooler and snorkel gear for guest use. We drank our coffee on the lanai each morning watching the water, liked being on the ground level. The resort itself was also great, the pools, hot tubs, tiki bar & restaurant made it relaxing and fun. We would definitely book this again.

Michael was extremely communicative and made sure we were aware of the construction underway on site. The location is great, and even with closures to one of the restaurants and the main lobby, it didn't feel like we were missing anything. The room was comfortable and roomy for the two of us, and the beach was just steps away. Would defintiely stay here again!

Host was very responsive. Minor issue with the door lock but was fixed immediately. The resort is fairly dated and is under construction. This unit is accessible from the backside of the resort and not subject to other reviews that say you have to go up an elevator than down another one. Was disappointed the Adults Only hot tub was out of order and the other one was constantly filled with children.

Host was responsive but ac wasn’t working when we got in and room had musty smell. A/c got fixed and even with it turned off room was freezing. Other issues is just not any space for luggage as closet and room is already mostly full and no resort amenities like changing out towels for the pool is not available without maid bringing by new towels. Fine for a couple day stay but beyond that you are dealing with wet dirty towels.

The place was exactly as described and the host, Michael, was fantastic to work with. Between the information provided in the listing and the emails he sent us, we had a complete understanding of what to expect, the amenities etc. The unit was clean and comfortable and centrally located. We would strongly consider booking this again when we are back in the area next.

Michael is a great host; all through the process communication has been excellent. Michael's description of his unit, the resort and Kauai in general were accurate and helpful. The unit was very clean and well stocked when we arrived. The staff we intereacted with at the resort from valet to check-in to restaurant servers were the most genuinely friendly people I have ever encountered at a resort.

Loved this resort. The location was great, easy acces to main roads and stores. The walk to the beach is 2 min from the pools. Gorgeous view of the beach. The pools and grounds were meticulous and beautiful. Every staff member we interacted with was super friendly. There was live music in the bar Shutters each night. We cant wait to go back.

As advertised, amazing place to stay. I’ve also stayed in another unit within this complex and both were very nice rooms. The beach is 30 seconds from your door and continues quite far in either direction. Centrally located on the island, makes trips to the north shore or west to Kokee state park less than an hour away.

Beautiful property, great room, good communication with owner. We really enjoyed our stay in Kauai. The location of the room was convenient to the airport for arrival, departure and an island helicopter tour. Was also a great location for touring both the South and North sides of the island. Ate many meals there on property; grabbing a quick muffin from the Starbucks in the gift shop in the mornings; poolside lunches at driftwoods, great burgers, fries, poke and club sandwiches; dinner at both the formal restaurant and the lounge. The bed and pillows were super comfy. Room now has a couch instead of the chaise lounge. AC worked well. Automatic light and nightlight in bathroom made getting up in the middle of the night easy. Sitting on the back patio the sound of the ocean was very relaxing. Would definitely book again!

From the moment you drive through the tunnel of beautiful trees, to the meticulous landscaping throughout the resort, your stay will be so worth it. You enter from the green lushness of the outside resort to the pure white walls and floor of the entrance at check in. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. As you walk to your room the grounds are beautifully landscaped. The pools are gorgeous with the lava rock waterfalls and the orange and red contrast of the native plants throughout the center of the pools. In the near distance you can see and hear the roar of the ocean waves. The sunrises are perfect! Our room had all the amenities that we could ask for. Even down to beach chairs, snorkelsand ice chests for picnics or grocery shopping. The lanai has a percect view of the green fields with many local birds hunting for their next meals. The ocean sound is very relaxing from there as well. The bed is a firm mattress. There is very comfortable recliners to take afternoon naps. The restraunt and bar have delicious food. The poolside snack bar has great food as well. Highly recommended the spam breakfast wrap at the poolside snack bar. So delicious!! We higjly recommend this stay. Aloha

Would rebook this vacation again in a heartbeat. Property manager was very communicative; provided ample information with follow up emails and was prompt to responses which was much appreciated. It was not as close to the ocean as expected, we couldn't hear the waves very well as described, but very private with ideal location. 100% recommend.

Our family of three adults had a great stay at KBR. We booked Michael’s two rooms. Beds were comfortable, and we slept soundly without noise bothering us. There is a portable fan in the closet if needed. Room was clean, tv’s, mini fridge, coffee pots etc, and air conditioning worked well! We made good use of the beach friendly supplies owner provides in the closet: 2 snorkel sets, 2 beach chairs, one umbrella, one large and one small cooler (I believe)!, towels and 2 beach mats per room. Staff at the resort were all super friendly and helpful. Amenities at the resort are beautiful: pool, beach (not swimmable, but great for relaxing etc.), restaurants, Starbucks etc. Parking is easy to do, but a smidge of a walk from the room. I believe we paid 40 a day, plus tax. Michael, the owner, was very responsive and had lots of great suggestions. Communication with him was easy and fast. He has properly represented his property in his listing description! KBR is centrally located, but not immediately next to anything, so renting a car is really a must, in my opinion. We enjoyed exploring the island during the day and coming back in the evening to enjoy the pool and hot tub. We would stay here again if travels bring us back to the beautiful island of Kauai!

This was an excellent place to stay if you plan to visit the whole island, as you’re about halfway between Poipu and Princeville. There are many restaurants within a few minutes drive. The room was very comfortable and the check in process was very simple. Since this room was located at a hotel you also have the opportunity to enjoy the hotel amenities such as the pool and hot tub. The host sent some restaurant and activity recommendations prior to our arrival which was very much appreciated. Overall, this was a great place to stay and I would definitely stay again!
