Castine, Maine
Newly renovated cottage with 4 bedrooms. Two bathrooms and laundry. Living dining areas with bamboo floors. Unique custom furniture. Phone, cable TV, and wireless high speed internet included.
There is a large deck attached to the rear of the house. Half is open for loads of sunshine and half is covered and screened for solid comfort. Early breakfasts or sunset dinners are to be enjoyed in the screened porch. Gas grill is supplied.
Large back yard with fire pit (firewood provided) that backs up to twenty-five acres of Maine woods. A short walk through the woods takes you down to the tidal stream and countless adventures. Down the road and across brings you to Morse's cove, and the Penobscot river. The Webster family ran schooners and fishing boats from here in the late 1800's. The old boat house is now the family cabin.
Castine and the surrounding area is steeped in history. The village is a perfect New England village featuring a working harbor, a restored lighthouse, a natural history museum, the oldest continually running post office in the country, along with countless other attractions.
From fine dining to the best Lobster rolls around, you can find it all in the village. From sailing in the bay to laying on Back Shore Beach, and visiting the many revolutionary forts, you will find plenty to keep you busy.
Mount Desert Island is only an hour away and the beauty of Acadia National Park and the honky-tonk village of Bar Harbor and all the tourist shopping you will ever want.
A little closer -- and in a world all their own -- are Deer Isle and the beautiful village of Stonington. Just off shore is Isle au Haute, and another section of Acadia National Park. It is accessible only by Mail boat twice each day.
The Honeymoon Cottage is a great centrally-located spot to venture from and, just as important, a great place to rest and relax in and around nature!
Come stay with us and enjoy life on the coast of Maine
Liked having the multiple bedrooms & bathrooms, plus the outside porch.
no wild life , thought i would see a deer or bear .
House was super cute and gave us everything we needed! Would definitely recommend.
Clean and comfortable setting in a well appointed house near downtown Castine.
Very clean, good location, and friendly host. We were looking for a comfortable place from which to explore the mid coast of Maine, and this place worked fine. Plenty of beds, a nice deck to relax on, and a well stocked kitchen.
There were 10 of us, 6 adults and 4 children. We had plenty of beds for sleeping, as long as some are willing to share. The living room was big enough, though some of us had to sit in dining room chairs. We were able to sit at the dining room table and the screened in porch to eat. Our group was very large, and we all get along pretty well, so we thought it was comfortable. They had everything we needed for cookware and for preparing our meals. We greatly enjoyed ourselves.
This house was perfect for 3 adults and 4 teenagers. Plenty of room for all of us to be comfortable. Super clean. Close to the Town of Castine, small but quaint and full of history. Only an hour drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia. Paul and Rachel were very responsive and helpful. I’d highly recommend staying here, and will look to book again should we return.
Our family of four enjoyed our stay at the honeymoon cottage in August. The house was very clean and most everything we needed was provided. The outdoor space plus the screen porch were especially lovely. A few things to be aware of: - Plan to do some driving. The adorable town of Castine is about 10 minutes away. There are a few restaurants there but they do tend to be busy and we found one of them was closed to the public for a couple of the nights we were there which limited our options. -The kitchen is well equipped with dishes, glasses, utensils and pots and pans which were of surprising quality for a rental. However there are no staples provided beyond small salt and pepper shakers. So if you plan to do any cooking make sure to stock up on anything you need at the grocery store. -The house sits close to the road. There isn't a lot of traffic but it is noisy when cars or trucks go by and it tends to be busier early in the morning. I assume people not lucky enough to be on vacation are heading to work. -The living area is not as spacious as it appears in the pictures. The couch and chair are comfy and the smart tv is nice. The internet worked quite well! But there wasn't really enough room for two adults and two teenagers to be comfortable together in the space. Luckily (?) our kids were happy with their bedrooms upstairs and spent their down time (we had two very rainy days!) lounging on their beds watching tv or movies on their phones. -There is an air conditioner in the living room window which we did not require the use of, but it was nice to know it was there. Here is my only complaint. The bed in the main floor bedroom is hideously uncomfortable. It managed to somehow be too hard and too soft at the same time. There were two craters in which to sleep and my husband (who really isn't that large) sunk far enough in to the mattress to be bothered by the metal frame of the bed.
This was a great house. It was a quiet area. The location was perfect for us. We saw deer on two different occasions. We were able to do day trips with ease. The house was very clean upon arrival. Even the grill outside was spotless. The owner was very nice and met us there when we arrived. He suggested we visit Stonington because it would not be as busy as some of the area attractions. It was a great spot.
We had a great time in the house and our dog enjoyed playing in the back yard. The house was comfortable and very clean. We would definitely come back and recommend this place .
Great place and great area! Had a real nice time and the place was just as described….it was home away from home!
Our group of six friends wanted a casual spot on the coast for a short get-away to reunite after being apart for two years. The “Cottage” was exactly as advertised. It comfortably accommodated our group of six very (with room to spare) - everyone had their own comfortable bed, there were plenty of bathroom/shower facilities, seating for dining & chatting. The kitchen was modern/well-equipped with every need anticipated. And the cleanliness was impeccable with a truly impressive supply of towels and linens. The location - an easy four miles or so from Castine center - provided privacy along with outdoor and screened seating plus a fire pit and gas grill surrounded by welcoming landscaping.. All of this was enhanced by the genuine friendliness of owner Paul who greeted us promptly and made sure all was in order, and although it was never required, was available 24/7 should any need arise . The Cottage was perfect for our visit and we could not give a stronger recommendation!
Highly recommend this property. Owner communicates well, house is clean and spacious, location is good for activities in Castine and up to Acadia.
This was the perfect place for our family. Close to Castine and a reasonable drive to Acadia. The house was clean and suited our needs. The owner thoughfully left out some made in Maine snacks and beverages. Yummm... Rachel, the caretaker, was a delight to work with. I would not change a thing. I would stay at the Honeymoon Cottage again.
1026 Castine Rd. was the perfect house for our quick weekend get away for my nieces wedding at the Maine Maritime College. The house was VERY clean, updated and had everything we needed for the weekend. Paul our host met us at the house upon arrival and was wonderful, he even had drinks and snacks for us after our long car trip. He also gave us the rundown of some of the local places to eat drink and food shop. The house was even nicer then it showed in the pictures and was very roomy for the five of us. We had plenty of space inside and out. There was a nice deck and plenty of yard space. The house was also very well equipped with everything you needed. If we ever come back to Castine we would definitely stay here again. Thank you Paul and Rachel!
The property was better than had been described in the listing. Paul was a great host and meet us when checking in. The home had everything that we needed including a new BBQ which we were able to use. The WiFi worked well and the kitchen is well stocked with all the equipment we needed, better than most houses I have rented. When I had questions Paul was available and responded quickly. The downstairs bedroom is a little funky to get to because of the vertical clearance but my boys thought it was awesome that they were away from everyone else. There are four bedrooms which was more than enough for my family. The house is a little of the beaten path but I found that everything in Maine is that way. It is an hour from Acadia national park which we enjoyed. The best attraction we went to was fort Knox (not the one in KY) which is only about 25 minutes away. The town of castine also has some reversionary war earth works which are cool to check out and unlike most I have seen you can be on these ones. If I return to this area I will be contacting Paul to see if this property is available again.
This a nice clean house, with very responsive and attentive hosts. They started off by leaving us a little gift basket, of sorts, with all kinds of Maine food and beverage. All of the minor issues we had were responded to quickly by the owners. Can’t say enough about them. The property is secluded, private and well maintained. Good location to see Acadia and other parts of Downeast.
