The National Trust for Scotland has done an incredible job with the self-catering cottages at Craigievar Castle. The Steading Cottage was absolutely perfect for our family of four. The cottage was spacious, spotlessly clean, and well-equipped for cooking and all of our needs during our stay. Very comfortable and cozy space. We all loved hiking and strolling the beautiful grounds. After the castle closed to tours (4:00pm-ish), we had the grounds entirely to ourselves (even when the castle was open, it was quiet and not at all busy feeling - the cottage is situated well away from where day visitors are). Lots of birds and wildlife - we even saw a red squirrel in the forest while hiking. From the living room, Steading has a view of the castle as well as the rolling hills of the beautiful countryside. The cottage provided a lovely basecamp for exploring the 'quieter' side of the Cairngorms, visiting Balmoral Castle, and exploring the unique and fascinating recumbent stone circles of northeastern Scotland. Highly recommend Steading Cottage for a restful, historically interesting (tour the castle!), and beautiful stay. It was one of our absolutely favorite experiences while visiting Scotland!

Did not realize that we actually had booked a cottage situated in castle grounds. Cottage was well equipped and clean. Perfect place to relax after cityhotell. Tourists left in the evening and did not bother at all. People working at castle were very helpful. Magnificent place, hope to come again some day.

The cottage is beautiful! It has been beautifully furnished and is so comfortable. The beds are absolutely perfect for a good night’s sleep. It was so special too to take the drive up to the cottage and see the castle in all its beauty. There are only good views from the castle grounds too.We just wish we could have spent longer there!
