If you feel you would like to travel back in time to stay in a medieval fortified hilltop village, then this 15th century property is ideal for a couple with a dog or small child. It has been sensitively renovated yet has the modern conveniences necessary for life today. Once the day trippers have gone home, there is perfect peace and silence in Flavigny, as cars have to be left outside the city walls. There is a rich cultural heritage in Burgundy, as well as traditional cuisine to delight the palate. Madame Balthazar was extremely helpful and courteous in explaining everything we needed to know about planning our visit, even organising the vet appointment for our dog.

My family of 4 stayed in this apartment/house in the middle of summer 2023, and had a lovely time. The house was neat and clean, and had everything we needed - normally previous guests leave behind a little oil and salt, pepper etc. (we normally rely on this and always leave things in return), however we weren't so lucky this time! The bed in the master bedroom was comfortable, but my kids had a bit of trouble sleeping in the guest bedroom. As expected the house is old and creaky and this is part of its charm. We loved the town, and the townsfolk were generally very polite, although I wonder how much they like having tourists in their community. The local sweet shop is an absolute treasure, and is alone worth a visit to the town. So to are the night time walks of the town, and the time spent cat spotting each evening. There is a small local grocery store for local essentials, a bakery with excellent bread - but in these small towns, the opening hours can be erratic so it is likely you'll need to make the 10 minute drive to the nearest town to stock up on supplies. Don't count on the local restaurant and bar to be open either. It's not very clear in the description, but you will be charged for linen and towels - for us, it was 70 euro. You may also be charged for electricity if you're staying in winter. We loved our stay, but some of the communications could be better translated (or not at all; which may actually be easier to read).

We had a lovely long weekend in Flavigny - we used the cozy home as our base to explore the surrounding area - from Museo de Alesia to Fontenay Abbey, the Chateau de Bussy-Rabutin, and cafes and crepes in Semur-en-Auxios. The kitchen was well-equipped and we were able to cook at home each evening after walking and exploring all day.

We had a lovely stay in la Maison de Pierre! It was great to stay in such a wonderful old house. Lots of period features and well-renovated kitchen and bathroom. We were staying as a family of four (mum, dad, toddler and baby) - there was just about enough space for us all. Flavigny is a beautiful village and we enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. Parking at the edge of the village was no problem. Thanks!!
