Waldoboro, Maine
Located on a pristine 83 acre farm on the Medomak River, The Cottage at Tops’l Farm is the perfect spot for a mid-coast Maine getaway. Just minutes from downtown Waldoboro and only an hour's drive from Portland and 20-30 min from Rockland/Camden area, this 2 bedroom, 1 ½ bath house sleeps 5+ and is tastefully decorated and ready for your rest and relaxation.
A wonderful space for couples, solo adventurers, and families.
My friends and I have been coming to Maine every summer for years, and we were looking for an open space all of our own for the holiday weekend. Josh and Sarah were incredibly accommodating and so much fun! They were very communicative and committed to making sure we had a great experience. The cottage was a perfect fit for five adults with a great porch area and plenty of seating. It was pretty hot at a few points (they have fans), so we were thrilled when Sarah suggested a spot down the road for us to jump in the water and cool off. We spent our days playing cornhole in the front yard (plenty of room to bring your own games), kayaking and exploring the local shops, and our nights at the local brewery, out to dinner in Camden, and back at the farm for some stargazing. We all had a great time and would absolutely recommend the farm for anyone looking for an escape from city life!
We stayed here for the night when attending a family wedding in Damariscotta. The owners were very friendly when we arrived. Sarah even helped carry our bags in! While we were there for little more than sleeping, the accommodations came with all the things we needed... especially a good coffee setup to get going the next morning. Our only complaint was the back bedroom bed being a little too hard for our liking. My sil who was with us would have liked a TV, but I thought the free WiFi was plenty sufficient. I'd definitely stay here again, especially for a longer stay.
We had been to Waldoboro last year and loved the area as a point to explore midcoast Maine. This cottage was perfect for our party (my husband, 74-year-old mother, and 10 and 12 year old kids). My only regret is that we only had two nights...the decor was thoughtful, modern and cozy. The cottage itself was immaculate, with comfy beds and linens. We didn't need to bring anything (the coffeemaker was key). We enjoyed the firepit, hammock and badminton, and played board games at night (again, they have thought of everything). When I did contact our hosts, they were gracious, helpful and quick to respond. Highly recommend this as a place to unplug and enjoy each other (though wi-fi was available). Being 5 minutes from Moody's Diner and close to lots of beautiful coastal scenery was a big plus, but we could have been happy stuck at home.
Beautiful little cottage! We enjoyed the cleanliness of it. We really enjoyed visiting with Josh & Sarah. Would love to go back!
I saw the pictures for this sweet cottage and property a couple years ago. It stayed in my memory and this past July I did get to stay here for 4 nights...would have enjoyed more, actually! First the owners: Attentive, personable, and prompt communicators. Though pressed for time, Josh went out of his way to help me with an issue after my computer was invaded by scammers the last night of my stay. Sarah's mother helps keep the cottage A+ for guests and she was friendly, open-hearted, and a delight to have around. The Cottage: I enjoyed the furnishings and atmosphere as much as I imagined that I would. In no way was I disappointed from what I expected after seeing the pictures. Some rooms were an even better surprise since all can't be seen in the pictures. The main bathroom is large, as is the main bedroom. The larger bedroom also has a good size powder room connected to it, which was perfect for night time needs. Plenty of storage and drawer space. The room with the daybed is even better than the picture can show and the screened porch was fabulous. The afternoon sun makes it a fantastic spot to lounge, have a meal. watch the cars to by....mornings also are pleasant out there. Just a sweet spot to be outside without the bugs. The kitchen was a happy place to work- bright and cheery and with enough work space for my needs. Sitting in the living room and using the dining room table...I liked it all! The grounds: I was traveling with my dog and that is why I hoped for some roaming room- something pastoral. Besides the hammock- love that- there is a beautiful long range view at the back of the cottage. There is open space all around the cottage (especially on the side of the cottage where guests enter) for my older dog to roam and sniff (no problem with the road for him, thankfully.) Also the path through the woods to the river is a good trek for exercise and to be in the woods some. The large new yurt and fire pit at the river is very cool and lots of groups will have fun down there. The timing was right- before a large group of guests came to stay- to get to walk over and see the Glamping sites across the road and into the woods. Really creative and fun option. Very impressive how Sarah and Josh are developing Tops'l Farm. I will carry 100% happy memories of my stay and can only hope that the chance will come to visit the cottage again or try out a glamping chalet or tent. All choices are winners in my book!
We stayed at the Cottage at Tops'l Farm for three nights in early July. Sarah was very accommodating and offered to help with anything we needed. The cottage was clean and spacious. It was a nice retreat from our day trips to coastal areas nearby. While there isn't much to do in Waldoboro, the farm offers refreshing walks under the trees and through trails, a hammock, yard games, puzzles, fires in the evenings, and a great place to relax without television. There is WiFi though! Moody's diner just 2 minutes down the road, and we enjoyed checking out the glamping site and impressive new barn. There is a small kitchen perfect for cooking up a country breakfast if you so desire. The only thing we didn't want to attempt was starting the oven - it's a gas oven, so I believe the pilot light just has to be lit. We only used cooktops. There is a coffee pot and coffee provided, and a grocery store is just up the road. We took advantage of the picnic basket, wine opener, and ice bucket provided, and packed a picnic lunch one day. Plenty of towels and linens available. There is no A/C, but there are window fans which keeps the house cool. One thing to note - the queen bed in the larger room has a very firm mattress. It might just be not be broken in yet, but if you have someone in the group who cannot sleep on a firm mattress it would be good to bring a foam topper. It was a delightful stay!
Great location very convenient to grocery store, bakery, local tavern and plenty of restaurants for everything from donuts to pizza to lobster rolls. Kitchen was extremely well-equipped and there were extra linens, books to borrow, board games, toys for kids. No TV but excellent wi-fi service. Well-marked trail leads to the river's edge. Screened-in porch for cocktail hour. Owners very responsive.
We are a family of four - two adults and two small children. The cottage was perfect - it was clean and well appointed, and I loved the rustic chic decor. You can tell that the owners really thought of all the details. There was no shortage of things for us to do outside and inside the cottage. Outside you can explore the farm while inside there are games, toys and books for all ages. The instructions and recommendations left by the owners were detailed and comprehensive. There is a lot to do in the area, and we took advantage of the beach towels, chairs and toys when we went to the local beach. Josh was super responsive and checked in to see how everything was going. The cottage is wonderful, as are the owners.
The Cottage is an impeccable property nestled perfectly along midcoast Maine. Plenty of room for two couples and all the amenities and privacy we wanted with this type of location. We can't say enough about this place - a true treasure at such a reasonable rate. We can't wait to come back!
My friends, kids (ages 2 and 4) and I stayed at this Cottage during Maine's Lobsterfest (August 2016). Our only regret was that our stay was too short! The cottage was well appointed, clean, and impeccably decorated. My kids even found a closet full of children's toys - dinosaurs, cars and games! The owners were welcoming and very responsive (answered questions quickly, recommended wonderful restaurants (PRIMO in Rockland!) Our weekend was a blast! We cannot wait to come back!
