Snorkeling at Kahalu'u Beach, Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau Bay. Deep sea fishing, diving and night charters start from Honokohau Harbor. Scenic Valleys in Kohala and along the Hamakua Coast. Waterfalls on the East side of the island.A day trip south takes you to Punaluu Black Sands Beach, the cliffs off South Point and Green Sands Beach (Mahana Bay). Perfect getaway. Everything you need plus a cool mountain breeze. This host is amazing, reaches out with answers and responds almost immediately. We hated to leave, it’s a “peace” of heaven on Earth.

Really well organized, very clean, and welcoming property. We did have a hard time finding it at night but host was very gracious and provided very detailed instructions. It's not their fault we arrived late at night and couldn't see well. We would love to stay there again!

We arrived just after the Kona Low storm had passed. Had a bit of difficulty locating the driveway in the dark but a gracious neighbor showed us the way. Awoke the next morning to no hot water but the owner quickly responded and the issue was remedied. The house was very beautiful with all the amenities needed for a great stay. The extra touch with coffee and snacks was greatly appreciated. Watching the sunset from the front porch was worth a million dollars and made the stay a memorable occasion. Would recommend this place in a heartbeat and would love to return someday. Mahalo

Host was great. We had a minor request which was handled immediately. The place was very clean, quaint, and uniquely different than staying down in busy Alii Dr.

This place gave us a true old Hawaii feel. The road to the home was rural and authentic. Away from the crowds, yet close to everything. Very clean, fully stocked and so much better than a hotel. Have to say Diesel the dog gave us quite the welcome. The bed and pillows super comfortable.

This is a working coffee plantation. ATV’s bomb passed your window starting at 5:30 a.m. all day back and forth until 6 or 7 p.m.

The toaster remains broken. A couple tray tables would be nice as there is no place to eat dinner. It is no longer a quiet place as our sleep was disturbed every morning at 4:15 am, 5:00 am, 5:30 am by the loudest diesel truck I’ve ever heard, and headlights shining in the bedroom window. The other unit no longer rents to tourists, but is instead rented to a working farm family with little children. Their noisy diesel truck and gator vehicle come and go all day.

I really enjoyed the drive to the house, a very authentic country road that winds straight up the mountain from Kona. The dog is very friendly and we enjoyed his presence. The place stayed very cool for sleeping.

Only negative/be-aware-of first: it can get hot and muggy in the afternoons. Don't leave the windows open hoping for a breeze, we figured out that leaving them shut after the early morning kept some of the overnight coolness in the house. We appreciated the super comfortable mattress and luxurious pillows and slept well here. We saved a lot of money on our trip by using their kitchen and their ice chest to pack lunches. It was nice that they provided your first day's coffee, sugar, oatmeal, some snack bars, beach towels, and washer/dryer. This place is not far from anything as the crow flies, but is way up the mountainside from the coast. The road to the house is in good condition (our little Toyota Corolla rental had no trouble), but can be a bit of a nail biter if you're not used to such steep roads that go straight up/down. We got used to it and would stay again, and the payoff is a lush semi-wild farmland surrounding you and a view down to the ocean below.

We booked this as a 1 night stay for our trip home out of Kona. It’s clean/comfy and has a nice little lanai where we enjoyed a cold drink as the sunset over the ocean on our last night in Hawaii. It’s a perfect spot for a couple with room for a +1 if needed.

We absolutely loved our stay at the charming Holualoa country home. The lanai boasts a stunning view of the ocean and sunset. While downtown Kona was sweltering in the heat, it was nice and cool on the mountain. I miss hearing the coqui frogs at night! The hosts leave lots of beach gear for your use - beach chairs, an umbrella, a boogie board, snorkels, a cooler, beach towels, etc., which is incredibly nice for those of us who fly in! I would not recommend a low-setting car for the drive up the mountain, though. You'll bottom out on some of the potholes.
