Rather than having to enter and exit through a big box hotel, it was so nice to come and go as if I lived in that neighborhood!
We enjoyed staying in this rental. It was pretty basic but fit our needs well--we were visiting family a few miles away. The lot is very attractive. The sauna & hot tub were located on the deck of the other apartment, which seemed like it might be awkward to use (we didn't try). On our last night, before an early departure the next morning, the lock wouldn't open with our number. We contacted the Vacasa office at 10 pm and received excellent assistance that got us into our rental. We really appreciated your representative who was patient and helpful, intent on providing us a solution.
The Goods: The location of the space was located not far from where my wife was receiving training to be a better pediatric physical therapist. It was close to an inclusive park/playground where my son was able to interact with the surroundings and other kids. The host/staff were very responsive. The flowers and ambiance of the outdoor area were very inviting. The hot tub and sauna looked great, though not getting a chance to use them. The Not So Goods: ANTS...There were many ants crawling in the bathroom and on the walls and floor of the main room/sitting area. While traps were laid out, because of the known issue, they did little to thwart or halt the persistent presence or varying size and types of ants. We had to be careful with the traps and move some due to our crawling infant. While killing one in the bathroom, my wife found another crawling on her. The staff/hots did respond by providing more liquid traps. Not really a good solution, but the effort was there, though misguided and unaffecting. The kitchenette and supporting refrigerator were somewhat adequate if you plan to eat out for nearly all meals. but, having two small children and having made a 8hr drive from San Diego left little room for ice packs and food storage for a family of four. Having a hot plate or slightly larger refrigerator would have been more helpful and supported our needs better. Overall: If you plan to just taste wine (or beer) and eat out for nearly all your meals this place is great and then relax in the evening or early morning in the suana and/or hot tub as a weekend getaway this place is great. On shot notice and for the price cost most other lodging options, this was a better option. Though had we stayed in a hotel, we would probably have ad access to the hotel's refrigerators to refreeze ice packs used to keep breast milk and food for children cold during long road trips. Also, having just one (smaller) TV in the lone bedroom did force us to engage one another more. But, being able to relax on the couch and see a movie in the evening would have been nice.
Very nice spot, on a busy street, but walkable to shops, coffee etc. Loved the artwork and garden.
My friends and I were very comfortable in this cozy spot. Loved the hot tub.
Bruce was a lovely host and this home Was clean, cute and perfect for a girls wine country trip! Highly recommend
Bruce, the host, is a cool, welcoming gentleman that helps give the place character. This is not to insinuate that you won’t have your full privacy as I only met him once briefly. Conveniently located, it is easy to park and unload. I had a small issue that the management company was very responsive and reasonable to fix. I recommend.
Everything was wonderful. It looked just like the picture except better. The hot tub was to die for and the gardens were just lovely. It was like a fairy tale. Just loved every minute
Great home, everything was clean and new; attention to detail was amazing. Every bit as cool as the photos look. I will definitely be back.
I was really looking forward to staying at the Hummingbird Garden Retreat. When I arrived, the space was clean and well-cared for, and the kitchenette had a nice selection of tea, which I loved; the garden is gorgeous, and the hot tub and sauna are also lovely and well-cared for. However... there is a strong foul odor in the rental that hits you as soon as you open the door - I'm really surprised none of the Vacasa reviews mentioned this (though I later found some reviews on Expedia for this same property that mention the bad smell). A somewhat fishy sharp musty odor (my first thought was old cat lady?). It wasn't mold or mildew or any other allergen that I could identify (I normally have bad allergies but was fine), but the smell was strong and distracting, and didn't dissipate for the two nights I was there. The heating vents didn't produce this smell, and the linens were clean and fresh scented, so I can only assume the smell is baked into the walls and flooring. I tried opening the door for a bit and put out plates of ground coffee to combat the smell. That helped a little, but the smell was still there after I closed the door. Won't stay again unless/until the place receives a deep clean to get rid of the odor. Which is too bad, because literally everything else about the place was lovely!
