Stayed Aug 8, 2025We enjoyed our stay at the Depot Cottage. It’s a charming historic home, conveniently located within walking distance to everything we needed. The house had cute decorations and the bedding was very comfortable. Our dogs loved the fenced-in backyard. We’d definitely stay here again. Heather was wonderful to communicate with.

Stayed Jun 20, 2025Spacious home with antique and train-themed decor. Communication with host was timely and we were able to arrange early check-in. Living room AC kept us cool! Train themed wall in dining room is very cool, and the huge dining table had plenty of room to spread out. Wish we could have seen the suspended train run but it was apparently off its track. Comfortable beds, all 3 bedrooms are upstairs along with the bathroom. Bedside tables would be helpful in the main bedroom along with a bench or luggage rack to keep bags off the floor. Also switches on the bedside lighting would be great to turn lamps on / off (vs plugging & unplugging). Bathroom walls, door and molding could use a deep clean or fresh coat of paint. Nice touches for our 4-legged family member include fenced backyard, water and food bowls and a dog bed. Additionally, the separate mudroom / entryway with lots of hooks, a bench and place to drop shoes were very helpful.

Stayed Apr 25, 2025This property was just what we needed, a place to stay with our dogs while we attended an out-of-town graduation. Beds were comfy and the cottage was nice with good drinking water (not well water).Only issues were no door directly to the backyard (so you still have to leash the dogs to let them out), no hand rail on the stairs (my mom couldn't safely stay here), quirky design (shower door blocks the towel rack when open) and the lighting challenge of an older home (no light switch in main bedroom, have to find/use lamps). But these little things didn't amount to much. The cottage is cleverly decorated with model trains and walking distance to a promising downtown. We were able to get a good breakfast and coffee to fuel us up before we left for the day, and the big fenced in backyard was appreciated by our two dogs.

Stayed Dec 13, 2024We stayed 4 nights in mid-December. The house was located near family that we were visiting. The house is charming with lots of train theme and antique décor. There was even a small Christmas tree and some holiday decorations. The master bed was very comfortable. There was a back yard that my small dog could use off leash once I figured out how to get the gate open. The home has a short driveway which was too small for our full size pickup truck, we unfortunately had to park in the road and force the neighbors to drive around us. Also, be aware that if you have any mobility issues with stairs that the access to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and front porch are both staircases without hand rails and the back steps are higher than normal.

Stayed Dec 6, 2024I am a native of Dowagiac. My 2 adult daughters, 3 small grandchildren (4, 2, 5 months) and I came back to town for a family baby shower and I knew that I wanted the convenience of being in town. Coming home is always a needed thing for me. Heather's space was perfect. We came in right after a major snow fall and it set the tone when we arrived to see the twinkling lights and icicles and the porch glowing in the darkness. We arrived in time to see the Christmas parade, and the children loved being able to see trains come and go from the windows. Vintage, historical, and whimsy describes the space. But not only is the decor phenomenal to look at, the intentional comforting touches in the space accentuates it. I appreciate the attention to detail for families with small children, like stools on both sides of the counter bar, the large farm style dining table, and a cozy space with toys in one of the bedrooms and a rocking chair that is child size. The beds and linens were clean and super comfortable for sleeping. There was plenty of space and we could have included more if it were necessary. Convenience, cleanliness, and comfort were the necessities, caring, consideration and charm were icing on the cake. I do not personally know Heather or her brother who helps create their spaces, but correspondence was easy through the app or email, and I have the opinion that if I had a need she would have done what it would take to respond to it. Thanks Heather, We will be back.

Stayed Nov 1, 2024We loved our stay at this cute themed home! Despite booking it two days before we went, we arrived and it was clean and felt like home. It was very reasonably priced and allowed us to bring our dog, a reactive ACD, and he was able to run to his heart’s content in the yard! This property was a blessing and we will be back.

Stayed May 1, 2024We have stayed at another VRBO of Heather’s in past years and Heather is always very accommodating. Our pups enjoyed running in the backyard while we enjoyed the fire pit in the evening. We would have preferred an access to the backyard from the inside of the house. To enter the backyard you have to walk around and enter the gate from the side yard. It makes late night potty breaks with the dogs very inconvenient. It would be a great improvement to put a door where the window is in the dining room for easy access to the backyard. The beds are always very comfortable at both places we have rented from Heather. A microwave would be a great addition to this rental. Thank you very much Heather for all of your assistance during our stay at your Depot Cottage.
