The land of Sunshine - fantastic ocean views, peaceful, romantic getaway

We enjoyed staying here. It’s very simple and was a great value. Was concerned about not having A/C but being right off the ocean, there was always a breeze to keep it comfortable. The view from the deck is very nice for enjoying coffee in the morning. There is a small hill you have to go up; wasn’t an issue at all for us. There is a small town very close with a few restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cottage separate from the owners house but on the same lot. Great views of the ocean and sunrise. Well equipped kitchenette for self-catering as there are not many restaurants near by, however there is a grocery store in the next town over. Nice to hear the frogs at night, was very soothlng. Morning will bring sounds of cockerels so if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. There is a fairly soft double mattress and a say bed, making this a perfect getaway for a couple.

I loved the landscaping and the views were lovely. The neighborhood was friendly. The chickens were quite loud at times. I would suggest the bed get replaced and the shower head possibly cleaned as it's appearance was more impressive than it's function. Overall a cute place.

So far beautiful view, hosts were kind. I would give more stars if it weren’t for a really bad ant problem. There were ants everywhere, on the ground on the walls, in the bathroom, next to the bed, in the kitchen, on the fridge, on the table, on the chairs, I felt like I could barely enjoy my vacation because of all the ants. It was terrible, too many ants to count. I even got bit on my ankles because of how many ant there were. There was also gecko poop all over the table on the porch outside and on the ground. Beautiful view and stay was alright.

Amazing place to stay! Great view of the ocean, stars, and garden. Loved the indoor/outdoor kitchen and the huge deck. Could see the stars at night. Really enjoyed the leisurely mornings on the deck making breakfast on the grill or outdoor induction burners. Exceeded expectations and would highly recommend!

Great secluded location. Amazing views!

The property was clean and comfortable, very serene and quiet area with beautiful views. The host were readily available for anything we needed yet we’re not intrusive to our relaxation. The area does not have much choices for food or shopping as most stores are closed for most of the day but in 15 minutes you’re in Waimea where you can find anything come prepared to relax and enjoy peacefulness.

Another great stay at this studio cabin. The cabin sits on a small hill. The lanai looks out over the owner’s beautiful yard, in the distance is a pasture with cows and then, the Pacific Ocean. We have seen many barges, a few sailboats and cruise ships during our stays here. Close to Honokaa,

Great place with an awesome view! Good jumping off point to see this part of the island. Peaceful with a beautiful little garden and private patio area.

The hosts were wonderful and the ohana (cabin) had a great location, great ocean view, and was an excellent base to explore the northern half of the big island.

The host was attentive and was communicative. The honest review as a tenured VRBO is quite poor. Host had every opportunity to let us know construction right in front of our main room view was a possibility to let happen. Bed is a disaster for comfort. The only good thing to review about this disaster is what a view! With uncleansed vibe and hillside hopes of disaster!!

Jim was a wonderful host. He welcomed me and my wife and made us feel at home. He even offered his help to answer any questions about the island.We had the entire rental property for ourselves, and everything was as described. Very friendly hosts. Fridge and small cooktop outside on the lanai was different for us, but work well enough. Nice view. Good jumping off point for that part of the island. Amenities were as described and all worked.

Me and my fiancé stayed for 3 nights and this was an amazing place. The view, we were waking up to, was truly magical. There's everything you might need, from refrigerator and cooktop through shower with hot water. Kim is a very attentive and hospitable host. We had no problems whatsoever. I would highly recommend this place to everybody who is looking for some solitude or juat trying to discover less touristy north and north east part of Big Island.

This cottage is a gem tucked in a neighbourhood a mile or so off the Hamakua highway. It's a nice retreat away from big corporate resorts and tourists! The view looks out across a ravine to a peaceful pasture and the sea beyond. We had rain a couple of days but simply drove less than an hour west to a sunny beach at Spencer Park. Fun day trips to Hilo and Hawi*! We arrived late on a Saturday night so Jim and Kim asked ahead if we needed anything and had some requested groceries waiting in the fridge. Sweet! (* go to Gill's Lanai in the town east of Hawi for delicious fish & chips!)

The ocean view while sipping our morning coffee was breathtaking. Jim was incredibly helpful and fun to talk to! We had all the privacy and quiet we needed for a relaxing vacation.

My adult son and I enjoyed the ohana unit’s location, condition and how well it was equipped for our stay. Jim was a gracious host. He welcomed us emphasizing he was available to help with anything we needed. An inside outside concept worked well. A studio for sleeping (2 beds), and a nice bathroom. A lanai for coffee, relaxing, breakfast while taking in the stunning blue water views.

One moment that especially touched us was when we asked if we could pick a banana from the trees for our daughter, who absolutely loves bananas. Not only did they say yes, but the next day, after returning from an excursion, we found that they had lovingly cut and gifted us an entire bunch. It made our day, and we were able to share the delicious fruit with our visiting family—who couldn’t stop raving about how amazing they tasted!The property itself is a little haven. My daughter and I adored spotting geckos and gently “befriending” them with fallen papayas. Their sweet dog was a joy to see around the property, and every sunrise, sunset, and star-filled night felt magical.Even our family from Honoka‘a and Waimea, who came to visit us during our stay, were blown away by the peaceful views and said they wished they could stay with us just to experience that same sense of calm.This place is more than a vacation rental—it’s a peaceful retreat filled with heart, beauty, and the warmth of two genuinely kind hosts. We are beyond grateful for the experience and would return in a heartbeat.

This rental was absolutely the perfect way to start out our Hawaii vacation. The gardens outside were absolutely beautiful and the view of the ocean couldn't be beat! We wish we had more time there to relax on top of all tourist stuff we did. The room was comfortable and matched the listing exactly.There is a short, steep hill that you need to climb to get to the unit (although you probably could have walked around the other house to avoid the hill) so be aware of you have mobility issues...just an FYI...not a complaint.We highly recommend this rental!!

Kim and James’s cottage was the perfect home base for exploring Big Island’s trails and beaches. Waking up to breakfast with an ocean view and the Pacific breeze was a highlight. The place was spotless, nearly insect-free, and stayed cool enough without AC. It’s ideal for two or three people. The kitchen is simple but has everything you need to cook your own meals, and there are plenty of nearby spots with great local food. James welcomed us personally and was always ready to help, which made us feel truly cared for. Kim’s artwork in the house adds a lovely personal touch. We loved the view from the deck and the outdoor kitchen on the deck. The view was amazing as was the sunrise's. We spent our first day just relaxing on the property and cooking at the cottage. Jim and Kim have created a fantastic Hawaiian getaway with lovely art.

Property overlooks the ocean and the wooded area and fields below. The owners are friendly and want to assist how ever they can to make sure the stay is comfortable. I will definitely be booking with them again.

This property was delightful. Our hosts Jim and Kim were friendly and right next door if needed. The little house is neat, tidy and decorated with great bohemian thought and original artwork. The yard is manicured and beautiful. Our favorite part of this stay was the evening concert of animals winding down for the night. We loved sitting at the outdoor kitchen table listening to the world quiet down as we watched the ocean at sunset. We will definitely go back.

The view of the ocean from the lanai is spectacular. We spent many hours just watching wildlife including some dolphinsand the beautiful ocean.

Awesome views, peaceful, quiet and close to our favorite State Park, Waimea, and on the Hamakua Coast. Our Lanai had a great view with two outdoor tables and was covered. Absolutely stunning views of the ocean. The landscape was amazing! Waking up every morning, drinking coffee on the lanai, listening to all kinds of birds and animals. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. A screen door into the home would have been nice to keep bugs from flying inside in the evening.

This is a very nice spot, with a serene view to the ocean over a herd of grazing cattle. The cottage is also unique with most everything you need to make meals and relax. The bath is nice as well with a large shower. The day bed (single) is a firm foam mattress and quite comfortable.. Alas, the double bed is worn and most uncomfortable. I'm sure that the owners have scheduled a replacement of the bed and upgrading it to a queen. We would very definitely stay here again.

We loved this place. It was very quiet and relaxing. It had incredible views of the ocean. We really liked sitting outside on the lanei in the evenings. The property was in a great location and it was just a short drive to some really awesome beaches.
