West River, Maryland
Our charming carriage house, nestled in privacy on 42 acres, offers a relaxing Adirondack-type getaway for up to 5 guests. Just17 miles from Annapolis and 3 miles from the historic waterfront community of Galesville, the carriage house is close to all the action that Maryland's capital city has to offer, but is tucked away in the woodlands. Our carriage house most definitely offers the best of both worlds!
The first floor boasts an open concept floor plan which includes a living room with a queen sleeper sofa, dining area, and a nicely equipped kitchen. Please note, there is a 4-burner electric cooktop and a convection microwave oven. The wood burning stove in the living room keeps things cozy during winter, while the backyard fire pit brings those vibes outdoors in the summer and fall. For the pianist in the group, we even have a baby grand piano on the first level.
**Please Note** There are 2 small dogs on the property that stay within the confines of the main house.
Upstairs, the second level consists of a sitting area, a large bedroom which features a queen bed and a sleeping nook with a twin bed. The bathroom as well as the washer and dryer are also located on the second level.
This serene carriage house is a sweet surprise as you wind down the dirt and gravel drive and is perfect for Naval Academy events, getaway weekends, boat show events, family vacations, and more.
Additional Info:
The Carriage House is approximately 1800’ from Owensville Road and about 500’ from the entrance to Hole in The Wall Farm, just past a large modern barn. The Carriage House presents a spectacular view at night with well-lit landscape lighting. There are 2 terriers looking out for the property. The owner, available most of the time, is more than happy to socialize with guests and their dogs as well. The thermostat and lighting are intuitive, generally any questions are a phone call or text away.

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights. It was very quiet (*see note below), probably due to the fact that it sits well off the main road and is surrounded by trees. Feels like the middle of nowhere but is actually a short drive to restaurants and shops. We were unfamiliar with the area, but Google Maps led us directly to the house. The cottage is as described. It was very comfortable for 2 people. The downstairs has one big room that emcompasses the den, dining, and kitchen. Upstairs has the bedroom, bathroom, and washer/dryer. The kitchen lacks a full size refrigerator, but does contain a small fridge (larger than a dorm room size) and a small freezer. However, since the cottage is advertised for couples or small groups, this is adequate for said size. The owner's house is just next door, which would come in handy were there issues (we did not have any). *Note: the quiet was only interrupted by the two small dogs that greeted us when we entered or exited. Jack Russell (I think), they will bark at you. They are contained by an electric fence, but that boundary runs very close to the cottage parking area (maybe 10-12 ft). I believe they go indoors at night. We were not bothered by their barking (they ceased once we went inside) but it's something to note. Overall, our experience was very good. We would choose to stay here again.
Prospective guests should know more details about the carriage house than mentioned in the vrbo listing. 1) The carriage house lies 0.4 miles from the paved road down a narrow unpaved driveway, past a commercial building and two 'No Trespassing' and one 'Beware of Dog' sign. Some guests may be put off by the entrance. 2) The owner's two feisty terrier dogs are constrained by an underground wire within 50 feet of the carriage house. Our elderly black lab did not consider them friendly. 3) Very dark at night. Light switches are not labeled, and the thermostat lacks instructions. Guests should plan to arrive before dark and reserve time to figure them out. We were fortunate to meet the owner who explained things, but other guests might not. 4) The kitchen lacks a dishwasher or even a drying rack for hand-washed dishes. Also lacks a toaster. Bottom line: If prospective guests are given the full picture before they reserve and pay for the carriage house, then they are less likely to be disappointed.
This home was way out of the way Definitely a hidden place. I should of brought terro for ants Otherwise the lil dogs and ants everything was fine
Wonderful place for chilling out away from everywhere deep in the woods. Clean and very nicely decorated.
Stayed here to be in between DC and Annapolis. Nice retreat out of the city but still close to Metro and freeway. Very clean home with easy checkin and checkout.
Great cottage in the middle of the woods, but close to everything! Our pups loved walking the property. Very comfortable place.
Lovely get away in a delightful house. Fun recommendation at Pirate Cove restaurant, which was dog friendly. There was no kindling available to start a fire, but there was wood for the wood stove. There was no oven in the well equipped kitchen.
