Puako Pau Hana, A Restful, Private Retreat located steps from the water!!

All around great place to stay, with lovely hosts to help if you need it.There were just two of us, so there was more than enough room to spread out and relax.One thing I missed when booking, is that there is no stove or regular oven in this unit. However, it is equipped with nice substitutes, so it really didn’t affect our stay at all.We enjoyed the location close to the end of the road, and loved the many access points to the water. The nearby general store was fun to visit, and we found ourselves there each day buying drinks, ice cream (delicious), and even a yummy “homemade” style frozen dinner. They also have sushi and pizza, but we were never there at the right time to try.If we have the opportunity to visit the Big Island again, we’d be delighted to find that this special spot in Puako is available for our dates.

The House looked exactly like it did in the photos. We had everything we needed. The neighborhood was quiet and had excellent access to the shoreline.

We had a lovely stay at PPH. We especially loved the garden setting with lots of geckos and birds. The friendliness of our hosts made us feel welcomed. The portable burner and oven worked like a charm. The location is top notch— right across the street from a great place to watch the sunset. And walking distance to THE snorkeling spot. Highly recommend!!

We love staying at this beautiful Puako home. This was our 3rd time staying here and love the location, which is directly across the street from a very serine beach with turtles. The hosts communicate promptly and are very helpful.

Beautiful place in a beautiful spot north of Kona. Overall everything was really good. We had one mishap where our kids used the pool in front of the space we rented. It was totally innocent and we did not realize that access to pool was not part of the equation. The gate is about 3.5 feet high, there is no sign, the gate was unlocked, and it was right in front of the place. Our kids jumped in and the owner completely lost it. We apologized and never had another interaction with the owner, which seemed odd, but Insispect renting half your house is at times a bit of a pain. We would stay again, clearly not use the pool, and loved the location and amenities. It was quite a splurge for us, so we were a bit bummed by the single, short interaction we had. We totally get why the pool was not included (liability), but we’re surprised by the intensity of the response. We do appreciate the space they have put together. 100% better than any resort.

A real gem. Jan and Johnny are wonderful hosts. The house has everything you need and is very spacious. Looking forward to staying with them again.

We have been coming to Puako and this particular rental for over 30 years. It’s our happy spot on the island and the first thing I say upon arrival is that it’s good to be back home. If you value excellent hosts, quiet days and nights, the best waves and fish tacos, Puako and the immediate surrounding area might just be your next great vacation. The rental is always impeccably clean and has everything you will need. The neighbors have become dear friends over the years and when the air and the water are both 80 degrees, who can complain?

We enjoyed our stay, the house is spacious and clean. We appreciate that beach items like body boards and umbrella were made available to guests. The location is great as it is close to some of the best beaches the island offers (Hapuna, Waikalea). The beach in front of the house is full of turtles and tide pools. There is also a general store close by. We liked to go to Foodland to get poke before hitting the beaches.Definitely recommended!

This is a great quiet location away from the big resorts but close enough if you want their beaches or restaurants.

We had a very relaxing wonderful stay at Puako Pao Hana. Great neighborhood, snorkel beaches nearby. Defiwill book here again!

We absolutely loved our time here! The beach across is the street was a little rocky for our youngest swimmer but there is a beautiful sandy beach just 8 min north and the beach across the street is still great for exploring tide pools. The rental property is very comfortable for four although my kids were annoyed I was making them share a bed. It was well stocked with towels and other supplies. They have some beach supplies available for use (three chairs, boogie boards, etc.). We liked that the house is a little bit away from the busier resort areas. Highly recommend staying here!

Location, location, location!! Such a beautiful spot on the island with beach access right across the street! Beach 69 is only a few minutes north of the house, and it’s the BEST! The beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, snorkel gear, cooler, and cooler tote bags made our beach days very pleasant! Plus the Manuela’s Malsadas food truck is parked at the intersection of Puako Beach Dr and the highway every day. Mmmmmmm. The home itself was just right for our family of 3 adults. The Nuwave cooktops, outdoor grill, and toaster oven were plenty to cook meals on. The AC kept the bedrooms cool, and the super huge fans in the living and dining room kept those areas enjoyable also. (It’s just plain HOT there, so this was essential to us.) There is a great collection of books to read and a couple board games as well. The backyard lanai has a huge rod for hanging towels and suits to dry. The outdoor shower is fabulous also! I did not realize this was a shared property when I booked it, but don’t let that dissuade you. We never felt awkward or lost our sense of privacy. This was our second visit to this wonderful property. We love the location and easy access to the water. Fun to see turtles daily and enjoyed the sunsets. The house is well stocked and very comfortable. We enjoyed the backyard as well. Great place to hang out! We will definitely return. Mahalo!!

We had 14 days of comfort and lots of beach time. Cooler and beach chairs were much appreciated as many other places we’ve stayed don’t have them. Doesn’t have a built in stove or oven but the appliances worked well for both. Host was attentive to our needs and brought us apple bananas and flowers from the yard. Quiet and relaxing (except for the fun sounds of the kitties playing upstairs, which made us smile. Thank you!

Always the perfect place to enjoy old Hawaii. The gardens are beautiful and the location is right by all our favorite beaches.

Jan's place is amazing. Well laid out with lots of space both indoors and outdoors. Very clean and welcoming. Jan was an absolute pleasure to communicate with. She definitely cares that people staying are well hosted.The house is located in a magical area. Turtles right out the front and excellent snorkeling just a short walk away. We can't wait to return. This was our third time staying at the Puako house. As always , we were delighted. The house is tastefully decorated, and very comfortable and quiet in its garden setting. The hosts, Jan and Johnny, are friendly folks who are always welcoming. A wonderful experience

What a wonderful property and location. Jan is a delight to work with. The house is perfect for 2 couples because it’s laid out in 2 wings. The house interior and exterior are lovely and fully stocked. The furniture and beds are extremely comfortable . We lacked for nothing. We can’t wait to come back.

Great location and very clean.

We’ve stayed at this property for over 25 years….year after year. That probably says more than anything else I can put into words. We love this town, this home, the homeowners and all our neighbors. We spend all our days swimming and sleep well at night……it works out for us.

Great launch place for North, South, East and West activities. Peaceful if you want to just read, rest , and walk locally

The hosts have thought of everything. A slice of domestic bliss on the otherwise resort-oriented Kohala Coast. Beautiful and spacious apartment and yard with a private entrance and private outdoor shower in front for rinsing off after beach excursions. They’ve also provided everything you need for a day at the beach, including body boards and kids life vests.
