We specialise in group accommodation for 12-17 people. Located just five minutes from Mansfield township, Kilmuir Country Retreat offers unrivalled privacy and tranquillity in an historic, relaxing, rural setting from yesteryear.

Built in the 1950's as shearers' quarters, the accommodation has been extensively renovated and updated with modern conveniences. An undercover alfresco dining area has been added.

Minimum group size is 12 adults or equivalent tariff. We book in onlyone group at a time and do not take pets.

The 8 bedrooms are
1 X queen - 1 X queen sized bed
2 X doubles - 1 X double bed per room
4 X twin share - 2 X single beds per room
1 X triple - 1 X single bed and 1 X single bunk

Tariff includes all linen, towels, face washers, soaps, electric blankets, heaters in winter and fans in summer.

The triple room adjoins the queen room with a lockable door between the two rooms. All bedrooms open onto the verandas. One double and one of the twin share bedrooms can be accessed from the lounge as well.

There are four new toilets and four new showers. All shower bases are hip baths.

The lounge has a TV, couches, coffee table and a gas faux-fire.

The adjoining kitchen/dining room is fully self contained and equipped. It has a large, new gas stove and oven, microwave, fridges, freezer, dishwasher and a walk in pantry. Crockery, cutlery, cookware, tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper are provided.

There is a drying room for skiers' use in winter.

The under cover, alfresco dining area easily seats 17 people. It features an overhead fan for warmer weather, gas heaters for cooler times, a six burner barbecue and stainless steel bench. Views across the lawns, gardens and farmland to Mt Battery provide a picturesque, tranquil and relaxing backdrop.

Mansfield township, dress shops, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, The Great Victorian Rail Trail, Mansfield Golf Course and Samaria State Park are only five minutes away. For mountain bikers, the Epic Trail and downhill trails at Mt Buller are easily accessible.

Lake Nillahcootie and Mansfield Zoo are a ten minute drive, while it is 15 minutes to Lake Eildon. Horse riding is available nearby. Kilmuir Country Retreat is the ideal base for exploring the region's mountains, lakes, rivers, state and national parks, local wineries, and the winter ski fields at both Mt Buller and Mt Stirling.

Kilmuir is an historic sheep and cattle property. Eighty acres was purchased at the first auction of Mansfield farmland on June 7, 1854, for one pound per acre. Over the following 130 years purchase of adjoining land saw the property grow to over 1,000 acres.

A considerable workforce was employed to work on the farm. Many of the men and some of their families lived at Kilmuir in workers' cottages. The current accommodation was originally the shearers' quarters.

For your added security, this property is only managed in Australia and we never request payments to be made to overseas bank accounts.

We were well cared for, a caring host, goes out of way to assist guests, be it for sightseeing, walking tracks, local markets and even let us know in advance shops opening times. Kilmuir is fantastic, a historical place and if you are keen host will assist you in increasing your knowledge of area and its history. the place is calm and quiet with birds and occasional farm dog to keep you company. I will return.

We stayed for 2 nights over the New year weekend and we definitely loved this place for its rustic charm. The host Erica was a very nice lady that made our stay very comfortable also we were allowed to check in early and check out late, commucation was excellent during the booking process. Great outdoor entertainment area, huge kitchen and bathroom facilities. Only minutes from town centre. Peaceful and surrounded by nature. Definitely be back.

Had a group of 15 and Erica made us all welcomed. The layout is well suited for a large group and with a large outdoor undercover area with a BBQ it easily caters the group. The location was fantastic, being only 5 minutes out of town and have the beautiful gardens and space to move around.

We (group of mature ladies) had a wonderful stay at Kilmuir. The property is well set up for a large group and is in a beautiful rural location but also close to town. We were worried about being cold but the heating was fantastic and the beds and rooms were super cosy. Erica is a lovely, welcoming, helpful host. We would be happy to stay again.

We absolutely loved staying at Erica's place for 3 nights over New Years Eve. Erica and her husband live on the property, just two sheds back from where the rental is so she is always nearby if you need anything and was an absolutely lovely host. She popped by each morning to provide fresh towels and empty the bins, as well as tell us about good spots to visit in the local area. We had some music decks set up out the back which she thought was great and couldn't hear our music on NYE, in return we of course made sure to be respectful of her very well kept property and surrounds although it is very remote and private! It has a lot of interesting history as a wool shearer's accommodation which Erica told us about. Her dog Ziggy came to visit us for pats a lot too! Extremely well equipped with BBQ and all the kitchen equipment and appliances you could ever need including 2 fridges and huge pantry. Outdoor area was gorgeous with a lovely verandah and fan. Everything was extremely clean. Plenty of space for car parking. I'd definitely recommend visiting Goughs Bay and Delatite Winery in the area. Thank you Erica!
