Walnut Lodge, 1 bedroom traditional Gite in rural location

Very nice stay, just what was needed after living out of suitcases for a week touring northern France. Taller guests need to be a bit careful to cope with the stairs and low beams upstairs to avoid bumping their heads.

We stayed at Walnut Lodge from 22nd to 29th July 2025 while attending a wedding at a nearby château just 5 minutes away—and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. The location was absolutely ideal, tucked away in a peaceful setting yet just 10 minutes from La Roche-Posay, home to an incredible spa, casino, and plenty of local shops and restaurants serving fantastic food.There’s also a lovely market held twice a week that’s well worth a visit.Our hosts, Lisa and Bryan, were exceptional from start to finish. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their beautiful home and gîtes—set against a stunning backdrop—were truly a sight for sore eyes. The pool was perfect (when the rain held off!), and what really made our stay extra special was their offer to transport us to and from the wedding, which was a massive help and so appreciated.And of course, we can’t forget Frankie, their friendly French Bulldog, who greeted us with a wag and a warm welcome every time we returned.If you’re looking for a peaceful, unique, and welcoming experience in the French countryside, we’d recommend Lisa and Bryan’s Walnut Lodge again and again. From the comfort and charm of the property to the kindness and hospitality of our hosts, we truly couldn’t fault our stay.Top tip: Make sure you have a car to explore the surrounding area with ease.– Michael & Jade

Wonderful week of holiday at the Walnut Lodge with our dog. The owner, Lisa, was very friendly and helpful, giving us many adresses to try. We had a lovely week enjoying the house and surroundings with our dog.

Lisa’s lodge is a very charming place, extremely well equipped, with also a beautiful garden and pool to enjoy. Lisa is a very sweet and welcoming lady who makes the stay even more comfortable. I recommend it highly !

We had a great time in this lovely logis near Pleumartin. Lisa is a great host, very attentive, responsive and informative. The logis had everything we needed. The constant rain prevented us from fully enjoying the beautiful property and the pool as much as we would have liked it. Lots of things to explore around the area, and a bit further (Loire chateaux and so on).

As advertised, clean & relaxing property, Lisa was very welcoming, wish I could have stayed longer.

We had a superb time, out sightseeing all day, then coming home to a nice swim in the lovely pool, evening tea on the Gite Veranda, loved it. The owner’s Lisa and Brian were very friendly and welcoming, have a good knowledge of the local area and pointed us to some excellent places to visit. 5 Star. Regards Si n Bee xx

A beautiful, and superbly presented property. Spotlessly clean and in a Gorgeous countryside position. The Owners were consummate professional and made us feel at home immediately. A very highly recommended place to stay.

We had a great time at this property, Lisa is lovely and we made use of her pool which had nice sun loungers for sitting in the sun. The location is great, we enjoyed walking into Pluemartin (along the road but it is not busy) and would definitely recommend the boulangerie there and the little market. Also great for visiting La Roche Possay and other lovely small towns in the area.

Everything was fantastic. From Lisa’s communication, to the location and scenery. We stayed here for 5 nights and felt very much at home. We had privacy a plenty, but Lisa (and Bryan) were always on hand should we need anything. The Gîtes itself was cosy, with a well equipped kitchen and beautiful terrace with a BBQ. The pool was also beautiful even if the weather meant it didn’t get as much use as we’d hoped. Pleumartin is only 1km away and very quiet, but there are 2 very picturesque towns in Angles-Sur-l’anglin and La Roche Posay only 10 minutes away. We’d highly recommend staying here for peaceful break in a gorgeous part of the world!
