Town: Weymouth is a great place to visit any time of the year because of the wide range of activities and attractions available. All sorts of watersports can be enjoyed on the beautiful golden sand beaches, and regular fishing trips leave from the harbour, which is both picturesque and lively. hort drive away is Portland Harbour and the rugged Isle of Portland, which is connected to Weymouth by the dramatic Chesil Beach. Take a trip to nearby Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens or to Dorchester, the inspiration for Casterbridge in Thomas Hardy's novels. Both are located along the scenic coastal road. You could also just go to West Bay; the scenery along the Dorset Heritage Coast is breath-taking.
