Stone pathways lead to the viewing area (overlooking the city), the picnic table and hammock (for lunch in the great outdoors) or the natural canopy park bench (deep breath as the sun goes down). Step directly outside your door to enjoy a large, private deck, complete with outdoor seating and twinkle lights; the perfect place to relax with a morning cup of coffee as the deer stroll by. When the surrounding scrub-oak are in full growth, they proved a natural, private courtyard as well as secret garden passageways along the stone paths.

Some Helpful Things to Know Before You Book

-To help ensure your stay at Black Bear Chateau is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, here are a few details to be aware of before you arrive:

-Access: Guests should be able to safely go up and down two flights of stairs to reach the private entrance to the Chateau. Take your time — you’re on mountain time now.

-Altitude: Colorado Springs sits at an elevation of 6,035 feet above sea level. If you’re visiting from lower elevations, give yourself a little time to adjust and take things slowly on arrival.

-Weather & Travel: The Colorado weather can be full of surprises — summer may bring the occasional hailstorm, while winter often brings snow and ice. During the colder months, we recommend a vehicle with all-wheel or four-wheel drive for peace of mind.

-Your Space: Black Bear Chateau occupies the private, locked-off lower level of a spacious 5,500 sq. ft. home. The host family resides on the upper two levels, but your area is completely private, with your own entrance, sound barriers, and secured access. You can come and go freely, and if you need anything at all, your hosts are just a text away.

What a fantastic stay. Great hosts. Great locations. It was nice to sit outside under the canopy after a long day of adventures. Very relaxing. Seen 2 small herds of deer, 9 wild turkeys and a bear. Wonderful experience we hated to leave.

The neighborhood is beautiful with views of Cheyenne Mountain and backyard nature. We saw lots of turkeys and several deer in the backyard and through the neighborhood. Everything was clean and comfortable with lots of games and movies if you want to stay inside, and beautiful outdoor spaces if you want to be outside. The hosts were very hospitable!

We had such a wonderful stay at Black Bear Chateau. The setting is peaceful and surrounded by trees, yet still just a short drive to everything in Colorado Springs. We loved seeing deer, turkeys, and rabbits visit the property—it made the mornings and evenings especially relaxing. The guesthouse is rustic, very clean, and cozy—just right for a mountain getaway. It’s a two-story walk down to the Chateau, but since we came to hike and explore the area, we didn’t mind at all. The kitchen setup is unique: there’s no traditional oven or stovetop, but the Ninja Foodi and outdoor gas grill worked perfectly for us. We enjoyed making bacon and eggs each morning in the Foodi and grilling outside every evening. Relaxing on the covered patio after a day out was another highlight.Mary Louise is an excellent hostess. The handwritten card and snacks waiting for us when we arrived were so thoughtful, and she was always kind and responsive.Overall, this was the perfect home base for our trip, and we’d be happy to stay here again on our next visit to Colorado Springs.

Beautiful property with frequent sightings of animals like deer, turkey, squirrels near the door step. Animal food was provided as part of the stay, this was the first time my kid fed the deers and she was so excited about it. We enjoyed our stay here and the owners were very accommodating.

Super nice place, beautiful location and just as beautiful of a host - so friendly, thoughtful and welcoming! All the comforts you need on a trip, as well as some special features that just made this chateau unique. We even encountered some baby turkey and got to feed some friendly deer! Highly recommend!

Our stay here was perfect. Black Bear Chateau had everything we needed. This is the basement of the host's lovely home and is beautiful, cozy and comfortable. Mary Louise was a wonderful host. We were welcomed with a tray of snacks, bags of treats to give the local critters, notebooks with with information about the place, local attractions and places to eat. We greatly appreciated the extra things that made our stay so pleasant. I highly recommend this place and hope that we can return one day.

We've been coming to CoSprings for about 4 years now to visit my daughter. We had been staying at another property but it wasn't available this year. We chose Black Bear Chateau and we can tell you for certain this is our new place in CS. Mary Louise and Rick were amazing hosts. The location of the home at the base of the Cheyenne Mts was exactly what we love and the amount of wildlife around their place was so fun to enjoy (even a brief black bear sighting the first night). Within minutes of the Broadmoor, downtown area, Manitou and other great locations. IT'S PERFECT!

My family returned to stay at this property for our second year in a row. When we pulled in it felt like just yesterday that we had left and returned home from last year’s family vacation. The place was as clean as ever and we could tell the owners had done little things to keep the place fresh. Our little girls got to watch and interact with the deer, turkeys, and other forest animals in the yard. Amazing neighborhood, amazing hosts, and an amazing place to make memories that last a lifetime. Thanks Mary Louise and family for another great year at the Black Bear Chateau!!

I cannot express enough what a wonder week we had in Colorado Springs. The property was absolutely gorgeous. We were greeted on our arrival by a pack of turkeys roaming the front yard. We were even more pleasantly surprised by 4 deer cooling off in the shade in the backyard mere feet from the entrance to our home for the week. The check-in process was easy and instructions were thorough. The space is wide open and sprawling in the main area. The master bedroom was perfect for me and my wife. My son slept on the pullout couch. The daybed was comfortable to him but he liked the size of the couch better. The kitchen was extremely handy for snacks and lunch-like meals. The view from the backyard really is gorgeous. The location was perfect for our adventures. Pikes peak, white water rafting and a run up to Denver were all east drives. My wife and I agreed we had the best week of our lives with our 19 yo son. After 30 years together that is saying something. We would recommend this property and our hosts to anyone and everyone. The host family was exceedingly kind and gracious and the pictures of the property, while beautiful, actually fall short of what and amazing home it is. Thanks again for a wonderful place to stay. We hope to be able to do it again soon.

I had the pleasure of spending the Christmas holidays at Black Bear Chateu in Colorado Springs. The home was beautiful and my host, Mary Louise, had decorated my home with Christmas lights and decorations which made me feel right at home. The property has everything you could ask for including bedroom, kitchen, televisions in the living room and bedroom and deer and turkeys that visited every morning. There are also many games and books plus a foosball table to keep the youngsters entertained. This is the premier location in Colorado Springs as it was in the mountains but only 10 minutes from the Broadmoor Resort and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and 15 minutes from North Cheyenne Canyon and Garden of the Gods. Our daughters and grandchildren live in Colorado Springs, and I hope to stay at this home whenever I go out to visit. Many thanks to Mary Louise for brightening my holidays and making the trip perfect..

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black Bear Chateau! There was wildlife out the back door every morning and evening. Our little girls (5&7) wanted to walk around the trails in the back yard every chance they could get. The neighborhood is safe and quiet while still being conveniently located to some of Colorado Springs best attractions. Make sure to read the description of the listing to ensure it fits your family’s needs. My wife and I had never stayed in a VRBO connected to someone’s home but this was not at all an issue. The rental is the whole bottom floor. It’s very quiet and private. The host family is extra respectful of guests. They do a great job of running the vacation rental and you can tell they have put in the effort to make the place unique and special. There are lots of toys and games for kids of all ages included. Don’t worry if your kiddos leave theirs back at home. For the value this place is really hard to beat! The next time we schedule a trip to the area this will be the first place we check for availability👍

We loved our stay. There was more than enough room for my family of four, and the kids loved to be able to walk around the property and be one with nature. I don't think we have ever been so close to wild deer as we were during the time we spent there. If we ever come back to Colorado Springs, we would definitely stay here again.
