Smithy cottage and forge are Grade 2. The forge is one of only two remaining in the UK in its original state. An oil painting of the internal by H.J..Dobson is in the US, a photocopy exists in the cottage. The cottage is very comfortable with an Aga cooker which is on throughout the year and provides a comfortable warmth. Underfloor heating is installed in the corridor leading from the kitchen to the bathroom, and in the bathroom itself.. The corridor houses a built in shower cubicle, and the pretty bathroom which is separate, has a jacuzzi bath for two. The Master bedroom downstairs has a queen size four poster bed and a door leading out into the garden. The kitchen has a lovely feel with grey units and traditional tile flooring. The sitting room has TV, DVD and CD together with Wifi, also a wood burning stove and night storage heating. The sitting room is traditionally furnished and has a large collection of books and children's games. Up stairs there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and cloakroom style lavatory and basin and the other bedroom has twin beds.

The pretty garden sits in 6 acres of grounds, and because the cottage is south facing
provides an ideal place to sit outside and dine, whilst enjoying the spectacular views.. (table and chairs are provided). The village of Camserney provides some wonderful walks to the waterfalls and on to Loch farleyer. Close by is the small town of Aberfeldy which has many family attractions,, including a leisure centre, distillery, art deco cinema, archery, shopping and restaurants. Castle Menzies is next door and in the opposite direction is Fortingall where the yew tree in the churchyard is reputedly 3000 yrs old and where Pontius Pilate is said to have been born. Further on, is Glen Lyon , the boating and fishing village of Kenmore on the River Tay.. Camserney is about 90 minutes from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports and a central point of Scotland.- ideal for further exploration..

Beautiful property with loads of character, quiet and nestled in a lovely setting. Our kids loved playing outside and exploring, the four poster bed felt special.

House was excellent but description of garden and surroundings including the “spectacular views” was totally misrepresented. The garden and surroundings would be better described as an “overgrown wilderness.” The main website page showing the views of the garden and immediate surroundings are extremely misleading and bear no resemblance to the reality,

For ourselves, this was a perfect place to get away, totally private and extremely quiet. It's about 200m up a single track lane so you have to hope nobody is coming in the opposite when arriving or leaving. The garden in front of the cottage is totally enclosed so you cannot see the lane. The cottage is not large, but is very cosy and is ideally equipped. The Aga takes a bit of getting used to but there is also a small 2 ring electric hob if you do struggle. The Jacuzzi bath is a luxury, especially after a long walk. One thing to be aware of is that at night the area is in total darkness, so unless you put a light on you cannot see anything so a middle of the night toilet visit means feeling your way around trying not to bump into anything. The nearest town of Aberfeldy about 5-10 minutes drive, has everything you require including a nice café serving coffee and cakes. If you enjoy walking there are plenty of walks in the area, including Dull Forrest which you can do from the cottage door. For a more challenging walk Schiehallion is about 20-25 minutes drive away. Will deninitely try to return again next year.

We really enjoyed our stay at Smithy cottage. We had very hot weather and found the cottage quite warm because we couldn’t turn the aga off-I’m sure most of the year this isn’t a problem!! It’s a perfect spot for exploring the local area, few minutes drive from Aberfeldy but in a very quiet spot. The garden was quite overgrown meaning our kids aged 9 and 4 couldn’t really explore as there were lots of nettles/thistles. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need making it a real home from home. Would happily return for another stay.
