Area Amenities:
The Tenants Harbor General Store, is open daily, specializing in morning coffee and pastries, corn, blueberries, native lobsters, fresh-cut meats, firewood, and all grocery supplies. It is only a 10-minute walk, or bring your bike for riding the winding roads for the scenic ocean and island views. This is a pleasantly old and proud Maine community with its own library, school, and fire/rescue department. Knox County Sheriff's Office provides policing services. One-third of all Maine lobsters come from this county, named for General Henry Knox, George Washington's chief artillery officer in the Revolutionary War of 1776. You can learn about him on the peninsula, as well as enjoy programs offered all seasons at Montpelier, the Knox Mansion Museum, located just another few minutes in the nearby coastal town of Thomaston.
Heading another 10 minutes down the St. George peninsula is Port Clyde, another fishing village. You will enjoy beautiful ocean views while enjoying an incredible meal on the wharf and delicious ice cream for dessert from the local ice cream shop. In the heart of Port Clyde, you will find adventure waiting for you. Whether it's visiting a local art gallery, enjoying a day on the ocean with the Wyeth by Water Lobster Boat tours, or the Monhegan Island ferry adventures to see Maine seabirds, including puffins and American bald eagles, spending the day at the local Drift-Inn beach or a picnic at Marshall Point Lighthouse; St. George has something for everyone.
Here are some things you should know about visiting Maine:
Cell phones: Although coverage is getting better, there are some places where cell phones don't have good reception. Chances are you will have service, but just in case, make sure you leave the number of the house you are renting with those who may need to get in touch with you. Coverage with AT&T can be spotty in many areas of Maine.
Weather: If you have heard it once, you've heard it a hundred times: if you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute. It can be hot in Rockland and cool in Port Clyde so make sure to pack a variety of clothes — from a bathing suit for hot days to a sweater for cool evenings. Check out the current local weather at www.weather.com.
Bugs: A lot of people ask us if we have mosquitoes...we sure do. But they aren't huge and they don't ruin a vacation. Bring some repellent, or pick some up at the local general stores and you will be fine; usually, you won't even notice them.
Dogs: We love dogs around here, but each town has its own rules about pets. Make sure to look for signs stating if dogs are allowed and always have them on a leash. If they leave behind anything, please pick it up, it's not a fun surprise when you are exploring the beautiful shoreline. You can also be fined for not picking up after your four-legged friend.
Unwanted animals: You probably have them too, but raccoons and skunks can make you regret last night's lobster dinner. No one wants to pick up old, smelly shells that have been cast out onto the lawn by these cute, but curious and disastrously messy, little guys. So please don't put off placing the trash in the secure trashcans provided.
Water: Moonlight Cottage is not on public water supply. It has a well, with a water filtration system, and is tested regularly once a year.
Moonlight Cottage is a Saturday to Saturday rental year-round! This home comfortably sleeps 4 people/ max 2 adults.
As always the best!
The property was exactly as described, very clean, well stocked and had great linens! The view and property were the perfect restorative retreat for our family. We'll definitely be booking again next year and giving referrals to family and friends.
Property was sparkling clean and a very welcoming retreat. It was delightful to watch the boats coming and going, beautiful sunrises and moonrises over the harbor. Lovely quiet spot for rest and relaxation.
The location was nearly perfect and the cabin was nicely furnished and included all that was needed for a wonderful vacation. Thank you
This is a small but well furnished cottage in a beautiful setting right on the water. Our only complaint was strangely dim lighting in the kitchen. Otherwise wonderful.
I loved this spot with its charming cottage overlooking the water. Peaceful with terrific views from all points - patio, yard and from inside the house. The interior of the cottage is small but cozy. There’s a nice size w/d - you can do as much laundry as you care to. It can get quite warm inside the house at peak sun times even with the windows open - I ended up lowering the shades for a period during the day. Veronika was generous and responsive. My sole comment is the mattress in the primary bedroom has prominent springs and is depressed in the middle, less than restful and would benefit from an upgrade. Regardless, I confirmed a second stay later in the summer and look forward to returning.
The cottage is well-kitted, with everything you need, and then some. High quality kitchen essentials, nice bedding, wood burning fireplace. A true test of a place is how is it when the weather doesn’t cooperate? That was my week: fogged in and lots of rain. I was comfortable, though, and cozy and dry. I saw the harbor briefly and could imagine how much more amazing this rental could be had I been able to get out on the beach and in the water.
Very nice property. Great location and host was very responsive.
We had a lovely week in this small Maine coastal fishing village. Classic cottage comforts with the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets viewed from the deck rocking chairs overlooking the harbor. Couldn't have been more perfect.
We love the Moonlight Cottage this was our 4th time staying there, and we will be back.
We loved the Moonlight Cottage! The view from the windows/deck were stunning and it was fun to see the Lobster boats heading off every morning. We have a black lab who loved exploring the yard and the beach. The cottage is well equipped with every thing you need. It was a good size for two people. There is not alot of privacy in the cabin (very private around the property) so perfect for a couple and 1-2 small children but I would have found it cramped with more than 2 adults. Overall a wonderful time....restful and relaxing. and a great area to explore. Will definitely return!
Moonlight cottage lived up to it's name as there was a full moon for the first few nights and perfect weather to watch the moon rise. We appreciate the attention to details and the well equipped kitchen. Nothing like having your morning coffee by the harbor. Already booked for next year.
This home was very well represented as far as pictures and amenities. I was surprised by the square footage, being smaller than I thought. We had a great time and only was home for dinner and sleeping so not a huge disappointment. Would love to come back and enjoy a week in the winter. I'm sure its beautiful.
The property was even better than we expected and perfect for our family of three. The setting was beautiful and the private waterfront was priceless. Very responsive and thoughtful property manager. Looking forward to returning.
We loved our stay. The place was magical and all went smoothly. Thank you!
It was more than we expected. The communication with the manager Veronika was terrific. Check-in was super easy, and Veronika texted us that the house was ready earlier for us than the Check-in time. The view we woke up and went to bed with was fantastic! The house is equipped with everything necessary to have a good time without any worries! We enjoyed the fireplace during the rainy nights and had a lovely going away gathering around the outdoor fire pit with a glass of champagne the last night. Thank you, Tenant Harbor and Veronika, for having us!!!
We spent a week at Moonlight Cottage. Every day we would look around inside and out and say, perfect We had coffee in the rocking chairs, paddled all day to islands we could hike on, dinner at the table on the deck and ended our days at the firepit. Rested and so greatful for our stay, we left promising we would return next year.
This is a wonderful cottage with exceptional views. The internet is a little weak. The master mattress is a little saggy in the middle, and could ise an upgrade. The cottage is very well appointed and I would recommend it to friends and family.
This is the perfect place to hang your Tilley if you want a truly authentic Maine experience. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable time away. We walked to local restaurants and enjoyed the Fats’s catch. The fire pit was the perfect way to wrap up the day after venturing to nearby towns and villages. The location is stellar! Thank you to Veronika who was quick to respond if we needed anything! We will be back!
This cottage was perfect for the 2 of us and made for a perfect relaxing week.
Location on the coast is amazing with spectacular views out the front windows. Cottage is incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen. We loved the outdoor fire pit and indoor fireplace on chilly days and nights. As people note, there is a working lobster dock next door, but of the five days we were there, it was only noisy early once. As others also note, the bedroom walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, so there's limited (sound) privacy between the two rooms. But the location and the impeccable condition of the cottage more than make up for those shortcomings.
This is a beautiful place to stay, very well set up and comfortable. We didn't want for anything - the kitchen had every possible cooking implement we could need, the beds were comfortable and clean, and there were even plenty of board games for rainy afternoons. Having a little piece of the Maine shore right outside our front door was the best part. It made for a lovely place to sit out and have dinner every night, coffee every morning, and really relax into the place. Thank you for a lovely time - we would definitely return!
